Ayurvedic Rituals to Reverse Inflammation Naturally

Understanding Inflammation the Ayurvedic Way

Inflammation is not an enemy. It’s a signal, a whisper from your body that something’s off balance. Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of life, teaches that inflammation arises when pitta dosha (the fire element) burns too fiercely. It shows up as heat in the body, redness in the skin, irritability, or even digestive unrest. Modern life fuels this imbalance — stress, late nights, overwork, spicy food, and too much screen time. You feel it, you know it.

Ayurveda doesn’t fight inflammation. It soothes it. It cools, grounds, and restores harmony through rituals, herbs, and daily habits that turn healing into rhythm.

The Smarter CCF Elixir

The Simple Recipe

Boil cumin, coriander, and fennel seeds together — a teaspoon of each — in about four cups of water. Add a tiny pinch of licorice root. Let it simmer until the water turns golden and aromatic.

The Benefits

This humble blend, known as the CCF tea, supports liver cleansing and helps restore ojas — your body’s vital essence and immunity. Sip it warm throughout the day. It gently reduces low-grade inflammation and keeps your digestion steady. The taste grows on you. It’s slightly sweet, earthy, and surprisingly refreshing.

The Cooling Moon Morning Ritual

How to Practice

Before sunrise, face the east with a bowl of cool water. Look at your reflection quietly for a few seconds. Splash the water over your face and eyes. Feel the freshness. The silence.

Why It Works

This ritual calms pitta, reduces internal heat, and resets morning cortisol. You start the day with clarity instead of chaos. Ancient Ayurvedic texts call this the moon’s blessing — the softening of fire by reflection.

The Three-Point Self-Marma Ritual

The Technique

Massage these three points with warm sesame oil for two minutes daily:

  • Behind the ears — steadies hormones.

  • Under the eyes — releases stored heat.

  • Center of the chest — eases emotional tension.

The Effect

These marma points are gateways where energy stagnates. Touching them with awareness helps move stagnant prana and lowers hidden inflammation. You might notice your breath deepens. The mind feels lighter. Small moments, big changes.

The Madhur Nidra (Sweet Sleep) Ritual

The Practice

Warm a drop of brahmi oil in your palms. Gently apply it to the crown of your head. Take a slow inhale through your nose. Let your exhale fall heavy, unforced.

The Healing

This quiet act signals your system to enter deep repair mode. Brahmi, known as the herb of consciousness, soothes the mind, reduces anxiety, and supports restorative sleep. You wake with less tension, more lightness. Real rest, not just sleep.

Ghee Pulling: The Forgotten Cleanse

The Method

When inflammation runs high, Ayurveda suggests ghee pulling instead of oil pulling. Melt one teaspoon of ghee and swish it in your mouth for about five minutes. Don’t swallow. Spit it out and rinse with warm water.

The Benefits

This practice soothes oral inflammation, reduces acidity, and nourishes the gut lining. The ghee pulls out heat and toxins, leaving your mouth cool and clean. Daily, it adds a quiet strength to digestion and immunity.

Living Ayurveda Every Day

Ayurvedic healing is not about perfection. It’s about rhythm. Tiny, deliberate choices. A sip of warm water instead of cold soda. A pause before sleep. A touch of oil before rushing out. Healing comes from remembering. From noticing.

These rituals are not treatments. They’re gentle invitations to reconnect — with your body, your breath, and the ancient wisdom within you.

I am a Senior Ayurveda Physician with more than 28 years in this field — and trust me, it still surprises me how much there is to learn every single day. Over these years, I’ve had the chance to treat over 1 lakh patients (probably more by now honestly), both through in-person consults and online. Some come in with a mild cough, others with conditions no one’s been able to figure out for years. Each case brings its own rhythm, and that’s where real Ayurveda begins. I still rely deeply on classical tools — *Nadi Pariksha*, *Roga-Rogi Pariksha*, proper *prakriti-vikriti* mapping — not just ticking symptoms into a list. I don’t believe in ready-made cures or generic charts. Diagnosis needs attention. I look at how the disease behaves *inside* that specific person, which doshas are triggering what, and where the imbalance actually started (hint: it’s usually not where the pain is). Over the years I’ve worked with pretty much all age groups and all kinds of health challenges — from digestive upsets & fevers to chronic, autoimmune, hormonal, metabolic and degenerative disorders. Arthritis, diabetes, PCOD, asthma, thyroid... but also things like unexplained fatigue or joint swelling that comes and goes randomly. Many of my patients had already “tried everything else” before they walked into Ayurveda, and watching their systems respond slowly—but surely—is something I don’t take lightly. My line of treatment usually combines herbal formulations (classical ones, not trendy ones), Panchakarma detox when needed, and realistic dietary and lifestyle corrections. Long-term healing needs long-term clarity — not just short bursts of symptom relief. And honestly, I tell patients that too. I also believe patient education isn’t optional. I explain things. Why we’re doing virechana, why the oil changed mid-protocol, why we pause or shift the meds after a few weeks. I want people to feel involved, not confused. Ayurveda works best when the patient is part of the process, not just receiving instructions. Even now I keep learning — through texts, talks, patient follow-ups, sometimes even mistakes that taught me what not to do. And I’m still committed, still fully into it. Because for me, this isn’t just a job. It’s a lifelong responsibility — to restore balance, protect *ojas*, and help each person live in tune with themselves. That’s the real goal.

Ghee pulling is like a gentle embrace for your mouth. Compared to regular oil pulling, it tends to be more soothing if you've got inflammation, since ghee is cooling according to Ayurveda. Long term, it might help balance heat and aid digestion, plus it can leave you with a more balanced, less tense vibe to start the day.
How can I incorporate the Cooling Moon Morning Ritual into my busy mornings?

Incorporating the Cooling Moon Morning Ritual into a busy morning can be simpler than it seems! Just keep a bowl of cool water ready by your sink, take a moment before sunrise, face the east if you can, and splash some on your face. It's a quick way to feel refreshed and grounded without a huge time commitment. You’re not aiming for perfection, just a little calm before the day.
