AT THIS AGE THYROID CYST WITH LONG TERM THYRONORM USE NEEDS A VERY CAREFUL AND GENTLE APPROACH THE FACT THAT THE CYST SIZE HAS DECREASED IS A POSITIVE SIGN AND INDICATES THAT IT IS MANAGEABLE AND NOT A DANGEROUS CONDITION IN MANY CHILDREN SUCH CYSTS CAN STABILIZE OR REDUCE FURTHER WITH PROPER SUPPORT COMPLETE CURE DEPENDS ON THE TYPE OF CYST HORMONE LEVEL CONTROL AND OVERALL GROWTH PHASE SO THE AIM IS STABILIZATION SIZE REDUCTION AND NORMAL DEVELOPMENT RATHER THAN SUDDEN STOP OF MEDICINE THYRONORM SHOULD NEVER BE STOPPED OR CHANGED WITHOUT ENDOCRINOLOGIST GUIDANCE AYURVEDIC SUPPORT CAN BE GIVEN ALONG WITH IT TO HELP THE GLAND FUNCTION BETTER AND PREVENT FUTURE GROWTH

KANCHANAR GUGGUL ONE TABLET TWICE DAILY AFTER FOOD WITH WARM WATER

Hlo,

From an Ayurvedic point of view, a thyroid cyst corresponds mainly to Kapha-dominant Granthi with involvement of Meda dhatu and mild Vata association.

Because: It has been present >2 years Size is reducing No other symptoms 👉 Prognosis is good.

Complete disappearance is possible, but slow, and medication should not be stopped abruptly.

Ayurvedic Understanding (Brief) - Dosha: Kapha ↑ (primary), Vata involvement - Dushya: Rasa, Meda - Srotas: Rasavaha, Medovaha - Agni: Mandagni at tissue level - Nature: Benign Granthi (cystic swelling)

Goal of treatment: Kapha-Meda shaman Granthi lekhana (resolution) Support thyroid function without suppression

Ayurvedic Prescription (Child – 10 years) 1. Kanchanar Guggulu Dose: ½ tablet twice daily Timing: After food Anupana: Warm water Action: Reduces thyroid cyst (Granthi), balances Kapha–Meda

2. Varunadi Kashayam (If Kashayam is too strong, use syrup form) Option A – Kashayam Dose: 5 ml Dilution: Add equal warm water Frequency: Twice daily, before food Option B – Varunadi Syrup Dose: 10 ml Frequency: Twice daily, before food

3. Trikatu Churna (Very mild) Dose: 1 pinch (≈125 mg) Frequency: Once daily, after lunch With: Honey Purpose: Improves tissue Agni, prevents cyst recurrence ⚠️ Avoid if child feels burning or acidity

4. External Application (Optional but helpful) Kanchanar Churna + warm water Apply gently over thyroid area Frequency: 3 times per week Duration: 20 minutes, then wash off

Diet Rules (Mandatory for Results) Avoid: Cold milk at night Curd, cheese, ice cream Bakery & junk food Encourage: Warm home food Vegetables (lauki, tori, pumpkin) Small quantity of cow ghee Duration of Treatment Initial course: 3 months Expected response: Further reduction in cyst size

Review: Thyroid profile every 6 months Do NOT stop Thyronorm without endocrinologist advice

Prognosis ✔ Already shrinking → very good sign ✔ With regular treatment → complete resolution is possible ✔ Child is asymptomatic → favorable outcome

Hello, It is good to know that it is decreasing in size. Is the cyst visible from outside?. If yes please start application of dasahnga lepam churnam mae to a warm paste by mixing with hot water over the cyst(be mindful about the temperature of the paste)

If your child is over 18 years the following will help the child- 1. Kanchanara guggulu DS (AVN) 1-----0----1 for 120 days. 2. Varanadi kashayam 20ml----0-----20ml by adding 80 ml of boiled cooled water along with medicine no.1 for 120 days.

Take care, Kind regards.

Hello Thanks for clearly laying out your child’s situation. I totally get how worrying it is when your 10-year-old has a thyroid cyst and has been on Thyronorm for three years. The good news is the cyst has shrunk, and there are no symptoms, which is a great sign.

YOUR CONCERN

Age: 10 years Problem: Thyroid cyst How long: Over 2 years Meds: Thyronorm 100 mcg (for 3 years) Cyst changed: Got smaller Other issues: None Tried before: Homeopathy

AYURVEDIC UNDERSTANDING

Ayurveda generally links thyroid cysts to too much Kapha, affecting Meda (fat tissue) and Rasa (plasma), plus a slight Agni (digestive fire) problem.

We call this a:

* Kapha-pradhana Granthi (a cystic swelling) * It’s like a mild form of Galaganda (goiter), but in your child’s case, it’s not getting worse and is actually getting better.

SIGNS IN YOUR CHILD

–Cyst shrinking:Good sign Kapha is already getting under control. –No pain or pressure: Means it’s not serious and is stable. –Long-term Thyronorm: Hormone levels are probably steady.

IMPORTANT

With kids, many thyroid cysts aren’t serious and can be managed. Surgery isn’t always needed, especially when the cyst is getting smaller and not causing any problems.

CAN IT BE FIXED?

Yes, it’s manageable and can even get better, depending on:

* Steady hormone levels * Checking on it regularly * Helping thyroid work naturally * Staying away from things that make Kapha worse.

warning: Don’t stop Thyronorm without talking to a doctor. Ayurveda helps and supports, but it’s not a quick swap for medicine, especially for kids

TREATMENT GOAL

* Stop more cysts from forming. * Slowly help the thyroid tissue work normally. * Balance Kapha and Meda. * Gently boost metabolism (Agni). * Help with good growth and immunity.

AYURVEDIC PLAN OF TREATMENT

INTERNAL MEDICATION

1.Kanchanar Guggulu 1-0-1 after food Helps shrink cysts and balances Kapha and gland swelling.

2 Guduchi Satva 1 tsp with warm water once a day (Boosts immunity and balances Pitta without making Kapha worse.)

3.Hamsapapadai kashaya 10ml-0-10ml with equal water after food ( helps shrinking cyst)

DIET PLAN

✅INCLUDE

* Fresh, light meals * Moong dal, rice, chapati * Fruits in season * Veggies like bottle gourd, ridge gourd, carrot * A little cow’s ghee

❌AVOID

* Lots of junk food * Bakery stuff, chips, packaged snacks * Cold drinks, ice cream * Too much cheese, pizza * Lots of sweets

Daily habits:

* Enough sleep * Playing outside often * Limit screen time * Gentle yoga (with a teacher): * Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana) * Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana) * Keep stress low (really helps thyroid)

Checking up and tests:

Thyroid tests (TSH, T3, T4): Every 6 months. Neck Ultrasound Once a year. Keep taking Thyronorm as your specialist says.

If things stay steady, the Thyronorm dose might change later, but only with a doctor’s OK.

Your child is stable, getting better, and doing well. With careful checks, Ayurvedic support, good food, and seeing the specialist regularly, the future looks good.

Please don’t try to treat it yourself or stop Thyronorm suddenly.

Warm Regards Dr. Snehal Vidhate

Can you mention size of cyst, TSH, T3,T4 result?

As there is decrease in size, it’s a positive outcome.

Thyroid cysts are usually non cancerous. Your child is not having any other symptoms so follow up with ultrasound (6-12 month gap).

By knowing thyroid hormone level we can decide the dose of medicine

Thank you

HELLO,

Your child has a thyroid cyst, which is small fluid filled lump in the thyroid gland -the thyroid is a gland in the neck that controls growth , metabolism and energy levels -A cyst is usually benign (not cancer) in children , especially if it’s stable or reducing in size -Being on Thyronorm (levothyroxine) for 3 years indicate the thyroid is slightly underachieve (hypothyroidism ) and the medication helps the body function normally. -No other symptoms (fatigue , weight gain, constipation, slow growth) are a good sign- the child is otherwise healthy

KEY POINTS FOR PARENTS -Most thyroid cysts in children do not turn cancerous -monitoring and gentle treatment are usually enough -homeopathy or other treatments may help but must be supplemented with supervision

TREATMENT GOALS -Normalize thyroid function via thyronorm -reduce or stabilize cyst size -support metabolism and growth -balance body energies -strengthen immunity and prevent reucrrence

INTERNAL MEDICATIONS

1) KANCHANAR GUGGULU= 1 tab twice daily in children for 3 months =reduces nodules and cysts, detoxifies lymph and thyroid area, reduces kapha

2) VARUNADI KASHAYA= 20ml with warm water twice daily before meals =supports thyroid tissue, improves lymphatic drainage

3) TRIKATU CHURNA= 1/8 tsp with warm ghee before meals =stimulates metabolism, improves digestion

EXTERNAL TREATMENT

1) OIL MASSAGGE= KSHEERBALA OIL -neck and upper back gentle, avoid direct cyst pressure for 3-4 times/week =improves circulation, balances kapha relaxes muscles

2) STEAM THERAPY -mild steam with lukewarm water =helps reduce stagnation and detoxifies tissues

LIFESTYLE CHANGES -ensure qadequate sleep and routine -encourage outdoor play and light exercise -keep the neck warm, especially in cold weather -avoid daytime sleeping and sedentary habits

YOGA ASANAS -bhujangasana= gently stretches neck and upper body -Setu bandhasana= strengthens chest and thyroid region -Suryanamaskar= 5-6 rounds for overall metabolism -Neck stretching exercises= gentle rotations and side bends

PRANAYAM -Anulom Vilom=3-5 minutes -avoid forceful breathing or Long breath holding in children

DIET -warm, freshly cooked meals -green vegetables= bottle gourd, pumpkin, drumstick leaves -lentils= moong dal, massor dal -fruits= apple, papaya, pear -ghee= 1 tsp / day -boiled or warm milk

AVOID -cold foods and drinks -excess curd, cheese or yogurt -bakery items and processed food -excess soy products

Avoid cruciferous vegetables in raw form- cabbage, cauliflower as they can affect thyroid metabolism

HOME REMEDIES -warm sesame oil massage around neck and upper chest -Turmeric milking small amounts to support immunity -Triphala churna= 1/2 tsp in warm water at night to support digestion

DURATION OF TREATMENT -Internal Ayurvedic treatment= 3-6 month minimum -Thyronorm=continue as advised by endocrinologist -Follow up ultrasound = every 6 months

Thyroid cysts in children are mostly benign and often manageable with proper care. Combination of medication, Ayurveda, Yoga , Diet and Lifestyle can stabilize or reduce the cyst. Regular monitoring is key- TSH and ultrasound tests guide adjustments Avoid any aggressive or high dose remedies at home- children are sensitive Ayurveda is supportive; do not stop thyronorm

TAKEAWAY=With proper care, your child can lead to normal, healthy life. Cysts often stabilize or shrink, thyroid function can remain normal, and overall wellbeing improves with gentle Ayurvedic support

DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU

DR. MAITRI ACHARYA
