Seeking Help for Digestive Issues and Breathing Problems - #51733

Good afternoon. I have had problems for a long time with gas formation, pain on the left side of the abdomen, and irregular stool. Also, I cannot take a full breath even though I used techniques for relaxing the diaphragm and visceral techniques. They do not help because the back ribs (the upper part of my back) do not allow a full breath, it feels like some kind of block there. I have also had problems with sleep for a long time. I have been taking antidepressants for a year, but now I am finishing the therapy. During a consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor, they said that I have a Pitta dosha imbalance (vikriti – Pitta-Kapha). I was taking coriander, fennel, and cumin brewed as tea, also aloe with curcumin, adysen, ashwagandha rasayana. I was eating grains and adding psyllium. I cannot say that it became better. I do not know what I should eat now, what to add, and what to exclude. I drink coffee and sometimes it causes pain, but it is difficult for me to stop drinking it completely because with coffee my metabolism works better. Some of my data from the natal chart: I have Pisces rising, the Moon in Aries, the Sun in Cancer, and now I am living in the Moon mahadasha. Please help me understand what the problem might be and find a solution.

Based on your symptoms, your condition appears to be related to Agni imbalance (weak digestion) with Pitta-Kapha aggravation and accumulation of Ama (toxins) in the gastrointestinal system. Long-term stress and irregular digestion can also affect breathing by creating pressure and heaviness in the abdomen and diaphragm area. Your symptoms such as gas formation, left-sided abdominal pain, irregular stool, sleep disturbance and breathing discomfort suggest disturbance of Annavaha and Pranavaha srotas. Dietary Advice Prefer light, warm and easily digestible food such as moong dal khichdi, vegetable soups and cooked vegetables. Avoid spicy, fried, oily, fermented and very cold foods. Reduce coffee intake, as it may aggravate Pitta and cause abdominal pain. If difficult to stop completely, limit it to one small cup per day after food. Avoid heavy food at night and maintain regular meal timings. Ayurvedic Medicines (General guidance) Avipattikar Churna – 1 tsp with warm water at night after meals for digestion and Pitta balance. Hingvastak Churna – ½ tsp with the first bite of food twice daily to reduce gas and improve digestion. Triphala Churna – 1 tsp with warm water at bedtime for bowel regulation. Lifestyle Advice Practice gentle pranayama (Anulom-Vilom and deep breathing) daily. Do light walking after meals to support digestion. Maintain proper sleep routine and try stress-reducing practices such as meditation or yoga. Since your symptoms have been present for more than 6 months, a detailed physical examination by an Ayurvedic physician is recommended for personalized treatment and possible Panchakarma therapy if required.

Thank you! About oily food, doctor recommended me to add ghee and avoid dry food

an Ayurvedic perspective, your symptoms suggest a Pitta-Kapha imbalance with associated Vata disturbance in the digestive system (Agnimandya and Annavaha Srotas dysfunction). Long-standing gas formation, irregular stools, left abdominal pain, and difficulty taking a deep breath often indicate Ama accumulation and Vata obstruction in the colon and diaphragm region. The fact that spicy foods aggravate symptoms and coffee sometimes causes pain further supports a Pitta aggravation with intestinal sensitivity, which can resemble Grahani-type digestive disturbance (similar to IBS in modern medicine). Ayurvedic says: Weak digestive fire (Mandagni) Accumulation of Ama (undigested toxins) Vata obstruction in the colon and diaphragm Secondary Pitta irritation of the gut Stress affecting the gut–mind axis Take Warm, freshly cooked foods Rice, moong dal khichdi Steamed vegetables (zucchini, bottle gourd, pumpkin) Small amount of ghee Cumin, coriander, fennel in cooking Warm water or cumin-fennel tea Avoid Spicy and very acidic foods Coffee (reduce gradually, not abruptly) Fried food,sExcess raw salads Fermented foods if they cause gas Late-night eating Ayurvedic Medicines Avipattikar tab 1-0-1– for Pitta and digestion Hingvashtak tab 1-0-1 for gas and Vata regulation Triphala at night -0-0-2 to regulate bowel movement Brahmi 2-0-2 for stress and sleep support Lifestyle Eat meals at regular timings Avoid overeating Practice gentle pranayama (Anulom Vilom, diaphragmatic breathing) Light walking after meals Maintain good sleep routine About Coffee Since coffee stimulates metabolism for you 1 small cup in the morning

Hello, Your symptoms- gas, left abdominal pain, irregular stool, and difficulty taking a deep breath may be related to Irritable Bowel Syndrome or what we call as grahni in ayurveds. As for the breathing difficulty sometimes there is gas trapping near the diaphragm (splenic flexure), which makes it painful and difficult to breath. Stress and past antidepressant use can affect the gut–brain axis. As an ayurveda physician, i would suggests Vata dosha also aggrevated along with Pitta-Kapha imbalance. As a surgeon, i would like to first ask you have you done any endoscopy tese before? Or any ultrasound? Till then, take- Avipattikar churna 3 gm twice a day before food with warm water Hingwastak churna 2 gm twice a day with 1/2tsp warm ghee with first bite of roti Kumaryasava 15 ml twice a day with half cup water after meal Brahmi vati 2 tablet twice a day with warm water. As for coffee it is better to avoid it, you can start by reducing it to half cup then slowing giving it up as it aggrevated the condition. Eat warm, simple foods (rice, moong dal, cooked vegetables) and avoid spicy foods, raw salads, and excess coffee. Continue cumin-fennel-coriander tea, if you have issue with constipation consider Triphala at night for bowel regulation. Gentle breathing, stretching, reguarly.

If you haven’t done so yet, please go for a USG abdomen, we need to understand the cause if we want a complete solution. Also, when you say irregular bowel, do you mean constipation, feeling of bowel not emptied fully, sticky stools or need to exert pressure during bowel movement, or intermittent episodes of constipation and loose motions? Is there any blood, mucus or watery discharge with the stool? Also, do you have any history of piles? How is your appetite in general? Is it really good, reduced or irregular? What’s your normal diet like? regularly eaten foods? What medications are you currently taking? Do you sleep well? I would like answers to all these questions before advising you on a treatment plan.

Coffee is almost certainly worsening everything, it strongly aggravates Pitta, dries Vata, weakens Agni, increases gas & left-side colon spasms and tightens the upper back/ribs. Stopping coffee is important if you want real progress. Start today = 1. Diet – most important change right now Main meals: thin moong khichdi + 1–1½ tsp ghee, well-cooked lauki/pumpkin/carrot/zucchini, ripe banana or pomegranate Spices: only roasted cumin, coriander, fennel, pinch hing, rock salt Avoid completely (at least 6–8 weeks): coffee (replace with very weak tulsi/ginger tea if needed), spicy food, garlic/onion raw, tomato, citrus, fermented, raw salads after 4 pm, beans (except moong), excessive fiber/psyllium right now Small frequent meals, dinner by 6:30–7 pm Sip warm fennel + cumin water (½ tsp each boiled) all day (2–2.5 L) 2. Medicines Hingwashtak Churna – ½ tsp after lunch & dinner with warm water Avipattikar Churna – 3 gm bedtime with warm water Bilvadi Lehyam – 1 tsp after lunch & dinner Shatavari powder – 3 gm night with warm water or almond milk 3. For upper back/rib block & restricted breathing Warm sesame oil gentle massage on upper back & ribs (clockwise around diaphragm area) 5–10 min nightly followed by hot water bag 10 min 2–3 min legs-up-the-wall pose (Viparita Karani) before bed (releases diaphragm & upper back tension) Sheetali pranayama – 5–10 rounds morning (cools Pitta & opens breathing) 4. Sleep & stress No food/fluids after 8 pm Warm golden milk (almond milk + pinch nutmeg/jaiphal) 1 h before bed 10 min Bhramari pranayama before sleep (very calming for Pitta mind) Regards Dr Gursimran Jeet Singh MD Panchakarma

Hello, Main issue= disturbed digestion-> gas, irregular stools Dosha= pitta (heat, acidity) + kapha(heaviness, blockages) Secondary= vata blockage in chest/back-> restricted breathing, tight ribs Diet most important -warm, light, easy to digest food -rice, moong dal khichdi, steamed vegetables -cooked foods > raw foods -small amount of ghee improves digestion -herbal teas= cumin + fennel + coriander continue but lighter Avoid/reduce -coffee major trigger for pitta + gas -. taper, dont stop suddenly -spicy, fried, sour foods -raw salads, cold drinks -excess grains + psyllium can worsen gas if digestion is weak Simple remedies 1) For gas and digestion -Before meals= small piece of fresh ginger + pinch of salt -After meals= chew fennel seeds -Night= triphala mild dose 1 tsp with warm water at bedtime for bowel regularity 2) For pitta balance -aloe vera continue but in small dose -add amlaa 1 tsp with warm water in morning 3) For kapha blockage (chest/back) -warm water throughout the day -dry ginger tea (very mild, not strong) Body and breathing (very key for you) Your breathing issue is likely musculoskeletal + vata blockage not just diaphragm Do daily -gentle thoracic stretches -cat cow yoga -slow breathing = inhale 4 sec-> exhale 6 sec (dont force deep breath) Avoid aggressive breathing techniques- they can worsen tension Sleep support -stop screens 1 hour before bed -warm milk with a pinch of nutmeg at night -since you’re tapering antidepressants-> nervous system needs calming, to stimulation Too many herbs at once may overload digestion Keep it simple + consistent, not complex Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you
