According to ayurveda dandruff is a kapha vata imbalance. You mentioned about washing hair less than once a week. This is a major unhygienic practice for the growth of fungus. Scalp need regular cleansing. Wash atleast 3 times per week. Regular cleaning is the best choice. You can use mild shampoo or otherwise shikakai, neem based one. Neem can very effectively help to reduce dandruff. If you get fresh neem leaves, make it as a paste and apply over the head as hair mask for 20 minutes ( if you haven’t any allergy ) and wash it off. Do twice per week. Itchiness and fungal growth will reduce by 2-3 weeks 1. Triphala tablet 1-0-1 after food. It will helps to nourish the hair and cleanse overall body. Twice a week you can apply durvadi kera tailam ( 2 weeks) apply for 15 minutes and wash it off with mild shampoo. Include more fruits and leafy vegetables in diet Avoid excess sugar, oily foods. Take care, Dr. Shaniba
This type of heavy, “pluckable” dandruff that comes off in pieces is often more than just simple dry scalp; in Ayurveda, it is classified as Darunaka. The itching and subsequent hair fall suggest a combination of Kapha (the thick, oily flakes) and Vata (the dryness and hair root weakness). When dandruff is severe enough to distract you from your work, it requires a “strike-from-both-sides” approach: clearing the fungal/bacterial load externally while cooling the internal “heat” that fuels scalp inflammation. External Treatment (The Most Critical Step) 1. Winsoria Oil This is a specialized formulation for skin and scalp conditions like psoriasis and severe dandruff. It helps soften the thick flakes so they can be washed away without damaging the hair follicles. Usage: Apply to the scalp 30–60 minutes before washing. Massage gently to loosen the “pieces” of dandruff. 2. Chemparuthyadi Keratailam A coconut oil-based formula that is traditionally used for scalp itchiness and to promote hair growth. Usage: Use this as your regular hair oil 2–3 times a week once the initial heavy flaking subsides. Internal Support 3. Khadirarishtam The herb Khadira is the best Ayurvedic “Kushtaghna” (skin-cleansing) remedy. It purifies the blood and reduces the internal dampness that allows dandruff to thrive. Dose: 20 ml with 20 ml lukewarm water, twice daily after meals. 4. Narasimha Rasayanam To address the heavy hair fall and help you regain hair density. This is a medicated jam/paste that acts as a powerful “Rasayana” (rejuvenator). Dose: 1 teaspoon at bedtime followed by a cup of warm milk. Immediate Scalp Relief Strategy The “Anti-Itch” Wash Instead of harsh chemical shampoos which can further irritate an itchy scalp, use Arishtaka (Reetha) or a mild herbal hair wash powder. Pro Tip: Mix a small amount of Lemon juice with a bowl of Thick Curd (Yogurt). Apply this to the scalp for 15 minutes before washing. The lactic acid helps dissolve the “glue” holding those dandruff pieces together. Scalp Hygiene Keep it Dry: Never tie your hair while it is damp. Fungi thrive in moisture. Personal Comb: Use a separate comb and wash it with hot water and soap after every use to prevent re-infecting the scalp. Addressing the “Concentration” Issue The itching and hair fall are likely spiking your Vata, leading to the lack of focus you mentioned. Shiro-Abhyanga: Even a 2-minute gentle scalp massage at night (without oil if you prefer) can help ground your nervous system and improve sleep, which in turn reduces the stress-hairfall cycle.
