Hello, don’t worry about your constipation. Ayurveda has solution for you. Managing chronic constipation where bowel movements occur only every 5 to 7 days suggests a significant imbalance in the digestive system, often referred to in Ayurveda as Vibandha. When the condition reaches this stage, the colon (the seat of Vata) has likely become excessively dry and “cold,” leading to a loss of natural peristaltic movement. In Ayurveda, this is primarily a Vata-dominant disorder. The Apana Vayu (the downward-moving energy responsible for elimination) becomes blocked or moves upward (Udavarta). Constant reliance on osmotic laxatives like Miralax can sometimes further “dry out” the system from an Ayurvedic standpoint, making the gut more sluggish over time. Treatment focuses on Snehana (oleation/lubrication) and Anulomana (restoring the downward flow). I’m prescribeing some medicines, that emphasize high-quality oils and herbs. For chronic cases lasting 5–7 days, a combination of lubrication and mild regular cleansing is usually required. 1. Gandharvahasthadi Castor Oil (Eranda Tailam) This is a classical fortified castor oil. Unlike plain castor oil, this is processed with herbs like Ginger and Barley, making it less “griping” and more effective for chronic Vata blockages. Dose: 15ml to 20ml mixed in a cup of lukewarm water or warm milk. Timing: Take this on an empty stomach early in the morning or at bedtime, depending on your body’s response. 2. Abhayarishtam This is a fermented liquid (Arishta) where the primary ingredient is Abhaya (Haritaki). It is the premier Ayurvedic tonic for the colon. It acts as a “Dravya-Anulomana,” meaning it breaks down the hard stool and pushes it forward naturally. Dose: 25ml mixed with an equal quantity of lukewarm water. Timing: Twice daily, immediately after lunch and dinner. 3. Triphala Spark / Triphala Tablets If the stool is very hard, Triphala helps in “Lekhana” (scraping) the old toxins from the intestinal walls and toning the colon muscles. Dose: 2 tablets with warm water. Timing: Before sleep at night. Internal Oleation: Since your system is likely very dry, start your day with 1 teaspoon of warm A2 Cow’s Ghee on an empty stomach. This lubricates the intestinal lining. Hydration Temperature: Stop taking cold drinks. Drink only warm or “lukewarm” water throughout the day to keep Vata in check. The “Squat” Position: Use a footstool (like a Squatty Potty) to ensure the anorectal angle is straight, which is crucial when the urge is weak.

Hello, Chronic constipation like yours (5-7 days without bowel movement, long duration, dependence on laxatives like miralax) is considered krura Koshta / severe vata imbalance in Ayurveda , often involving apana vata dysfunction and sometimes Ama (toxin buildup) Ayurvedic view -Vata dosha (dry, cold, irregular) becomes aggravated In colon -Colon loses lubrication-> stool becomes dry, hard, infrequent -long term laxative use-> weakens natural bowel reflex -chronicity suggests= poor gut motility, possible gut lining dryness, irregular digestive fire That’s why you go only after forcing with laxatives- body has forgotten natural urge Treatment goals -rebuild natural bowel movement reflux -lubricate intestines -normalize vata -strengthen digestion -reduce dependence on chemical laxatives Internal medications 1)Main bowel regulator -Gandharvahastadi kashaya= 15ml + 45 ml warm water twice daily before meals for 6-8 weeks =best classical medicine for chronic constipation, improves gut motility, reduces vata in colon 2) Mild natural laxative + gut tonic -Avipattikar churna= 1 tsp with warm water at bedtime for 2 months =gentle daily bowel regulator not habit forming like Miralax, improves digestion + relieves acidity 3) Colon lubrication (very important) -Castor oil= 2 tsp with warm milk once or twice weekly at bedtime =deep lubrication of colon, breaks chronic dryness cycle 4) Gut strengthening -Dashmoolarishtam= 15ml + equal water after meals twice daily =restores vata balance, helps long term gut function External therapy (very important but often ignored) 1) Abdominal Oil massage (daily)= dhanwantaram taila -warm oil -massage clockwise around navel for 10-15 min before bath = stimulates bowel movement reflex, reduces vata dryness Yoga and pranayam daily **Best yoga for constipation -pawanmuktasana -malasana -bhujangasana Pranayam -Anulom vilom -kapalbhati mild, not aggressive 15-20 min daily improves gut motility significantly Diet = this will make or break treatment Must include -warm, soft, oily foods -ghee 2 tsp daily -soaked black raisins 10-15 daily -cooked vegetables bottle gourd, spinach -whole grains oats, red rice Avoid -dry foods = biscuits, namkeen, fried snacks -excess tea, coffee -cold foods, fridge items -too much raw salads worsens vata Simple home remedies 1) Night remedy= warm milk + 1 tsp ghee-> daily 2) Morning trigger= 1 glass warm water + few drops lemon + pinch salt 3) Soaked figs= 2-3 soaked overnight-> morning Investigation (important- do not skip) Since it’s > 1 year severe -thyroid profile -blood sugar -colon evaluation -vitamin b12 and D rule out underlying cause like Hypothyroidism or IBS Important -Do not rely daily on Miralax long term -avoid strong purgatives regularly -ayurveda works by restoring natural rhythm takes 4-8 weeks Your condition is treatable, but requires -consistency (very important) -internal + external therapy combination -diet correction (non-negotiable) Expect -week 1-2= softer stool -week 3-4= more regular urge -week 6+= natural bowel movement restoration Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you

●Main causes of constipation • Lack of fiber in the diet • Not drinking enough water • Excessive meat consumption • Cold, stale, and dry food • Vata-dominant nature • Lack of exercise and physical activity • Late-night meals and irregular daily routines Ayurveda states that Vata imbalance = stool imbalance.Side Effects of Constipation Constipation isn’t limited to the stomach. It can cause: • Gas and bloating in the stomach • Headaches • Bad breath Accumulation of toxins (ama) in the body • Skin and mental disturbances Therefore, constipation requires balance, not treatment. ●The Importance of a Vata-Soothing Diet The first step to preventing constipation is a vata-soothing diet. Avoid: Cold food and drinks, salads, dried fruits, excessive pulses and kidney beans, stale food Adopt: Warm, fresh food, well-cooked vegetables, warm water, and a small amount of oil or ghee. ●Triphala Triphala: The Best Ayurvedic Remedy It is the most balanced Ayurvedic treatment for constipation. How to consume: • 1 teaspoon of Triphala • 1 cup of warm water • Soak for 5-10 minutes • Consume at night If you have frequent urination at night, take Triphala in the morning on an empty stomach. ●Why is fiber important? Fiber softens and makes stools more mobile. Include in your diet: • Porridge • Oats Wheat bran • Whole grains • Fresh fruits and vegetables Fiber + water = easier bowel movements. ●Castor Oil (in special circumstances) Method – • Ginger tea • Add 2 teaspoons of castor oil • Consume at night. Do not use regularly as it can be habit-forming. ●Use of Flaxseed At night • 1 teaspoon of flaxseed • Boil in 1 cup of water • Drink with the seeds. This lubricates and speeds up bowel movements. ●Preventing future constipation • Eating regularly Adequate water intake • Light exercise • Fresh, warm food • Reducing stress • A vata-friendly lifestyle

hello thank you for contacting ask ayurveda your are suffering from constipation there is very good medication for treating constipation but i need some answers what is your age , height , weight and your profession as you are taking moderate fiber diet and using laxatives i will recommend you to take panchkarma therapy this will help in detoxification of your body and helps in rejunivation it can be done in any good ayurvedic Centre. but before pachakarma you need to cleanse your gut (digestive system) it has two stages:- 1] deepana therapy :- it reffers to medications that ignite agni , the metabolic fire ( appetitie simulator ) without necessarily digesting ama. 2]pachana therpay :- digestions—it focus on the digestion of ama. deepana and pachana plays a significant role in the treatment of various aliments while enhancing digestive juices ( agni). it governs metabolic processes, digestion and the body`s overall functionality . now panchakarma therapy it’s a therapy in ayurveda for detoxification and rejuvenation. it is used to remove toxins (ama) from the body and to restore balance to the three doshas in our body ( vata , pitta ,kapha) it is divided into three stages 1]purva karma >> snehana karma :- internal and external administration of medicated oil or ghee, internal :- this are ingested over a period of days to lubricate the tissues and cells all over the body . this helps to loosen the toxins and make ready for evacuation. external: massage with medicated oil to whole body to enhance absorbation through the skin and further loosen the malas >> swedana karma:- after snehna to release the mala from the body , inducing sweating from body by steam bath 2]pradhan karma :- >> vamana :- it is the therapy in which a person is induced controlled vomitings using medicated drugs under observation. this helps in removing excess kapha from the gastro intestinal tract and respiratory system. >> virechana:- it is the therapy in which a person is induced to pass controlled multiple stools thorugh medicated drugs under observation. it cleanses the lower gastro intestinal tract, liver and gall bladder. 3]pashat karma :- Medication i will prescribe some medicines you can start it before panchakarma also diet eat high fibre diets drink plenty of water , butter milk , fruits juices drink a glass of milk before bed time avoid sleeping during afternoon avoid eating fried foods , cold foods if you still having constipation then i will advice Ultrasound abdomen and if needed colonoscopy. i am waiting for your reply

The condition you describe above about Chronic constipation is due to vata imbalance in your body which leads to constipation where your stool becomes hard and your colon loses its natural movement 1) Gandharvahasthadi Castor Oil- -15 ml with a cup of warm water morning empty stomach 2) Abhayarishtam-20-ml with equal quantity of warm water before lunch and before dinner 3) Avipathi Choornam- 5- grams with warm water at bed time Vata is dry. Add 1-2 teaspoons of Cow Ghee to every meal. Avoid all cold drinks, salads, and raw foods. Eat only warm, freshly cooked meals. Opt for stewed apples (cooked with a clove), ripe papayas, and soaked black raisins (10-12 per day). Minimize millet, crackers, caffeine, and heavy proteins like Paneer or Rajma until the bowel movement regularizes. If using a Western toilet, use a small stool to elevate your feet. Or use indian toilet Try to sit for a bowel movement at the same time every morning (preferably during the Vata period, before 6:00 AM), even if you don’t feel the urge .

Constipation is cause by imbalance in vata dosha. Heavy, dry, low fibre diet, not drinking enough water, lack of physical activity, stress, ignoring the urge can also cause constipation. Rule out the reason yourself if you are following any of these. Eat foods like banana, papaya, spinach, leaf green veggies, oats etc. 2-3 L of water should be followed. Also, intake warm water after heavy meals, it will help in digestion. Some natural remedies like soaking raisins or figs overnight and intake the water along with the fruit. it will also help in relieving constipation. 1. Triphala choornam 1/2 tsp with ghee at night with sip of warm water after that can also relieve constipation. For the severe condition you can try, 1. Sukhabhedi gulika 1 at a day. By this technique you didn’t get relief, then 1. Abhayarishtam 15ml once daily just after food. (morning) 2. Continue triphala choornam 3. Draksharishtam 15ml once daily after food. (evening) Take care, Dr. Shaniba

Your history suggests severe chronic constipation (likely pakvashaya-gata vata in ayurveda), especially since bowel movement occurs only every 5–7 days and you are dependent on osmotic laxatives like Miralax. this needs a structured, long-term correction rather than repeated laxative use. understanding the condition long duration indicates vata aggravation with dryness in colon irregular bowel despite adequate fluids suggests weak agni and poor gut motility dependence on laxatives can further reduce natural bowel reflex over time management approach regulate bowel habit (most important) fix a daily time (early morning) for bowel attempt, even without urge do not suppress natural urges warm water intake immediately after waking correct agni and gut motility start with mild deepana-pachana support (under guidance) avoid heavy, dry, processed, and cold foods internal medication (safe long-term options) Nityam 1 tab at bedtime with warm water or milk gandharvahastadi taila (5–10 ml at night with warm milk) for vata anulomana triphala 3 gm twice can be used local oleation and lubrication 1–2 tsp ghee at bedtime regularly this reduces dryness and helps natural evacuation abhyanga (external oiling) daily abdominal massage with warm sesame oil, clockwise direction helps stimulate colon movement diet correction include soaked black raisins, figs (anjeer) warm, cooked foods preferred over raw salads add ghee, moong dal, vegetable soups avoid excessive tea/coffee and bakery items advanced therapy (if not improving) matra basti (oil enema) is the most effective treatment for chronic vata constipation, this will give you quick relief but should be done under supervision Chronic constipation can lead to piles, fissure so take it seriously

Osmotic laxatives (Miralax): Safe for long-term use in many cases, but dependency can develop if the bowel becomes reliant on them. –Your constipation is mainly due to Vata imbalance, which governs movement in the body, including digestion. When Vata is aggravated, it slows bowel movements, causing dryness and difficulty passing stool. Even if you drink water and eat some fiber, the root cause is the imbalance in digestion and bowel motility. Regular use of laxatives like Miralax gives temporary relief but does not correct the underlying Vata imbalance. Ayurvedic management focuses on: –Rx 1) Aimil Triphala Capsules: 1 at night with warm water → mild laxative 2) Aimil Pulvolax Granules: 1 tsp at bedtime with warm water → gentle relief 3) Aimil Amlycure Syrup/Capsules: 2 tsp 2–3× daily after meals → supports digestion & bowel health — Routine Tips Drink warm water in the morning Eat fiber-rich cooked foods (papaya, figs, oats) 1 tsp ghee at night Light yoga (Vajrasana, Pawanmuktasana) — after 15 days according to your condition will plan for virechana – a Panchkarma procedure in ayurveda to detox your body and it will give the good results

Hi You are chronic constipated that means you have vata aggravation But not to worry you will be fine You can take Tab chitrakadi vati-2-BD Zandu nityam 1 tab at night for 7 days only Start taking 1 tsp ghee in your dal or sabji Avoid junk food and non veg spicy food Drink excess water You have overcome your issues by changing your diet and daily routine because you can’t be dependent on medicines for long time to help with your constipation Thankyou

Chronic constipation of this severity where bowel movement does not occur for five to seven days indicates a significant disturbance in colonic motility and functional bowel regulation rather than a simple dietary issue This usually happens when apana vata gets disturbed and stays like that for long time due to irregular food habits stress late nights suppression of urges or excessive use of laxatives like Miralax which gives relief for the moment but slowly makes the bowel dependent and dull Right now the aim is not to force motion but to bring back natural urge slowly and safely Start taking one to two teaspoons of warm cow ghee at night in warm milk or warm water this will start lubricating the colon from inside and over days it will reduce dryness Every morning wake up and drink two glasses of warm water then sit in toilet at the same time daily even if there is no urge this will train your brain and bowel connection again Take triphala powder one teaspoon in warm water at night this will help tone the intestines and improve movement gradually not like a strong laxative but more like correction Once or twice a week you can take one teaspoon castor oil in warm milk at night for deeper cleansing do not take it daily Massage warm sesame oil over lower abdomen especially left side in downward direction daily this helps apana vata move in the right direction Food should be simple warm and slightly oily include rice with ghee moong dal vegetable soups soaked black raisins soaked figs avoid dry cold food bakery items excess tea and coffee as they increase dryness Also see if there are other causes like Hypothyroidism or Irritable Bowel Syndrome if this continues for long time it is better to check basic blood tests and understand the root cause Be patient with the process because chronic constipation takes time to reverse but once the colon regains its strength natural urge will come back without depending on medicines

Severe constipation where you don’t pass stools for 5–7 days indicates a deep Vata imbalance with colon dryness and weak bowel movement reflex. In such cases, only laxatives give temporary relief but do not correct the root problem. The treatment has to focus on lubrication of the colon, improving peristalsis, and restoring natural urge. Start with Triphala churna 1–1.5 tsp at bedtime with warm water + 1 tsp ghee, this helps soften stool and gradually rebuild bowel tone. Add Gandharvahastadi kashayam 15 ml before dinner daily, which specifically improves bowel movement in chronic constipation. In the morning, take 1 glass warm water with 1 tsp ghee on empty stomach to stimulate natural urge. Very important step in your case is lubrication. At least 2–3 tsp ghee daily in meals is necessary, as dryness is the main cause. Avoid dry foods, raw salads, cold foods, and excess fiber supplements, as they can worsen constipation when Vata is high. If constipation is still very stubborn, take castor oil 1–2 tsp with warm milk once or twice a week at bedtime, which gives a deeper cleansing without dependency like chemical laxatives. Along with this, maintain fixed meal timings and try to sit for bowel movement every morning after warm fluids, even if urge is not strong, to retrain the reflex. Within 2–3 weeks, stool frequency improves, and over time dependency on laxatives reduces as the natural bowel movement gets restored.

Ji listen carefully, As i read your complaints, First u have to understand why constipation occur 1. Due to less water intake ( in ur case this is fine) 2. Due to decreased peristalsis movement of Gut ( the cause of it may be reduce nerve supply, or due to vit b12 deficency, or sometime due to stress and depression 3. Third is low digestive fire ( if proper fire is not there then body is unable to produce waste products. Please observe your body if u having any backpain, numbness or tingling sensation in legs then it is comes under 2 category treatment is Gandharvhastdai kashyam 2 tsf bd If u having heaviness in abdomen after food then category 3 is there treatment is Dhanwantran gulika or hinguvachadi gulika If you feeling same as i mention above then dont worrey i will cure it 100% permanently For further you can cosult me
