No, medhe vati does not cause high sugar levels. Understanding your father’s problem, I am giving you some medicine. ●The Importance of Diet in Diabetes According to Ayurveda, if the diet is not correct, even the best medicine cannot show its full effect. In diabetes, The purpose of diet is to: • Prevent the increase of phlegm • Reduce fat • Stabilize the digestive fireWhat to eat (grains and pulses) Dietary grains: • Wheat in limited quantities. Dietary pulses: • Mung bean, gram, pigeon pea • Barley, kodo, and savanna • Old rice (Shashtik Shali) • Horse gram (Kulathi). These grains are considered light, rough, and anti-phlegm and fat. Avoid new grains. What to Eat (Vegetables) Bitter and astringent vegetables: • Bitter gourd • Fenugreek, pointed gourd, drumstick • Radish, cucumber • Bottle gourd, ridge gourd, spinach • Leafy vegetables: These vegetables gently balance the phlegm and fat in the body. What to drink (drinks) Dietary drinks: • Buttermilk • Lukewarm water • Triphala water Kushodak/Sarodak (as advised by a doctor) Sweet drinks, packaged juices • Cold water Avoid sugary drinks. ●What should be limited/avoided? Sweets • White flour • Fried food • Excessive oil • Yogurt (at night) • Potatoes, sweet potatoes Excessive fruit (especially sweets) Diabetes requires balance, not abstinence. ●The Principle of Multi-Medicine Formula Multi-medicine combinations are considered more effective in treating diabetes than single medications, because they simultaneously act on: • Kapha-Meda • Agni • Dhatu • Srotas ●Herbs Used (Composition) 25 grams each: • Bitter gourd seeds, Gudmar • Wild jamun seeds, Neem, Giloy, Ashwagandha • Neem bark, Belpatra • Triphala, Turmeric • Special ingredients: • Pure Shilajit - 50 grams • Trivanga Bhasma - 12 grams This combination is chosen for phlegm-absorption, ama-reduction, and metal balancing. ●Quantity and ratio Normal quantities • 2 to 3 gm 1 or 2 times a day Drinking (with): • Warm water or takra (buttermilk) Time: • Before meals or as directed by the doctor The amount varies according to the nature, age and disease state of the person. Medha Vati is primarily a Medhya Rasayana (brain and nervous system tonic). It contains herbs that: Calm the mind (Manas) Improve cognition Can influence hormonal and metabolic pathways indirectly. 👉 Medha Vati may have: 1.Improved thyroid function (Agni stimulation at one level) But disturbed systemic balance, causing uneven glucose metabolism 2. Vata aggravation in old age In the 70s, Vata dominates naturally Medha Vati has calming but also subtle stimulating effects This can destabilize glucose regulation in a Vata-prone व्यक्ति 👉 So yes, it is possible Medha Vati contributed indirectly to sugar imbalance. 🍀 What Ayurveda would suggest now 🍀 1. Focus on Agni correction first. Without fixing digestion, sugar won’t stabilize. Warm, light, easily digestible food Avoid: ⚠️ Heavy, oily, मिठाई, curd at night Excess fruits (even “healthy” ones can raise sugar in Madhumeha) Gentle herbs 🌿 Instead of Medha Vati, classical options for this condition include: Triphala (mild detox + digestion support). Nishamalaki churna or chandraprabha vati will be good option. Dr. Muskan Chopra Ayurvedacharyaa

Could you help with dosage of mentioned medication? Patient is even having age related cerebral atrophy.

RX- Nishamalki churna-0.5 tsp or 3gm twice a day before meal. Tab. Chandraprabhavati 1 tablet twice a day after meal. Triphala churna 3 gm at bedtime with lukewarm water.

For cerebral atrophy I suggest Shirodhara (oil poured on forehead). Abhyanga (oil massage) with bhrami oil will stimulate nerves and reduce vata doshas .

Grateful for your guidance. Will be starting with mentioned medicine asap. Apologies for constant queries. Will be glad if you could mention any specific brand to be preferred while choosing Churna or tablets. Lastly, as you mentioned Shirodhar oil or Abhyanga oil for massage. Patient is most of the time resting in AC atmosphere, any of these oils will have cold potent effect on head? Catching cold or any issue? Do mention preferred brand

For chandraprabhavati and triphala churna dhoodpapeshwar and For nishamalki churna vaidhyaratnam.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. We have to avoid direct air contact after panchakarma therapy. My suggestion would be after shirodhara avoid air contact or AC upto 30 mins. I suggest you to avoid AC instead use natural air because heavy Consumption of AC may also trigger many symptoms. Nagarjuna bhrami oil is best . Thank you for your consideration. Feel free to ask anytime. Warm Regards, Dr. Muskan Chopra Ayurvedacharyaa

Just an update on his recent medical reports. His thyroid profile, CRP hs report are normal. NT bnp report is 4207. 3 months back before medha vati it was 2300. in his last 2D Echo in the month of January 2026, his pumping range was mentioned as 25%. direuutic is on every 3rd day, lasix 40 power. there is no swelling on body. can bnp be due to medha vati? And in any way can be improve his heart health at this age without interrupting allopathy and homeopathy?

No, high bnp is not due to meda vati. At this age, you should consult a good cardiologist regarding this. In Ayurveda I can prescribe Arjun kwath 5ml early morning and at evening, 30 mins before meal .

Initiated 3 of all prescribed medications. Nishamlaki Churnam, Bramhi oil and Triphala Churna. Have ordered Chandraprabhavati of your preferred brand. We have found some positive results. PP sugar have come near to normal range. But on days when we are feeding him only 1 juicy fruit even in little quantity (lichi, muskmelon or watermelon), it is giving sugar spike. Like today he had 2 litchis, so PP was 247. 2 days back it was 169. Request to please assist with brand for Arjun Kwath

Medha Vati mainly works on Manovaha Srotas (nervous system) and helps reduce stress (Vata–Pitta balance). It is not a diabetes medicine, but it can indirectly influence blood sugar through metabolism and digestion (Agni). In elderly patients, Agni (digestive/metabolic power) is already weak Medha Vati may alter metabolism or appetite pattern It can interact with existing thyroid and heart medicines This may lead to fluctuation in postprandial (PP) sugar Important point: Since sugar is still high even after stopping, it suggests: Not only Medha Vati But progression of diabetes + age-related metabolism + medications

no medha vati can not be responsible for high pps, it will actually help in managing the stress, anxiety and high blood pressure conditions, if any… for high pps- gudmar ghana vati/ meshashringi vati(himalayas)-1-0-1 after food vasantkusumakar ras-1 tab in afternoon after food… diabetic diet to be followed, no dinner after 7:30/8pm, good sleep should be taken, no stress to be taken, avoid milk and milk products Do anti-gravitational exercises like climbing stairs and brisk walking also …all this will help if complains constipation- muct to be treated with triphala churna- 1tsp with warm water at night bedtime

Hello, Yes, it is possible that medha vati contributed to fluctuations in blood sugar, but it is unlikely to be the only reason, esepcially since sugars are still high even after stopping it About Medha vati:- It is mainly used for -mind, stress, cognition -nervous systemm balance It contains multiple herbs and -it is not designed specifically for diabetes -itse effect on blood sugar is not very predictable In some individuals -it may indirectly affect metabolism or appetite -could interact with ongoing medicines -rarely may disturb sugar control indirectly In your father’s case (important) Your father has -diabetes -ischemic heart disease -thyroid disorder -post prostate surgery -on multiple medications This is a complex metabolic situation So -even a mild herbal addition like Medha vati ca shift balance -but persistent high PP sugar after stopping it suggests –underlying diabetes progression or medication adjustment issue Most likely explanation -medha vati may have triggered imbalance temporarily but current high sugar is more likely due to -diabetes progression -digestion/ metabolism disturbance -medication changes -age related insulin resistance Ayurvedic view This looks like madhumeha with mandagni (weak digestion/ metabolism) Focus should be -improving digestion + stabilizing metabolism ,not random additions Internally 1) Gentle metabolic support -Nishamalaki tablets= 2 tab twice daily after meals with warm water =commonly used for blood sugar support -Triphala tablets= 2 tabs at bedtime with warm water =supports digestion + metabolism Diet -early dinners -warm , light meals -small walks after meals very effective for PP sugar Reduce -fruits in excess especially after meals -rice quantity at dinner Digestion focus you mentioned -digestion and metabolism gone for toss This is key -sugar will remain unstable -medicines won’t act properly What to expect -2-4 weeks= PP sugar may start stabilizing with diet + routine -6-8 weeks= better metabolic response Do not restart Medha vati right now Continue close follow up Monitor -fasting sugar -PP sugar -any weakness, dizziness Yes, medha vati could have contributed- but not the sole cause Current issue is more about metabolic imbalance + diabetes progression Focus on stable, digestion oriented plan, not switching multiple remedies Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you

Medha Vati is mainly a brain and nerve-support formulation, and it is not directly meant for blood sugar control. In most cases, it does not significantly raise sugar on its own. However, in elderly patients with multiple conditions (heart disease, thyroid, diabetes) and ongoing medications, even small changes can disturb metabolic balance. In your father’s case: It is possible but not very common that Medha Vati indirectly affected sugar levels More likely, the fluctuation is due to overall metabolism, thyroid variation, or interaction with existing medicines Since sugar remained high even after stopping it, Medha Vati is not the sole cause. Right now, focus should be on stabilizing sugar and digestion rather than restarting it. Keep diet very consistent: Avoid fruits in excess (especially at night), avoid sweets, refined carbs. Give small, frequent meals. Early dinner is better. Support digestion, as weak digestion can worsen sugar control. Chandraprabha vati – 1 tablet twice daily after food Gudmar (Meshashringi) tablet – 1 tablet twice daily before food Avipattikar tablet – 1 tablet before dinner Monitor sugar regularly. Do not restart Medha Vati for now. Also, continue close follow-up with his physician, as medication adjustment may be required. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)

Medha Vati is unlikely to be the direct cause of the high sugar levels-especially since they have persisted a month after stopping-the fluctuation is likely a complex interaction between his age, metabolic changes, and his increased heart medication. Because certain heart medicines can impact glucose tolerance. 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇 To help manage both his heart health and sugar levels- Focus on whole grains like Oats, Dalia (broken wheat), or Brown Rice instead of white rice or refined flour. Instead of three large meals, give him 5-6 smaller portions. This puts less strain on his heart and keeps his insulin levels more stable. Include walnuts, almonds, and flaxseeds. Use minimal oil for cooking, opting for heart-friendly choices like mustard or olive oil. Even if he avoids sweets, avoid very sweet fruits (like mangoes or grapes). Stick to Papaya, Jamun, or Guava in moderation. include buttermilk (Chaas) with a pinch of roasted cumin or ginger water to naturally stimulate metabolism without adding calories. A very gentle 10-15 minute walk after lunch and dinner He was taking Medha Vati for brain health, replace it with Pranayama (deep breathing) or light meditation for 15 minutes daily. Ensure he drinks enough water throughout the day Aim for a disciplined sleep schedule.

Can Medha Vati cause high sugar levels??? The short answer is unlikely to be the sole cause, especially since the high Postprandial (PP) sugar has persisted for over a month after stopping the medicine. *Indirect Influence: Medha Vati is primarily a brain and nerve tonic. While it doesn’t directly contain sugar or sugar-raising herbs, it can influence metabolism. In some cases, it may improve thyroid function (as you observed), which can indirectly shift how the body processes glucose. *The “Age” Factor: In the 70s, the body is in the Vata stage of life. Even minor herbal additions can sometimes destabilize a fragile metabolic balance, leading to fluctuations. *Other Potential Causes: Since the sugar levels remain high, the cause is more likely related to: -Diabetes Progression: Natural changes in insulin resistance over time. -Medication Interactions: The increase in heart medication dosage can sometimes impact glucose tolerance. -Weak Digestion (Mandagni): You mentioned his digestion has “gone for a toss.” In Ayurveda, if the digestive fire is weak, blood sugar will remain unstable regardless of the medication used. Follow these medicines: 1.Chandraprabha vati 2 tab twice daily with water after meals 2.Nishamalaki churna 1/2 tsp twice daily with warm water before meals 3.Triphala churna 1 tsp at bedtime with warm water Diet & Lifestyle Tips for Postprandial (PP) Sugar Small, Frequent Meals: Instead of three large meals, switch to 5–6 smaller portions to prevent sugar spikes and reduce strain on the heart. Walk After Meals: A gentle 10–15 minute walk immediately after lunch and dinner is one of the most effective ways to lower PP sugar levels. Early Dinner: Ensure he finishes dinner by 7:30 PM or 8:00 PM to give the body ample time to process the meal before sleep. Avoid High-Sugar Fruits: While he eats a balanced diet, limit very sweet fruits like mangoes, grapes, or sapota, especially in the evening.

Medha vati is for mental calmness, of blood sugar thyroid is due to stress, depression, anxiety, then medha vati can help reduce these parameters. For blood sugar you can start with Karela jamun juice 15 ml twice daily after food with water and. Do pranayam lom -vilom bhastrika bhamri 5-10mins twice daily. Do long walks .

Hello, It is understandable to be concerned about how different medications interact, especially when managing multiple chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and thyroid issues. In Ayurveda, a 70-year-old patient is in the Vata stage of life. The combination of Ischemic Heart Disease (Hridroga), Diabetes (Madhumeha), and Prostate issues indicates a complex imbalance of Vata and Kapha affecting the Dhatus (tissues), particularly the metabolic fire (Agni). While Medha Vati is primarily used for cognitive health and thyroid support, it contains ingredients like Malkangni (Celastrus paniculatus) and Ashwagandha. These can sometimes stimulate metabolic activity. If a herb improves thyroid function, it speeds up metabolism. This can occasionally cause a temporary fluctuation in how the body processes glucose or interacts with existing Allopathic insulin/sugar medications. The surgery and heavy Allopathic load likely caused Mandagni (weak digestion), leading to Ama (toxins), which is a primary driver for high post-prandial (PP) sugar. Ayurvedic Management To address the metabolic “toss” and high PP sugar without straining the heart, the focus should be on Deepana (kindling digestion) and Prameha (urinary/sugar) regulation. 1. Glymin Plus Tablet This is a potent formulation for sugar management. It contains Gymnema and Turmeric, which help in regulating glucose metabolism without the sudden spikes. Dose: 1 tablet twice daily, 30 minutes before food. 2. Liposem Tablet Since he has Ischemic Heart Disease and high sugar, this helps manage cholesterol and supports heart health by clearing metabolic pathways (Srotas). Dose: 1 tablet twice daily after food. 3. Dhanwantharam Gulika This is excellent for elderly patients with heart issues and Vata imbalances. It helps with breathlessness and supports overall vitality. Dose: 1 pill twice daily, crushed and mixed with warm water after food.
