●Main causes • Standing for long periods of time • Obesity • Pregnancy • Genetic factors • Old blood clots • Infrequent movement ●What does Ayurveda say? In Ayurveda, this is called Siragranthi/Siravikriti. This condition is primarily associated with an aggravation of Vata dosha and obstruction of blood flow. Treatment aims to balance Vata and improve blood circulation. ●Ayurvedic Remedy 1. Ashwagandha Powder with Milk: Drink 1 teaspoon of Ashwagandha powder mixed with lukewarm milk before going to bed at night. It reduces nerve weakness, balances Vata, and provides inner strength. Take regularly for at least 60 days. 2. Mandukaparni (Gotu Kola) on an empty stomach in the morning. Take 500 mg of Mandukaparni powder with lukewarm water. It increases nerve elasticity and improves blood flow. Consume regularly for 2-3 months. 3. Use of Garlic Empty stomach in the morning Lightly crush 2 cloves of raw garlic and swallow them with lukewarm water. This thins the blood and prevents clots. 4. Aloe Vera Gel Paste: Apply fresh aloe vera gel to the swollen veins before going to bed. Wash it off after 15-20 minutes. This reduces swelling and irritation. 5. Sesame Oil Massage (Most Important): Apply lukewarm sesame oil every night. Gently massage from the toes to the thighs, from the bottom up, for 5-7 minutes. This helps to circulate stagnant blood upward. ●Lifestyle Improvements • Avoid standing for long periods of time • Walk a little every 30 minutes Elevate your legs while sleeping Pavanmuktasana, Viparita Karani Asana • Bathe with lukewarm water • Eat fiber-rich foods

At 72, with one vein already not functioning properly, the goal is to prevent progression and improve circulation, rather than trying to “reverse” the vein. You are already doing the most important step — compression stockings, continue them regularly. Avoid long sitting or standing. Keep leg slightly elevated when resting. Gentle walking daily is very helpful for circulation. Do not depend only on Mimosa pudica — it is not a reliable solution for this condition. At home: Light massage from foot upwards towards knee using warm sesame oil (very gentle, no deep pressure). Leg elevation for 15–20 minutes twice daily. Diet: Avoid very salty, heavy, and processed food. Keep digestion good to reduce pressure on circulation. Kaishore Guggulu – 1 tablet twice daily after food Punarnava Mandur – 1 tablet twice daily after food Arjunarishta – 15 ml with equal water twice daily after food This helps improve circulation, reduce swelling, and support vessel strength. If swelling increases, skin color changes, or pain worsens, then vascular surgeon follow-up is important. Consistency is key to prevent worsening. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)

Hello, Treating varicose veins (Siraja Granthi) at 72 involves strengthening the vein walls and improving blood flow to prevent further pooling and skin complications. In Ayurveda, this is often viewed as a Vata-Pitta imbalance. Vata causes the loss of elasticity in the vein walls, while Pitta can lead to inflammation or a “burning” sensation. The goal is to purify the blood (Rakta Shodhana), improve circulation (Anulomana), and provide external support to the vessel walls. Prescription : 1. Sahacharadi Kashayam: This is the primary internal remedy for lower limb vascular issues. It helps reduce pressure and relieves the aching associated with bulging veins. Dose: 15 ml mixed with 45 ml of lukewarm water, twice daily, 30 minutes before food. 2. Chandraprabha Vati: This acts as a mild diuretic and systemic cleanser, helping to reduce any localized swelling (edema) around the ankle. Dose: 1 tablet twice daily after food. 3. Pinda Thailam (External): A cooling, Pitta-balancing oil that helps with inflammation and bulging. Apply very gently in an upward direction (from ankle toward the knee) twice daily. Do not apply heavy pressure directly on the bulging vein.

72 years, with one vein already non-functioning, the aim is to control progression, improve circulation, and prevent complications rather than reversing the vein. Internal Medicines Kaishore Guggulu – supports circulation and reduces inflammation Punarnava Mandur – helps reduce swelling Arjunarishta – strengthens blood vessels Sahacharadi Kashayam – useful for lower limb vascular issues Vcose EAZE juice - 30 ml twice a day 2. External Care: Gentle upward massage with warm sesame oil (5–10 min daily) Aloe vera gel application for soothing effect 3. Daily Routine (Very Important): Continue compression stockings (most effective support) Elevate legs 15–20 min, 2–3 times daily Avoid prolonged sitting/standing Walk regularly (improves venous return) 4. Diet Advice: Light, fiber-rich, low-salt diet Include garlic (improves circulation) Stay well hydrated

Compression stockings which is one of the most effective method to reduce pain. Make sure it is in right pressure and properly fitted. Avoid long standing and sitting for long periods, it will pool the blood. Slight movements, walking etc can be done throughout the day. Calf muscle strengthening exercises are much helpful. If possible maintain a healthy weight, be in your BMI scale. Obesity can worsen the condition. Slightly elevate the leg during night. 1. Sahacharadi kashaya 15 ml+ 45 ml lukewarm water at morning. Before food 2. Manjishtadi kashaya 15 ml+ 45 ml lukewarm water before food at evening. 3. Kaisora guggulu 1-0-1 with kashaya Took these for 2 weeks and follow up Reverse abhyangam with sahacharadi tailam can also help.

👉For varicose veins—especially at age 72 with a confirmed non-functioning vein—Ayurveda focuses on improving circulation, reducing venous congestion, and balancing Vata (movement) and Pitta (inflammation). 👉Since your symptoms are mild and compression stockings are already helping, a conservative approach is reasonable. RX- Tab. Kaishore gugglu 2 tablets twice daily after meal. Punarnavaadi kashayam-10ml twice daily after meal. Arunjunarist after breakfast 10 ml at every Morning. Triphala churna 5gm daily at bedtime. Abhyanga (oil massage) Use warm Mahanarayana oil or Sahacharadi oil 👉 Massage gently upward (from foot toward thigh) to support venous return 👉 Do this daily or at least 4–5 times/week. Lifestyle & Activity Since sitting worsens your symptoms: Avoid long sitting; move every 30–45 minutes Elevate legs (above heart level) for 15–20 minutes daily Gentle exercises: Walking Ankle rotations Leg raises Yoga poses like: Viparita Karani (legs-up-the-wall) Tadasana 🥗 Diet You already have a good diet—just refine it: Include: Fiber-rich foods (vegetables, whole grains) Garlic, ginger (improve circulation) Warm, light meals Avoid: Excess salt (worsens swelling) Fried/heavy foods Red meat (in excess) Cold, processed foods Stay well hydrated.
