Hello dear, It’s understandable that you want to move toward a more natural approach, but we need to be very careful here. Blood pressure management is a balancing act, not a switch you can just flip. And additionally I want to tell you that there is nothing much complicated in body. It’s just slightly raised blood pressure. So no need to worry. It is easily manageable by small changes in your lifestyle and with the help of some Ayurveda Medicines. No need to continue Amlodipine. We will definitely stop it gradually. So don’t worry about it. Your initial reading of 144/100 indicates Stage 2 Hypertension (specifically because that bottom number, the diastolic, was at or above 100). The fact that your BP is now 120/85–90 shows the Amlodipine is working. However, that diastolic number (85–90) is still a bit stubborn. Stopping your medication abruptly can cause rebound hypertension, where your blood pressure spikes dangerously high, increasing the risk of stroke or heart attack. In Ayurveda, hypertension is often viewed as an imbalance of Vata and Pitta affecting the Rakta Dhatu (blood tissue). Vata causes the constriction of blood vessels. Pitta increases the heat and force of the blood flow. The goal of Kerala Ayurveda protocols is typically to “cool” the blood, calm the nervous system, and improve heart muscle tone (Hridaya Balya). Prescription : 1. Primary Supplement: Liposem Tablets This is a standard Ayurveda formulation used to manage lipid profiles and vascular health, which indirectly supports healthy blood pressure. Dose: 2 tablets, twice daily, after food. 2. Support Supplement: Parthadyarishtam A fermented liquid preparation where the primary ingredient is Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna), known for strengthening the heart. Dose: 15–20 ml mixed with an equal amount of lukewarm water, twice daily after meals. How to Safely Transition You cannot “get off” allopathy by simply swapping pills. You must follow a tapering protocol. 3. Triphala tablet : for Vata anuloman. It help to reduce blood pressure by acting in various ways by its different properties. Dose : 2 tablet before food with warm water. Morning and evening 2 times. Stay on your current Amlodipine and Muktavati for at least 2 days while monitoring your BP daily. If the headache persists, the Muktavati dose may be too high for you, or your body isn’t reacting well to the Sarpagandha content. Lifestyle is Non-Negotiable, Ayurveda is 80% lifestyle. Reduce salt (Sodium), practice Savasana (corpse pose) for 10 minutes daily, and ensure 7–8 hours of sleep. How to stop Amlodipine : you should not stop it suddenly. Otherwise BP can raise. So start Ayurveda medicines first. Take it for at least 7 days with proper lifestyle and diet rules. Then after 7 days monitor your BP daily and stop Amlodipine gradually if BP is in normal range even after stopping Amlodipine.
You should not stop your allopathic BP medicine suddenly. High BP is mainly due to Vata–Pitta imbalance + Rasa/Rakta dushti. Muktavati helps, but it needs time to stabilize the system. About your headache: Headache after starting Muktavati may be due to: dose not suitable for your body Sudden BP fluctuation Pitta aggravation Safe approach to stop allopathic medicine: continue amlodipine for now Take Muktavati in lower dose (1-0-1 after food) Monitor BP daily for 10–14 days If BP remains stable (~120–130 / 80–90): gradually reduce amlodipine Never stop abruptly Supportive ayurvedic care: Diet: low salt, avoid spicy, fried food Daily: Pranayama (anulom vilom, Bhramari) Good sleep, stress control add: Amla juice or garlic (mild BP support)
Thank you for reply , got some palpitations also , Actually I took 1 tab in morning and 1 night empty stomach
Stop empty stomach intake immediately Restart Muktavati at low dose: 1 tablet after breakfast only (for few days) If comfortable, then increase to 1-0-1 after meals Continue Amlodipine as it is (don’t reduce yet) For palpitations relief Take 1 tsp Amla juice or soaked munakka (raisins) Practice Bhramari pranayama (calms heart + mind) Ensure proper hydration
Don’t worry some lifestyle modification will address your issue. Avoid packed, processed and salty products. Regular exercise and meditation. Increase intake of raw vegetables and fruits. Drink sufficient quantity of water. Slowly withdraw Allopathic medicine. Tab.Arjin 2-0-2 Monitor BP regularly. Follow up after 1 week.
Do not stop Amlodipine suddenly. BP medicines should always be reduced gradually with monitoring, otherwise BP can shoot up again. Headache after starting Muktavati usually indicates BP fluctuation or dose not suiting initially. Right approach: Continue Amlodipine for now. Do not stop it abruptly. Reduce Muktavati dose first: Take only 1 tablet twice daily instead of 2 Monitor BP daily (morning & evening) After 10–14 days: If BP remains stable (around 120–130/80–90), then gradual tapering can be done: Amlodipine 2.5 mg → alternate day for 1–2 weeks Then stop, only if BP remains stable Lifestyle is very important: Avoid excess salt, stress, late nights. Continue exercise and good sleep. Ghar par: Warm water in morning + deep breathing (pranayama) daily. Muktavati – 1 tablet twice daily Sarpagandha vati – 1 tablet at night (if BP tends to rise) If headache persists or BP fluctuates, adjust dose accordingly and stay in touch with your doctor. Goal is safe transition, not sudden stopping. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)
My suggestion would be reduce muktavati dose to 1 tablet and if headache persists stop mukta vati . May be due to BP fluctuations mukta vati is not suitable for you currently. Don’t stop allopathic medicine now, watch bp for 2-3 months than we will plan your treatment. Currently, don’t stop allopathic medicine and keep watch on your bp
I can understand your concern and your wish to come off allopathy medicine but we have to do this very gently and safely your BP was on the higher side earlier and now it has come down well with Amlodipine which shows your body is responding well so we should not stop it suddenly as that can again increase your BP and create fluctuations Now after starting Divya Mukta Vati you are getting headache this can happen when both medicines act together or when the body is adjusting or if the dose is slightly strong for you at this stage so for now I would advise you to pause Mukta Vati for a few days and observe whether the headache reduces continue your current tablet as prescribed and monitor your BP regularly morning and evening Once your body feels stable you can restart Mukta Vati in a smaller dose like one tablet once daily and keep a gap from your current medicine then slowly we can assess how your body is responding if BP remains stable over time only then we can think of gradual reduction of allopathy medicine under guidance not abruptly Along with this focus more on your lifestyle take simple warm fresh food reduce salt especially in packaged items include light daily walking manage stress and ensure proper sleep because mind and BP are deeply connected in Ayurveda this condition is usually related to vata pitta imbalance affecting the blood channels so calming and stabilising the system is very important rather than rushing to stop medicines We will move step by step and support your body naturally in a safe way
Do yoga and Pranayam regularly with the medication and proper healthy dietry habbit… is important for hypertension cases … Do anulom vilom Pranav Om uchharan Along with mukta vati Avoid excess salt and oily and packed food items
Hello priyanka Its really appreciable that you are monitoring your blood pressure as sudden change in bp can be risky so we have to cautiously manage it Understanding your condition Your previous bp reading was 144/100 and now it is around 120/90 with allopathic medicine amlodipine And recently you have started divya mukta vati You are experiencing headache after 3 days This is mostly due to sudden BP fluctuations Your body is trying to get adjusted to the new medication Important= you should not stop your allopathic medicine suddenly it should be gradually tappered down Why you should not stop it suddenly? Suddenly stoping medicine can cause sudden increase in bp which we called it as rebound hypertension This can cause headache and dizziness Step by step management ➖First we need to stabilize your bp -Continue amlodipine 2.5mg -Reduce your divya mukta vati dose 1 tablet twice daily instead of 2 Monitor your bp regularly Also observe your headache ➖Gradual tappering method After 15 days once your bp is stabilize You can make Amlodepine alternate dau And continue mukta vati same dose Also keep monitoring your bp ➖Once your bp is stabilized We will stop Amlodepine Continue mukta vati Regular monitoring of BP is essential I hope this helped you😊 Wishing you a good health😊 Warm Regards Dr Snehal Vidhate
Thank you so much doctor , your response means a lot to me .
As the mukta vati has been started very recently, do not stop your allopathic medications so fast…as you are experiencing headache also 🌿 approach: focus on gradual bp control + nervous system stability, avoiding sudden changes. amlodipine 2.5 mg → relaxes blood vessels and maintains stable bp (continue same dose for now, do not stop abruptly) muktavati – 1 tablet morning + 1 tablet night before food → helps reduce bp by calming mind and regulating vascular tone 🔁 tapering guidance: once bp remains stable, you may gradually taper allopathic dose (not stop suddenly). keep regular bp monitoring for 15–20 days during tapering, as mild fluctuations can occur. 💊 for headache: godanti bhasma – 125 mg with honey, once or twice daily → helps reduce pitta-related heat and relieves headache 🛢️ supportive care: head or foot massage with brahmi taila / ksheerabala taila → relaxes nervous system and supports bp control 🧘 lifestyle: ✔️ daily pranayama (especially anulom vilom) + meditation (10–15 min) ✔️ continue regular exercise and proper sleep ❌ avoid stress, excess salt, caffeine ⚠️ important: bp may fluctuate slightly during dose adjustment—regular monitoring is key. Thankyou — Dr. Shubhi Goel | Ayurvedic Consultant
The moderate headaches and palpitations you mentioned are common signs that your body is struggling with a sudden fluctuation in blood pressure or that the combined dosage of Amlodipine and Muktavati is currently too high for your system. Immediate Step: Stop taking Muktavati on an empty stomach. you should restart it at a lower dose of 1 tablet after breakfast only. Ayurvedic Treatment Protocol----- 1.Sarpagandha vati 1 tab at bedtime with water 2.Divya mukta vati 1 tab twice daily with water after meals 3.Arjuanrishta 15 ml with 15 ml water twice daily after meals Safe Tapering Strategy Do not stop Amlodipine abruptly. A safe transition usually takes 4–8 weeks. Stabilization (Weeks 1–2): Continue Amlodipine 2.5 mg while taking the reduced dose of Muktavati (1 tablet twice daily). The Overlap: Monitor your BP daily. If it remains stable (around 120/80) for 2 consecutive weeks, move Amlodipine to alternate days. Final Taper: Only after 4–6 weeks of stable readings on alternate-day doses should you consider stopping the allopathic medicine entirely Lifestyle & Supportive Care Pranayama: Practice Anulom Vilom and Bhramari (10–15 min daily) to soothe the nervous system and lower stress. External Therapy: A head or foot massage with Brahmi Taila can help relax the nervous system and manage the headaches. Diet: Use Saindhava Lavane (Rock Salt) instead of common table salt and increase your intake of bottle gourd (Lauki) juice.
I completely understand what you’re trying to do—move towards Ayurveda and eventually come off medication. That’s a very reasonable goal… just needs to be done gently and safely. About your headache—since it started after beginning Muktavati, it’s a clear sign that your body is not comfortable with it. This happens sometimes—Muktavati can act a little strongly in certain individuals and may trigger headaches or fluctuations. So for now, it’s better to stop Muktavati. Instead, you can shift to something milder and more balanced: HT KOT – 1 tablet twice daily after meals Now, the most important part—and I really want you to take this seriously— please do not stop your current BP medicine suddenly. You’re on Amlodipine, and it has already brought your BP down nicely from 144/100 to a much safer range. If you stop it abruptly, BP can shoot up again without warning. We don’t want that risk. Think of this as a transition phase, not a switch. For the next 2–3 weeks: Continue Amlodipine as it is Start HT KOT Keep monitoring your BP (you’re already doing that well ) Once your readings stay consistently stable, your doctor can gradually taper the allopathic medicine. That’s the safest and smartest way to come off it. Along with this, just keep a few simple things in mind: Don’t go too low or too high on salt—keep it balanced Maintain your exercise routine Add 10–15 minutes of calm breathing (Anulom Vilom, Bhramari) Try to keep sleep regular—this alone helps BP more than we realise Right now, your body is already responding well—you just need to support it, not push it. If the headache settles after stopping Muktavati, that confirms the cause. If it doesn’t, then we’ll reassess calmly. We’ll get you off medication—but step by step, not suddenly.
The moderate, distracting headache you developed after 3 days is a classic warning sign that your blood pressure is dropping too low or fluctuating too rapidly, causing a state of mild cerebral hypoperfusion (reduced blood flow to the brain). Here is exactly what is happening: Amlodipine 2.5 mg was already keeping your blood pressure beautifully controlled at a very safe 120/85. By suddenly adding 2 whole tablets of Mukta Vati which contains Sarpagandha, an extremely potent natural hypotensive-you effectively doubled your blood pressure medication overnight. Your blood vessels relaxed too much, and your brain responded to the sudden drop in pressure with a headache. In Ayurveda, this sudden drop in pressure rapidly aggravates the Vata dosha in the head, leading directly to this type of pain. ✓The Safe Tapering Protocol It is fantastic that your allopathic doctor supports your transition, and your regular exercise routine proves your heart is strong enough to handle this. However, you must transition scientifically, not abruptly. Step 1: Stop the Mukta Vati Immediately Halt the 2 tablets of Mukta Vati today. Allow your body a full 24 to 48 hours to clear the excess herbal medicine from your bloodstream and let the headache resolve entirely. Keep taking your Amlodipine normally during these two days so your pressure doesn’t rebound. Step 2: Monitor During the Pain Since you check your BP daily, take a reading exactly when your headache feels the worst. If your systolic pressure (the top number) is dipping below 110 or 105, it confirms that you are currently over-medicated. Step 3: The Step-Down Transition Method Amlodipine 2.5 mg is already the lowest standard dose. You cannot cut the pill safely. Instead, ask your doctor about an alternate-day strategy. For example, take Amlodipine on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Step 4: Re-introducing Ayurveda Safely On the days you skip the Amlodipine, introduce just 1 tablet (never 2 at this stage) of Mukta Vati. Continue your daily monitoring. If your BP stays perfectly stable in that 120/80 range for two weeks on this hybrid schedule, you and your doctor can discuss dropping the Amlodipine entirely. ✓Crucial Care Rules Hydration is Key: When transitioning blood pressure medications, minor dehydration can trigger sudden drops in pressure. Ensure you are drinking adequate warm water throughout the day. Avoid Sudden Movements: Until your blood vessels adapt to the new chemical balance, do not stand up suddenly from a lying or seated position, as this can cause dizziness or worsen the headache (Orthostatic Hypotension). Mukta vati is given to Reduce blood pressure. If 2 tablet is giving you headache, the divide the dose as 1-0-1 , with water. Continue allopathic medicine and ayurvedic treatment parallely, once blood pressure starts reducing, let your doctor reduce the dosage of allopathic medicine,as required, don’t stop suddenly and don’t self medicate. If with muktavati, blood pressure is not showing much improvement, then you can add Normact tablet 1-0-0 after food with water. Lessen intake of salt in your diet. Do pranayam lom -vilom bhastrika bhamri 5-10mins twice daily.
Hello, Do NOT stop amlodipine suddenly just because you started Muktavati That approach is unsafe and is likely the reason you are getting headaches Why you got headache after started Muktavati Muktavati is a strong herbal antihypertensive (contains saprpagandha, brahmi etc) What likely happened: -you were already controlled on Amlodipine -then added Muktavati (2 tab= full dose) -Result-> Bp dropped faster than your body could adjust This causes -headache -heaviness -sometimes dizziness So this is not a side effect in the usual sense . It is overcorrection of Bp Ayurvedic understanding of Your Bp Your Bp pattern (144/100)-> now 120/85-90) suggests: -pitta + vata aggravation -stress component (very common) -rakta dhatu imbalance (blood circulation tension) Treatment goals (very important) Not just -stop allopathy But -stabilize Bp naturally -calm nervous system -reduce dependecy gradually (if possible) Correct way to use Muktavati (safe method) Step 1= Reduce dose immediately Instead of 2 tablets Take -1 tab at night only Step 2= Continue amlodipine for now -do NOT stop yet -keep same dose (2.5 mg) Step 3= Monitor Bp properly -morning (before bed) -evening (same time daily) When to reduce amlodipine? Only after Bp consistently -110-125 systolic -75-85 diastolic No symptoms (no dizziness, no headache) Stable for 10-14 days Then taper like this (with doctor guidance) -Amlodipine 2.5- mg-> alternate day -continue Muktavati low dose Never stop abruptly If headache continues Do this -reduce Muktavati further —> 1/2 tablet OR stop for 2-3 days -Check Bp during headache —> if Bp < 110-> dose too strong Lifestyle (this is actually the main treatment) Diet -reduce salt slightly (not extreme) Avoid -fried food -packaged food Include -fruits banana, pomegranate -vegetables -light meals Daily routine -walking (you are already doing good) -avoid late nights Stress very important Bp is strongly linked to stress Do daily -anulom vilom = 10 min -bhramari= 5 min Simple Ayurvedic additions Safer than high dose Muktavati -Brahmi vati= 1 tab at bedime (calms mind + Bp) -Arjuna capsule= 1 cap twice daily after meals (heart support) These are milder and safer for long term use Investigations -kidney function -lipid profile -blood sugar -ECG (if not done) Final clear guidance -Headache= dose too strong -reduce Muktavati immediately -Do NOT stop amlodipine suddenly -Transition slowly over weeks, not days Your goal should be -stable Bp without symptoms- not just “no allopathic medicine” Many pateints successfully reduce medicines, but only with -patience -monitoring -gradual transition Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you
