In Ayurveda, dark circles and facial pigmentation are mainly seen as an imbalance of Pitta (heat + pigmentation) along with Rakta dhatu (blood tissue) vitiation, sometimes combined with Vata dryness around the eyes. Since this has been present since teenage years, it is likely a long-standing constitutional imbalance rather than a temporary issue, so the approach should be systematic, gentle, and consistent. Ayurvedic Approach for Dark Circles & Facial Pigmentation 1. Internal Balance (Core Healing) To reduce excess Pitta and purify Rakta: Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia) – best blood purifier for pigmentation Sariva (Hemidesmus indicus) – cools internal heat, improves skin clarity Amla (Emblica officinalis) – rich Rasayana, improves skin glow Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) – reduces hidden inflammation & Pitta These herbs help correct the root cause rather than just surface treatment. 🔹 2. Dietary Guidelines (Very Important) To reduce pigmentation tendency: Include: Coconut water Fresh fruits (pomegranate, pear, apple) Green vegetables Ghee in moderation Avoid: Excess tea/coffee Spicy, fried, and sour foods Late-night meals Excess screen exposure at night 3. External Ayurvedic Care (Under-Eye + Face) Daily gentle application: Kumkumadi Tailam (very thin layer at night) Almond oil + rose water (for under-eye massage) Aloe vera gel + sandalwood paste (2–3 times/week for face pigmentation) Always apply with light tapping (ring finger)—never rub harshly. 4. Eye Care Ritual (Very Effective in Ayurveda) Triphala eye wash (once weekly) – strengthens eye tissues Cold rose water compress (daily 10 minutes) – reduces pigmentation and fatigue Adequate sleep (critical for under-eye repair) 5. Lifestyle Correction (Often Ignored but Powerful) 7–8 hours deep sleep Reduce stress (stress increases Pitta → pigmentation) Limit screen exposure, especially at night Daily sunlight exposure in morning (10–15 min)
For pigmented dark circles and mild facial pigmentation: Mahamanjisthadi Kwath – 15 ml with equal water twice daily before food. Gandhak Rasayan – 1 tablet twice daily after food. Kumkumadi Tailam – apply a few drops over dark circles and pigmented areas at night. Diet: Take amla daily (1–2 tsp powder or fresh fruit). Drink adequate water and get 7–8 hours of sleep. Avoid excessive sun exposure; use sunscreen during the day.
