What to do for recurring high fever and fatigue after traveling to India, could it be a parasite? - #56317

Hello! I travelled to India from the USA in February 2026. I did not eat any meat there. I had no health problems during my 3 week stay, but when I came home I had intense diarrhea and a severe fever. I fasted, and then I recovered. Every two to three weeks since the , I have gotten a very high fever that lasts about two days. It is accompanied by serious fatigue, which typically starts days before the fever. The second time I got a fever - my lungs were very hurt. The next time I got a fever - my stomach was very hurt. My stool has ranged from quite healthy to quite loose/stinky, but I have not had diarrhea since my return from the trip. Every time I get a fever, I fast for a few days and then I am ok. My most recent fever was 104, and my eyelids turned very red and dry. I fasted and am now recovered, but I am wondering if I might have a parasite! I have done enemas a few times, and I am now taking ivermectin and parasitic oils like black walnut, oregano, and wormwood. Do you have any suggestions or ideas? Thank you so much!

fever of 104°F recurring every 2–3 weeks after international travel is not typical of a simple digestive problem. A parasite is possible, but other causes such as malaria, typhoid relapse, amoebiasis, viral infections, or other travel-related infections should also be considered. You should see an infectious disease specialist and get: • CBC, ESR, CRP • Malaria test (smear/rapid test) • Stool routine examination and ova/parasite test • Liver function tests • Blood cultures if fever recurs Do not continue ivermectin or herbal antiparasitic products indefinitely without a confirmed diagnosis. Take • Guduchi Satva – 500 mg twice daily. • Sanjivani Vati – 1 tablet twice daily after food. • Kutajghan Vati – 2 tablets twice daily if loose stools occur. Diet: Light food, rice gruel, moong soup, adequate fluids.

Recurrent high fevers (up to 104°F / 40°C) every 2–3 weeks for several months are not typical of a simple intestinal parasite. –The pattern of severe fatigue preceding the fever suggests an ongoing infection or inflammatory process. –Lung pain during one episode and abdominal pain during another suggests something affecting more than just the intestines. –Travel to India is relevant, but many travel-related illnesses are not parasitic. -----Rx: 1) Tab. Guduchi Ghana Vati – 2 tabs BD after food × 4 weeks 2) Tab. Sanjivani Vati – 1 tab BD after food × 14 days 3) Tab. Sudarshan Ghan Vati – 2 tabs BD after food × 2 weeks —Investigations: CBC, ESR, CRP Malaria test (smear + antigen) LFT, KFT Blood culture Stool routine & ova/parasite examination —Diet: Light warm meals, moong soup, rice gruel, warm water. Avoid fried, heavy, cold foods. —Advice: Recurrent fever up to 104°F requires urgent medical evaluation to rule out malaria, typhoid, parasitic infection, and other serious illnesses. Ayurveda should be supportive until diagnosis is confirmed.

••Urgent Western Medical Concerns (Rule Out Immediately) Because you traveled to India and are experiencing a cyclical fever (returning every few weeks), a Western physician will immediately want to rule out specific tropical pathogens. Even though you didn’t eat meat, waterborne, vector-borne (mosquitoes), and dairy-borne pathogens are highly prevalent. ••Malaria: Certain strains of malaria (like Plasmodium vivax) can hide in the liver and cause severe, high fevers that return in precise cycles weeks or months after exposure. It can cause profound fatigue and organ stress. ••Typhoid Fever (Salmonella typhi): Contracted through contaminated food or water (completely independent of meat consumption). It causes high fevers, severe abdominal pain, fatigue, and can cause respiratory symptoms (like your lung pain). It can linger or relapse if untreated. ••Amoebiasis or Giardiasis (Protozoan Parasites): While you suspect a parasite, intestinal parasites usually cause localized GI symptoms. However, systemic amoebiasis can migrate to other organs (like the liver or lungs), causing severe cyclic immune responses. ••Brucellosis: Often contracted from unpasteurized dairy products. It is famous for causing “undulant fever”—a fever that goes up and down, recurring over months, accompanied by extreme fatigue and joint/muscle pain. 2. The Ayurvedic Perspective: Visham Jvara In Ayurveda, your condition perfectly aligns with a presentation called Visham Jvara (Intermittent/Recurrent Fever), specifically showing signs of migrating doshas affecting deeper Dhatus (tissues). When you initially contracted the infection in February, the body’s digestive fire (Agni) was severely compromised, leading to the accumulation of toxic metabolic waste (Ama). ••Why the Symptoms Change Each Time In Visham Jvara, the vitiated Doshas (primarily Pitta and Vata in your case) hide in the deeper tissues and manifest periodically. The Lung and Stomach Pain: The circulating toxins (Ama) and aggravated doshas are migrating. When they lodged in your Pranavaha Srotas (respiratory channels), your lungs hurt. When they shifted to your Annavaha Srotas (digestive channels), your stomach hurt. ••The 104°F Fever & Red, Dry Eyelids: This indicates a massive, acute flare-up of Tejas/Pitta (fire element) burning out your Ojas (vital immunity). The eyes and eyelids are the primary seat of Pitta (Alochaka Pitta). High Pitta causes intense inflammation, redness, and subsequent dryness. The Danger of Aggressive Fasting and Oils While fasting (Langhana) is a premier Ayurvedic treatment for the initial stages of a fresh fever to burn off Ama, repeatedly fasting during chronic, high, cyclical fevers will deplete your tissue vitality (Ojas) and severely aggravate Vata dosha. This is likely why your fatigue starts days before the fever—your body is running on empty. Furthermore, hot, piercing herbs like oregano and wormwood, combined with enemas, act as highly drying, irritating agents that can further inflame your Pitta and destabilize Vata. Recommended Next Steps 1. Medical Testing (Highest Priority) Go to an urgent care clinic, hospital, or infectious disease specialist and explicitly state: “I traveled to India in February, and I am running a cyclical fever that reaches 104°F every 2–3 weeks.” Request the following tests: ••Complete Blood Count (CBC) to check white blood cell counts. ••Blood Smear and PCR for Malaria. ••Widal Test or Typhidot (for Typhoid). ••Blood and Stool Cultures (to look for bacterial and protozoan pathogens). 2. Immediate Supportive Ayurvedic Care (To Support, Not Cure) While you await medical testing, you must stop depleting your body. Switch from harsh fasting to Santarpan (nourishing yet easily digestible) therapies: ••Stop the Parasite Protocol: Cease the ivermectin, oregano, black walnut, and wormwood immediately to let your gut lining rest. ••Hydrate with Shadanga Paniya: Drink water boiled with a little bit of dry ginger and coriander seeds, cooled to room temperature. This balances Agni without spiking Pitta. ••Eat Manda or Peya: Instead of total fasting, consume the thin water strained from well-cooked split mung dal and white basmati rice. It provides glucose to your brain and heart without taxing your digestion. Rest: Absolute physical and mental rest is required. Your immune system is exhausted.

Your symptoms strongly points towards Visham Jvara (Intermittent/recurring fever) with underlying Krimi (parasitic/microbial infection) and accumulated Ama (toxins) disrupting the Jvarashthana (digestive fire and plasma channels). 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇 Your practice of fasting ( helps digest the Ama and temporarily brings the fever down, but here is required to completely eradicate the root cause, clear the channels, and restore immune strength (Ojas). 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇 1) Amruthotharam Kashayam - 15 ml mix with 60 ml lukewarm water twice a day on empty stomach around 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. 2) Vilangadi Kashayam- 15 ml mix with 60 ml lukewarm water twice a day before food and also can be taken along side with amruthotharam kashaya 3) Sudarshanam Gulika -1 tab twice a day after food with you from water 4) Vilwadi Gulika-1 tab twice a day after food with you from water 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇

Hello I can understand your concern And thank you for sharing a detailed history Your symptoms are severe and worth considering a prompt medical evaluation as you have recurring fever for months 🔹Can this be due to parasite? Yes there is possibility of parasite infection as -It started after travelling to india -Severe diarrhoea shortly as you reached home -also experiencing fatigue and gastric symptoms 🔹But… Parasite is not only the possibility there are some other potential causes also like -Malaria ( some variant is recurring ) -Typhoid fever -Chronic bacterial infection -viral infection 🔹As you have mentioned in one episode you had severe lung issues and in other you had abdominal symptoms this suggest a thorough check up is must 🔹Necessary test -CBC -Liver function test -Kidney function test -ESR and CRP -Blood culture -Peripheral Blood smear -Malaria test -typhoid and dengue -Stool Examination for ova and parasites 🔹**About ivermectin and herbal antiseptic oils Please avoid self treating This can cause -Gastric irritation -can make symptoms worse Hope this helped you😊 Wishing you a good health 😊 Warm Regards Dr Snehal Vidhate
