This looks mainly like peri-menopausal Vata aggravation with mild ama and possible early neuropathy. Also check Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D once, along with repeat thyroid after 2–3 months. Your plan is mostly good. Simple gentle regimen for 1 month Avipattikar Churna 1/2 tsp at bedtime with warm water instead of before meals Triphala Churna 1 tsp at bedtime only if BM still irregular. Avoid taking both together daily initially. Guduchi Satva 500 mg twice daily after food for ANA / immunity balance Shatavari Churna 1 tsp with warm milk at night for hormonal transition and Vata-Pitta balance Saraswatarishta 15 ml + equal water after dinner for overthinking and sleep Musta Churna 1/2 tsp before lunch and dinner for mild ama pachana For numbness Daily sesame oil foot massage before sleep Gentle stretching and walking Avoid sleeping directly under fan/AC Instead of strong virechana now, prefer mild daily anulomana only. Diet Warm cooked foods Reduce curd at night, excess oats, dry foods Add 1 tsp ghee daily Continue raisins/prunes; add soaked black raisins at night
Thanks for the suggestions. Here are my current symptoms: 1. Numbness in fingers when sleeping ( may happen in one hand but its not consistent) 2. Slight tingling in big toe on left foot felt during the day 3. Some varicose veins ( no pain ) 4. Last period was after 4months but lasted 10 to 12 days with heavy bleeding for 3 days in between and then it was moderate bleeding 5. Last bloodwork showed slightly elevated ANA tier 6. I have regular BM if I take Sukumara kwatham ( 2 tabs at lunch ) or Triphala ( 2 tabs at night). Otherwise, I may skip a day here and there. 7. There is a white coating in the back area of the tongue in the mornings. I am considering: 1. Guduchi Sattwa for 3 months 2. Musta 1/2 tsp with dry ginger before meals 3. Kaisoru guggulu ( 2 to 3 tabs a day) for varicose veins. 4. Dhanwantra tailam for fingers and toes numbing 5. Shatavari gulam after lunch for hormonal support 6. Should I continue sukumara kwath? 7. What about manjistadi kashayam instead of Kaishoru guguglu Can you please review and give me a combined protocol for all these symptoms without overloading on medicines.
Hello, In the Ayurvedic view, this 51-year-old female is transitioning through Rajonivrutti (Menopause), a Vata-dominant stage of life. The numbness (Supti) and elevated ANA titer suggest Vata-Vyanu disturbance and Dhatu Shithilata (tissue depletion) due to declining hormones (Artava Kshaya). The presence of Ama (toxins) is hindering the Srotas (channels), leading to irregular bowel movements and circulatory blockages. The goal is to clear the channels (Srotasodhana), ground the Vata, and provide Rasayana (rejuvenative) support. Prescription : 1. Management of Numbness & Circulation The numbness is likely a combination of Vata aggravation and perimenopausal hormonal shifts. Arjunasavam is good for heart health, but for peripheral circulation and nerve strength, Dhanwantharam preparations are superior. Recommendation: Dhanwantharam Kashayam. Dose: 15 ml kashayam with 45 ml lukewarm water, twice daily before food. 2. Hormonal Support & Vata Balance Shatavari is excellent for cooling Pitta and supporting estrogen levels. Since she has a Kapha prakriti and slight Ama, taking it with milk is fine, but adding a touch of ginger can prevent heaviness. Recommendation: Shatavari Gulam, This is a traditional jaggery-based confection better suited for menopause than plain powder. Dose: 10 grams twice daily after food. 3. Ama Pachana & Regulating BM Instead of a heavy daily virechan with Avipattikar (which is more for Pitta/Acidity), a combination that addresses both Ama and Vata-type constipation is needed. Recommendation: Abhayarishtam. Dose (Abhayarishtam): 25 ml with equal water at bedtime to clear Ama and ensure morning regularity. 4. ANA Titer & Overthinking (Mental Health) Guduchi is the best choice for the ANA titer as it is an Amrita (immunomodulator). For the mind, Saraswatarishtam is the gold standard for menopausal anxiety and overthinking. Recommendation: Saraswatarishtam Dose: 20 ml with equal water after lunch. Guduchi: Can be taken as Samshamani Vati (2 tablets twice daily). Refining Your Proposed Month Regime Virechan: Swap the Avipattikar/Triphala combo for Manjishtadi Kwath if you want to focus on ANA/Blood, or stick to Triphala Churnam (1 tsp) with warm water at night for simpler bowel management. Panchakola Churna: Excellent for Ama. Use 1-2 grams mixed with the first morsel of food with a little ghee to kindle Agni without aggravating Vata. Numbness (External): Apply Dhanwantharam Thailam (mildly warmed) to fingers and toes before bath. This is often more effective for “dormant” numbness than internal medicine alone. Prescription summary : 1. Dhanwantharam Kashayam: 15 ml + 45 ml water, twice daily before food (for numbness). 2. Saraswatarishtam: 20 ml with water after food (for mind/hormones). 3. Abhayarishtam: 25 ml with water at bedtime (for Ama and BM). 4. Shatavari Gulam: 1 tsp twice daily (for hormonal support).

Your plan is broadly thoughtful, but in menopause-related Vata aggravation with mild hypothyroid tendency, constipation + numbness + anxiety + ANA elevation, the approach should be very gentle and not over-cleansing. Excess “virechan” or multiple strong formulations together can actually worsen Vata and increase numbness, sleep disturbance, and fatigue. Key correction first This is mainly Vata imbalance + hormonal transition + mild neuropathic tendency, not a “toxicity-only” picture So priority = nourish + lubricate + regulate bowels + calm nerves About your current ideas 1. Virechan daily (Avipattikar before meals + Triphala after meals) Not advisable. This is too frequent and can dry the gut further → worsens constipation and numbness. Instead: Avipattikar can be used only if acidity is present Triphala is fine but only at night (not after meals) 2. Ama pachana (Musta / Haritaki / Panchalavan) Musta + Haritaki is OK but mild dosing only Panchalavan is more for digestion stimulation, not for long-term daily use in Vata dominance Better approach: Musta alone or with ginger in mild form is safer 3. Arjunarishta (Arjunasavam) Good for circulation support, but not primary for numbness Can be continued if heart palpitations or vascular weakness exists 4. BM irregularity (main issue here) Your current approach is too “fiber-heavy” for Vata constipation Better: Warm water on waking + 1 tsp ghee Soaked raisins + 1–2 figs (not excess chia daily) 5. ANA elevation + Guduchi Guduchi is fine but keep it low dose and monitored, especially in autoimmune tendency 6. Saraswatarishta for overthinking Good choice, suitable for menopausal anxiety + sleep disturbance 7. Shatavari with milk Yes, this is actually one of the most suitable supports here If numbness improved after it, it suggests neuro-hormonal support response Safer 1-month Ayurvedic approach Morning Warm water + 1 tsp ghee Ashwagandha capsule – 1 capsule Night Shatavari powder – 1 tsp with warm milk Saraswatarishta – 15 ml with equal water after dinner Triphala – 1 tablet only at bedtime (not multiple times/day) For circulation & numbness Dashmool taila gentle massage on feet/hands before sleep Warm foot soak 3–4 times/week Important clinical note Since there is: ANA elevation numbness recurrence borderline TSH It is important to rule out early autoimmune or thyroid-linked neuropathy + B12 deficiency if not already done. Bottom line Yes, Ayurveda can support this well, but: avoid over-detox / frequent purgation focus on nourishment + Vata calming + sleep + gentle circulation support Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)
Hello Dr Raghuveer,

You’ve outlined a thoughtful plan, and I can see you’re aiming for a gentle, supportive regime during this menopausal transition with Vata aggravation, mild Ama, and circulation issues. Let me walk through your ideas step by step, highlighting strengths and where adjustments may help: 🌿 1. Virechana (Gentle Cleansing) -Avipattikar + Triphala: Both are mild, safe choices for daily use. -Instead of daily virechana (which can weaken Agni if overdone), consider alternate-day Triphala at night and Avipattikar only when acidity or heaviness is present. -Other gentle options: Trivrit lehya (small dose) or Castor oil in warm milk once weekly for deeper but controlled cleansing. 🔥 2. Ama Pachana -Musta + Haritaki: Good for digestion and light Ama. -Panchaloka churna is stronger; use cautiously, ideally under guidance. -Simpler daily support: Hingvastak churna (¼ tsp after meals) to reduce gas and Ama without over-cleansing. ❤️ 3. Circulation & Numbness -Arjunarishtam: Excellent for circulation and mild cardiac support. -Add warm sesame oil foot massage (Padabhyanga) before bed to improve peripheral circulation and reduce numbness. -Gentle yoga: Pawanmuktasana series and Viparita Karani help circulation. 🌸 4. Hormonal & Emotional Support -Shatavari with warm milk at night: Very appropriate for Vata aggravation and menopausal transition. -Sarawatarishtam: Can help with mood swings and overthinking, but keep dose low (5–10 ml with water). 🍇 5. Bowel Regularity -Raisins, prunes, chia are good, but if not sufficient: -Soak 5–7 black raisins overnight, eat in morning. -Warm water with ghee (½ tsp) at bedtime helps soften stools. -Avoid skipping meals; keep routine steady. 🧘 Lifestyle Anchors -Maintain early bedtime and wake-up (already good). -Add Nadi Shodhana pranayama before sleep to calm overthinking. -Keep meals warm, light, and freshly cooked. -Avoid excess raw foods and cold drinks (increase Vata).
