For a 12-year-old child with chronic constipation, giving half tablet of Kayam occasionally may help for temporary relief, but it should not be used regularly especially in children with autism. Kayam tablets contain strong laxative ingredients that may cause abdominal cramps, dependency, dehydration, or weakening of natural bowel movements if used frequently. In Ayurveda, this condition is usually related to Vata imbalance and dry bowel (Pakwashaya Vata dushti). You can follow these gentle and safer Ayurvedic measures: Give 1–2 tsp cow ghee in warm milk at bedtime regularly. Increase natural fiber: soaked black raisins figs (anjeer) papaya ripe banana oats and vegetables Encourage warm water intake throughout the day instead of cold water. At bedtime, Triphala churna ¼–½ tsp with warm water can be helpful Daily abdominal massage with warm sesame oil in clockwise direction may improve bowel movement. Regular toilet timing after breakfast helps train the bowel. Avoid: Excess bakery foods, packaged snacks, cheese, cold drinks, and very dry foods.
