Namaskaram, ----Arthrosis (osteoarthritis) and a geode in the pelvis usually indicate degeneration of the joint and surrounding bone tissue. In Ayurveda, this is commonly associated with aggravated Vata affecting the bones and joints. ----Ayurvedic Management –Internal Medicines 1) Yogaraj Guggulu – 2 tablets twice daily after meals with warm water. 2) Shallaki Capsules – 1 capsule twice daily after meals. 3) Ashwagandha Churna – 3 grams twice daily with warm milk, if digestion permits. 4) Dashamoola Kwath – 20 ml mixed with equal quantity of warm water, twice daily before meals. -----Diet Advice –Recommended Foods Warm, freshly cooked meals. Mung dal soup, vegetable soups, and stews. Cooked vegetables such as pumpkin, carrots, squash, and sweet potato. Sesame seeds, soaked almonds, and moderate use of cow’s ghee. Turmeric, ginger, cumin, and coriander in daily cooking. -----Milk and Dairy Warm milk may be taken if it is well tolerated and digested. Add a pinch of turmeric or dry ginger to improve digestion. Limit aged and hard cheeses, as they may aggravate inflammation in some individuals. Fresh cheese may be taken occasionally in small quantities. ----Avoid Cold foods and cold drinks. Excess sugar and processed foods. Deep-fried and packaged foods. Excess red meat and alcohol. -----Lifestyle Recommendations Gentle daily exercise such as walking, yoga, or swimming. Avoid prolonged sitting. Daily warm sesame oil massage over the lower back, hips, and legs may help reduce stiffness and support joint health. Maintain a healthy body weight to reduce stress on the pelvic joints. -----Please note that Ayurvedic treatment can help reduce pain, stiffness, and improve mobility, but regular follow-up with an orthopedic specialist is also advised to monitor the underlying joint condition. 🙏 Wishing you improved joint health and comfort.
••Namaskaram. In Ayurveda, arthrosis (osteoarthritis) and the formation of geodes (subchondral bone cysts) in the pelvis are understood through the framework of Sandhigata Vata (Vata localized in the joints) deeply affecting the Asthi Dhatu (bone tissue) and Majja Dhatu (bone marrow tissue). •When Vata dosha increases, it causes Kshaya (depletion or wearing away) of the cartilage and fluid (Shleshmaka Kapha) in the pelvic joint. The development of geodes—hollow spaces or cysts in the bone—indicates that the high Vata has caused further porosity and space within the bone tissue itself. •To manage this, our main goals are to calm the hyperactive Vata, lubricate the joints from within, and provide deep nutrition to the bones. 🌿 Potent Ayurvedic Herbs for Bone & Joint Support •For a condition involving both cartilage wear and structural changes like geodes, you need herbs that are Balya (strengthening), Asthi-Majja Dhatu Poshak (nourishing to bone and marrow), and anti-inflammatory. ••Shallaki (Boswellia serrata): A premier herb for joint health. It directly reduces inflammation, improves blood supply to the joint structures, and helps prevent further degradation of the cartilage. ••Guggulu Formulations: Guggulu acts as a powerful carrier (Yogavahi) that delivers herbs directly to the deep tissues. Specifically: ••Lakshadi Guggulu or Yogaraj Guggulu are highly beneficial here. Laksha (lac) helps heal bone tissues, while Yogaraj helps clear Vata from the channels. ••Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera): A powerful adaptogen and tissue-builder. It provides the essential strength (Bala) to the pelvic muscles and ligaments supporting the worn joint, and pacifies Vata. ••Hadajod / Asthisamharaka (Cissus quadrangularis): Literally translating to “bone setter,” this herb accelerates bone healing and helps improve the mineral density and structural integrity of the bone, which is highly relevant when geodes are present. 🥛 Dietary Guidelines: The Milk and Cheese Question ••Because Vata is dry, cold, and rough, your diet must be Snigdha (unctuous/lubricating), Ushna (warm), and Guru (nourishing). Can you consume Milk and Cheese? Yes to High-Quality Milk, but Caution with Hard Cheese. ••Milk (A2 Cow’s Milk): In Ayurveda, warm milk is considered an exceptional tonic (Rasayana) for Asthi Dhatu (bones). It is naturally sweet, cooling, and pacifies Vata. How to take it: Always drink it warm. Boil it with a pinch of Turmeric and a pinch of Dry Ginger (Sunthi) or Ashwagandha powder. Adding a teaspoon of Ghee to your warm milk creates a perfect vehicle to lubricate the pelvic joint from the inside out. ••Cheese: Modern, highly processed, cold, or hard aged cheeses are heavy to digest (Guru) and can cause Abhishyandi (blocking of the bodily channels), which can inadvertently aggravate Vata pain. However, fresh, soft, unaged cheeses like Paneer or fresh cottage cheese are acceptable in moderation, provided they are cooked with warming spices like cumin or black pepper and eaten warm. External Therapies (Bahya Chikitsa) Diet and herbs work internally, but because the pelvis is the primary seat (Sthana) of Vata dosha, external therapies are highly effective: ••Matra Basti (Oil Enema): This is often considered the most direct treatment for pelvic Vata issues. Administering medicated oils (like Sahacharadi Tailam or Erandadi Tailam) rectally bypasses digestion to immediately nourish the colon and pelvic bones. ••Sthanika Abhyanga & Janu/Kati Basti: Gently massaging the lower back, hips, and pelvic region with warm Ksheerabala Tailam, Mahanarayan Tailam, or Dhanwantaram Tailam, followed by mild steam (Swedana), helps deeply penetrate the joint space to relieve stiffness and pain.
