Dr. Suma
Experience: | 15 years |
Education: | MS- SHALAKYATANTRA |
Academic degree: | Master of Surgery in Ayurveda |
Area of specialization: | I am specialized in Ayurveda management of Eye and ENT disorders, mainly conditions above the clavicle that tend to linger and affect daily life more then people expect. My work includes supportive care for Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinitis Pigmentosa, refractive errors, and Glaucoma, where the goal is to slow progression and preserve function as much as possible. I also treat hearing difficulties, vocal cord dysfunction, chronic rhino sinusitis, and trigeminal neuralgia, which can be quite distressing if not handled patiently
I regularly perform classical procedures like Agnikarma, Ksharakarma and Jaloukavacharana, selecting them carefully based on the patient’s prakriti and disease stage. These therapies are not one-time fixes, they require monitoring and adjustments, and sometimes progress feels slow but meaningful. I try to explain every step, though medical terms can sound a bit confuzing at first!
My approach is individualized, blending traditional Shalakya Tantra principles with practical lifestyle guidance, becuase long-term relief usually depends on both treatment and daily habits. Each case is different, and honestly that unpredictablity keeps me alert and constantly learning. |
Achievements: | I am involved in a study on integrative management of Diabetic Retinopathy, exploring how Ayurvedic principles can support conventional care in slowing disease progression and preserving vision. This work focuses on practical outcomes rather then theory alone, since patients often arrive when damage has already begun. The research process is detailed, sometimes a bit slow, but it helps refine treatment choices and long-term strategies for real people, not just textbooks. I feel it adds meaningfull direction to my clinical practice even if many questions still remain!! |
I am an Associate Professor and Senior Consultant in Shalakya Tantra, working closely with disorders of the eye, ear, nose, throat, and related head & neck conditions. Over the years I have trained students while also managing patients who come with everything from chronic sinus issues to delicate ophthalmic concerns, and sometimes the cases are more complicated then they first appear. My clinical focus is rooted in classical Ayurvedic principles of Shalakya Tantra, yet I try to keep the approach practical and patient-centered, because theory alone doesnt help when someone is in real discomfort. In my academic role, I teach future practitioners the detailed diagnostic methods, surgical concepts, and therapeutic procedures described in Ayurveda, while also encouraging them to think critically and observe carefully. Many patients arrive after long periods of suffering, unsure what will actually work, and I feel responsible not just to treat but to guide them through the process, even when progress is slow or uneven As a consultant, I routinely handle conditions involving vision problems, ear disorders, nasal blockage, throat infections, and other supraclavicular diseases. My aim is always precise assessment followed by individualized treatment plans, rather than one-size-fits-all remedies. I belive good outcomes come from consistency, patient education, and trust, not quick fixes!! I try to maintain a calm, approachable manner in clinic, though busy days can be a bit overwhelming at times, and I may pause to double-check details because accuracy matters more than speed. Ultimately, my work combines teaching, clinical care, and ongoing learning — a balance that keeps me grounded and constantly improving, even after many years in practice.
