How Do I Verify the Authenticity of a BAMS Degree Certificate? - #1798

Anonymously

I’m considering seeing an Ayurvedic doctor, and I’ve come across a few practitioners who mention they have a BAMS degree. However, I’m a little unsure about the authenticity of some certifications. I understand that the BAMS degree certificate is crucial for practicing Ayurveda professionally, but I’ve seen a lot of images of such certificates online, and I’m not sure if they are genuine. One particular doctor claims to have a BAMS qualification, but the certificate image seems a bit unclear and doesn’t look very official. I’m concerned because I want to ensure that the doctor I choose has proper qualifications before trusting them with my health. Does anyone know how I can verify the validity of a BAMS degree certificate in Ayurveda? Is it possible to verify it online or through the relevant Ayurvedic boards or universities? Also, do I need to ask the doctor for more proof beyond just the certificate? Any advice on how to approach this situation would be really helpful, as I want to make sure I’m receiving professional and certified care.

It's good that you're being cautious and looking into the qualifications of Ayurvedic practitioners before seeking treatment. To verify the authenticity of a BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) degree, there are a few steps you can take: Check with the Ayurvedic Board: In India, BAMS-qualified practitioners are registered with the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) or the State Ayurvedic Medicine Boards. You can visit their websites or contact them to verify if the doctor is registered with the relevant body. You may need the practitioner’s full name and registration number. Contact the University: If you're able to find out where the doctor completed their BAMS degree, you can contact the university directly (if it’s based in India) to confirm whether the degree is valid. Most universities have online verification processes. Look for Additional Certifications: Aside from the BAMS degree, Ayurvedic doctors may have additional certifications or training, such as MD Ayurveda (Doctor of Medicine) or specialization in certain areas. This can give you more confidence in their expertise. Ask for the Registration Number: The BAMS degree alone is important, but an official registration number from a recognized Ayurvedic board proves that the practitioner is licensed to practice legally. You can ask the doctor directly for this number and verify it. Patient Reviews and Referrals: Look for reviews from other patients who have visited the same doctor. Word-of-mouth referrals or feedback can be useful in gauging the authenticity of their practices. Clear and Official Certificates: Be cautious of unclear or suspicious images of certificates. Authentic certificates typically have clear and readable text, stamps, and signatures. If the certificate image seems dubious, it’s okay to ask for a physical copy or further clarification. By following these steps, you can ensure that the Ayurvedic doctor you're considering has the necessary qualifications and is legally registered to practice Ayurveda. It’s important to prioritize your health and feel confident in the credentials of your healthcare provider
