Ayurvedic medicine and supplement combination for Acid reflux - #34450
I am currently using Maharishi ayurveda amlant, dizo map and gut health tablets for acid reflux problem. I am taking this based on a vaidhya's recommendition a couple of months ago. I was advised to take 2 amlant tablets before breakfast and dinner, 2 dizo map tablets after break fast and dinner (although i dont have any constipation) and 2 gut health tablets before sleep. My questions are: 1. Can i discontinue dizo map tablet because i dont have any constipation problem? 2.If so, should i take amlant after meal instead of before meal? 3. Can i take Amla tablets in the morning along with Amlant and Gut health tablets as described above?

Doctors' responses
If you do not have constipation/ bloating you can discontinue it not an issue Continue amlant tab as before no need to chat Instead of Amla tab you can go with fresh Amla juice on empty stomach
Thanks, doctor Prasad. Should I consume Amlant after or before meal? I am asking because the general recommendation seems to be after meal.
If you have any symptoms like burning/acidity / discomfort then take before meals- it prevents from acid production If no symptoms, you are comfortable, then take after meals which helps in neutralising the acid
Discontinuing the dizo map tablet might be possible, especially if you don’t have constipation, but it’s crucial to discuss this with your Vaidya who has the complete understanding of your condition. They can consider any other potential digestive imbalances or digestive fire aspects that might have contributed to that recommendation. Its effects can sometimes extend beyond just relieving constipation and could support digestion in other ways.
Amlant tablets are typically best taken before a meal to coat the stomach lining, reduce acidity and aid in digestion. This allows active ingredients to form a protective barrier, potentially calming down hyperacidity by the time you eat. Therefore, shifting them to after meals may not be ideal in preventing acid reflux.
Taking Amla tablets along with Amlant and Gut health tablets in the morning can be beneficial. Amla supports digestion, rejuvenates the body, and balances the Pitta dosha, which is often aggravated in acid reflux. It should be taken with caution, particularly if you experience any discomfort or reaction or if you’re on other supplements. Start with a lower dose combining them, and if needed, adjust based on your body’s response.
Consider incorporating supportive lifestyle practices as well, aiming for a balanced diet, with reduced intake of spicy, oily, and processed foods. including small sips of warm water throughout the day can be soothing for the digestive tract, and help in maintaining Agni (digestive fire). Regular meals at consistent times contribute to regulating digestion and avoiding late-night eating can also be beneficial for acid reflux symptoms. Again, please ensure this transition is guided by a healthcare professional familiar with your specific health status.
Given your current situation, a few considerations can help refine your approach. Yes, you can generally discontinue Dizo Map if constipation isn’t an issue. Dizo Map is often recommended for those with sluggish digestion or elimination concerns, but if your elimination is regular, it’s not necessary. Yet, do confer with your vaidhya since they’ve observed your overall health context.
As for Amlant, continuing to take it before meals is beneficial. It’s designed to manage acid reflux by balancing digestive acids before digestion gets underway. Taking it after meals might not provide the same proactive buffering action against acidity.
Integrating Amla tablets in your morning routine is a good idea too. Amla, or Indian gooseberry, is renowned for aiding digestion and cooling Pitta, which is often responsible for excess acidity. It’s compatible with your current supplements, offering further support for your digestive fire and general gut health. Ensure you leave a gap between taking different tablets to aid absorption and efficacy.
Before making any new changes, consult your vaidhya or another qualified practitioner, especially for potential herb-herb or herb-drug interactions, always erring on the side of cautious personalized care.
