Aswin's udvarthana churna - #35117

Lucy

I am really confused and kinda worried about my recent health issues. For the last few months, I’ve been dealing with some weight gain and feeling bloated pretty much all the time. A friend suggested I try Aswin's udvarthana churna because she said it helped her sister lose weight and feel lighter. I've read a bit about it, and it seems like a good option since it’s supposed to help with digestion and metabolism. Anyway, I ordered it online, and yesterday was my first day using it. I had that slight taste of spices, which was fine, but I didn’t expect to feel, well, a bit off later in the day. Should I expect that? I did have to take a bathroom break more than usual, but I read that it can be a sign of detoxing? Is that common with Aswin's udvarthana churna? Just to give you some more context, I haven’t really changed my diet much, still eating junk sometimes but trying to include veggies when I can. My energy levels are all over the place too—some days I feel okay, and others I’m just drained. Is there something I should consider while using this churna? Like, should I be taking it at a specific time or with a certain kind of food? Any advice would be SUPER helpful!

Feeling bloated and experiencing weight gain can be unsettling, and turning to something like Aswin’s udvarthana churna can feel promising but also confusing, especially if you’re not sure what to expect. The blend is often used in Ayurveda as an external application for helping break down fatty tissues and improve circulation but it sounds like you are consuming it orally based on the taste you mentioned. It’s important to note if that’s the case, because oral consumption isn’t typical for udvarthana, which is usually used in dry powder massage to stimulate metabolism and reduce localized fat deposits.

Regarding your experience feeling ‘off’ and needing more frequent bathroom breaks, changes in digestion and elimination can occur when introducing new Ayurvedic products into your regimen. However, detox effects shouldn’t be too intense. If the symptoms persist or seem severe, it may be necessary to reassess or discontinue use, at least temporarily, and consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner.

What could help amplify the effects of udvarthana churna include moderation in diet. While it’s commendable that you’ve begun incorporating vegetables, reducing the intake of junk food is essential for balancing your digestive fire, or agni, which is often disturbed by processed and heavy foods. Focus on light, warm meals like soups and stews that are easy to digest and enhance metabolic function.

Timing can play a crucial role in maximizing benefits. If orally consuming the churna, take it on an empty stomach in the morning, which can support morning metabolism and digestion. However, if you’re using it for an external massage, best time is either in the morning or when you’re relaxed and not rushed for post-massage cleansing routine.

Additionally, ensure hydration as the body’s need for water increases with detox processes. Regular physical activity tailored to your comfort and energy levels, like gentle yoga or walks, can also contribute positively. Observing your body’s response is key; don’t hesitate to seek direct advice from a specialist if you feel your symptoms require more direct attention.

Based on what you’re describing, it’s not unusual for herbal formulations like Aswin’s udvarthana churna to cause digestive changes initially, as your body starts to adjust. The churna is often used in Ayurveda as a powder for external application to help with weight loss, stimulate circulation, enhance metabolism, and may aid in balancing the doshas, particularly kapha. However, the sensations you experienced could be due to the churna stimulating the digestive fire (agni) and beginning a detoxification process.

One important point to consider is that this churna is generally meant for external use, being applied as a dry powder massage (Udvartana) to the skin rather than ingestion. There could be some confusion here. Instead of consuming it, you might see benefits from using it topically; apply the powder on your skin in circular motions to stimulate circulation and assist with lymphatic drainage and detoxification.

Your current dietary habits like consuming junk food could also be contributing to your feelings of bloating and low energy, as processed foods tend to imbalance the doshas and weaken agni. If possible, prioritizing freshly cooked meals with more vegetables and cutting down on processed foods may help when using Decrease Kapha-excess foods like oily and overly sweet dishes. It’s also useful to eat your main meal when your digestive fire is strongest, usually around midday.

If you’re seeing discomfort and digestive upset from taking the churna internally, it’s crucial to reassess the method you’re following. Not only should you ensure you’re using it appropriately, but consulting a qualified practitioner to personalize this remedy according to your specific doshic balance (prakriti) might be beneficial.

Since this involves specific application and recommendation, watch for any ongoing discomfort or unease, and it might be wise to temporarily halt its usage and check with medical advice. Your safety and well-being are the front-most importance, so advisably get in touch with a practitioner familiar with the formulation.
