Why You Experienced Gas and Heaviness 1️⃣ Sudden Increase in Fiber Seeds like flax, chia, and basil are very high in soluble fiber. When fiber suddenly increases: Gut bacteria ferment it Gas and bloating are produced Heaviness or pressure may occur Even a small quantity can cause symptoms if your body is not used to it. 2️⃣ Seeds Are “Cold and Heavy” in Nature (Ayurvedic View) In Ayurveda, many seeds have Guru (heavy) and Snigdha (oily) properties. This may lead to: Agni (digestive fire) weakening Gas formation Head heaviness Cold symptoms Especially if taken: On an empty stomach Without soaking Mixed together 3️⃣ Chia and Basil Seeds Absorb Water These seeds absorb 10–15 times their weight in water. If eaten dry or with insufficient water, they can cause: Gas Bloating Digestive discomfort Should You Restart Them? Yes — but in a better way. Correct Method ✔ Start with only one seed at a time ✔ Use very small amount Example plan: Week 1 ½ tsp flax seeds (roasted and powdered) after lunch Week 2 Add 2–3 soaked pumpkin seeds Week 3 Add 2–3 sunflower seeds Chia or basil seeds Only ½ tsp soaked in water Avoid taking all seeds together initially. Tips to Prevent Gas ✔ Roast flax seeds before eating ✔ Always soak chia/basil seeds ✔ Take seeds after meals, not empty stomach ✔ Drink warm water ✔ Add a pinch of ajwain or ginger If Gas Happens Easily You may have mild Vata imbalance in digestion. Helpful Ayurvedic support: Hing + warm water Jeera-ajwain tea Trikatu churna (small pinch) after food ✅ Simple rule: Seeds are healthy, but too many varieties together disturb digestion.
