Namaste, Darkening of the neck and underarms in teenagers can sometimes be related to hormonal changes, friction, sweating, or metabolic factors. If it appeared recently, it is important to observe it and support healthy habits. Simple measures that may help: Maintain good hygiene and keep the area clean and dry. Avoid very tight clothing that causes friction in the neck and underarm area. Encourage a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Reduce excessive sugary foods, junk food, and sweetened drinks, as these can sometimes worsen skin pigmentation. Gentle application of natural moisturizers like aloe vera gel or coconut oil may help soothe the skin. If the darkening continues to increase or itching becomes severe, it is better to consult a doctor for proper evaluation. Ayurvedic medicines sometimes used to support skin health include: Manjistha – traditionally used to support skin purification and complexion. Khadirarishta – sometimes used to support skin health and detoxification. Consult me for more advice and suggestions on the above medicines.

Darkening of the neck and underarms, especially when the skin appears velvety or thick, can sometimes be a condition called Acanthosis Nigricans. This condition is commonly associated with insulin resistance, where the body’s cells do not respond properly to insulin. It is often seen in teenagers if BMI is on the higher side, belly fat is present, or if there are small skin tags/wart-like growths around the neck along with the dark, velvety skin. If these signs are present, it is advisable to get some tests done to check for metabolic imbalance, such as: • HbA1c • Lipid profile • HOMA-IR (to assess insulin resistance) If the reports suggest insulin resistance, then the main treatment is correcting diet and lifestyle, rather than only using creams. Helpful steps include: • Reducing sugar, refined flour, packaged foods, and excessive sweets • Increasing vegetables, whole grains, pulses, nuts, and high-fiber foods • Encouraging regular physical activity or sports daily • Maintaining a healthy weight and reducing belly fat For itching or skin care, mild moisturizers or dermatologist-recommended creams may help, but treating the underlying metabolic imbalance is most important. If the pigmentation appeared suddenly within less than a month, it would be best to consult a doctor for proper examination and tests, so the exact cause can be identified and managed early.

Hello, if your son is suddenly developing such symptoms we need to check on a few things before moving to topical solutions. Please check his FBS, PPBS, RBS, CBC, and thyroid function. if there is any abnormality in blood suger levels go for a HBA1C AS WELL AS c peptide test. Please mention his weight and height, as well as the normal diet and exercise routine he follows. It is important to clear up that your son is not starting to show insulin resistance In the meantime start Chandraprabha vati 1 tablet twice daily after food, and guduchyadi kashaya 15ml twice daily before food mixed with one kaisoraguggulu tablet with the kashaya. these will help clear up any blockage of srotas and prepares your sons metabolism better once topical and diet changes are started

1. External Application (Do NOT use chemical creams) Triphala & Besan Ubtan: Over-the-counter bleaching or steroid creams will severely aggravate the itching and damage the skin. Instead, make a paste of 1 teaspoon Triphala Churna, 1 teaspoon Besan (Gram Flour), and a little raw milk. Usage: Gently rub this paste on the dark areas 10 minutes before bathing. Triphala instantly soothes the itch (Kandughna) and acts as a safe, natural exfoliant to gradually scrape away the thickened, pigmented skin (Lekhana). 2. Internal Medicine (To target the root cause) Chandraprabha Vati: 1 tablet twice daily, after meals with warm water. ✓Crucial Dietary Rules (The Real Cure) Since he is on a vegetarian diet, his daily meals might unknowingly be very high in simple carbohydrates, which spike insulin levels and directly cause the skin to darken. ✓Strictly Avoid: Refined wheat (Maida), bakery items, packaged sugary drinks, white potatoes, and junk food. Include: High-protein and high-fiber vegetarian options like Moong Dal, paneer, chickpeas, and green leafy vegetables. ✓Exercise: Daily physical sweating (cardio or sports) is non-negotiable. It is the fastest, most effective way to improve his body’s insulin sensitivity and naturally fade the black marks from the inside out. Regards Dr Gursimran Jeet Singh MD Panchakarma
