Hi, I am 4 months into an Ayurvedic treatment for sibo (hydrogen and methane). My practitioner took me off birth control at the same time I began as I had been on it for 13 years to treat my pmdd. I had some relief for about 3 weeks, 2 and half months in. I was free of bloating 60% of the time. It didn’t last and now I am back suffering 90% again, been like this fonthe last 5 weeks. My pmdd was good my first two cycles but this last cycle the mood was very very low and unstable. I’m struggling to feel this is working for me. Is she the right practitioner for me? I don’t know whether to continue or not.

How would you describe the severity of your bloating?:

- Severe, constant discomfort

Have you noticed any specific triggers for your bloating?:

- No specific triggers

How has your overall energy level been since starting treatment?:

Your situation involves multiple overlapping factors like long term birth control use hormonal changes gut imbalance and mood symptoms When you stop a birth control that has been regulating your hormones for over a decade your body goes through a kind of hormonal recalibration and its common to see mood swings PMDD returning or digestive issues flaring On top of that SIBO itself can be stubborn especially if its both hydrogen and methane producing Four months is often not enough time for full resolution of chronic SIBO particularly if hormonal changes are also occurring Temporary relief for a few weeks followed by flare ups is not unusual and does not necessarily mean the treatment is wrong or the practitioner is not capable It can mean your body is still adjusting and may need modifications in treatment or supportive therapies like gut motility herbs dietary strategies and stress management The worsening of mood during your last cycle is also likely linked to your body adjusting hormonally after stopping birth control Take Evakalp tablet 1 tab twice daily after food Sathavari gulam 1 teaspoon twice daily after food with warm water Hinguvachadi gulika 1 twice daily after food Asoka aristha 10 ml twice daily after food Kumarasava 2 teaspoons at night after food Following this consistently will help your digestion improve your body absorb nutrients properly and gradually your health strengthen

Hello Yes i can understand your concern is very well valid You are all doing according to treatment but then also your symptoms relapsed, it clearly creates doubt about the practitioner and also about the treatment But dont worry we are here to help you out😊 ▪️for your understanding what must actually happen? ➖You are already having symptoms like severe bloating causing vata disturbance ➖And also methane and hydrogen causing fermentation ➖On other side you are on long term birth control this suppress the natural hormones ➖After suddenly stoping can cause suden vata disturbance So all this contributed to your present symptoms and condition ▪️Important to know What went wrong in your case is Starting of gut treatment and suddenly stoping of birth control was done at same time Too much change at same time This can lead to -Hormonal imbalance -Aggravated gut symptoms ▪️After 3 week of treatment you felt better that means you responded well to the treatment Just sudden hormonal imbalance aggravated the condition again ▪️About your treatment ➖Your treatment is correct but it is not good to make too much changes at same time ➖I also felt that your treatment is focusing just on your gut not on PMDD ▪️Safe Ayurvedic approach Balancing both the conditions ➖Step 1 = balancing your vata -Have regular meals -weekly once do oil massage with coconut or sesame oil ➖Simple gut treatment Dont go for any strong detox Focus on mild herbs -Hinguvachadi gullika 2 tablets just before lunch Buttermilk with roasted jeera after lunch ➖for hormonal balance Start taking Shatavari kalpa 1 tsp with warm milk. After breakfast ▪️lifestyle tips -do regular pranayama and yoga -manage stress Actually you need a integrative approach focusing both on your SIBO and PMDD If any doubt be free to approach Wishing you a good health😊 Warm Regards Dr Snehal Vidhate

This is very helpful. And yes I suspect it was touch much all at once. She has me taking shatavari,-ashvagandhadee, kaishora, gokshuradee and now pushyanguga. I had a syrup and some oil to rub on my tummy too. I will wait for the 6 month mark if still no relief I will try a new practicioner. Appreciate your feedback it’s helped!

Glad my answer helped you My advice to you is to wait for more 3 months you should feel gradual improvement If not then change your practitioner

Hi, I truly understand your situation—it’s frustrating when symptoms come back after some relief. Based on your case (SIBO + PMDD + fatigue), I’ll suggest a general Ayurvedic line of treatment that many of us BAMS doctors follow. Please note, this is a supportive plan. I am adding some Ayurvedic medicines below that you can consider incorporating, preferably after discussing with your practitioner or a qualified Ayurvedic doctor: For Agni (Digestion) & SIBO-type symptoms: - Agnitundi Vati – 1 tab before meals - Hingwashtak Churna – ½ tsp with warm water after meals For Ama & Gut cleansing: - Triphala Churna – ½–1 tsp at night For Vata balance (bloating + gut motility): - Dashmoolarishta – 15–20 ml with equal water after meals For PMDD (mood + hormonal support): - Ashokarishta – 15–20 ml after meals - Shatavari (Churna/Capsule) – once or twice daily - Brahmi Vati pearls capsule – for mood stability and calmness For Energy & recovery: - Ashwagandha lehyam – at night with warm milk

🛒 Regarding purchase: You can buy these medicines from as i mentioned it.Its all are trusted brands. -These Products are authentic and well-sealed - Purchased from a reliable medical store or official website - Avoid low-quality or unknown brands ⚠️ Important: - Don’t start all medicines at once—introduce gradually you can contact me and ask - Observe your body’s response

👉 My honest suggestion: your treatment needs a balanced approach (gut + hormones + mind). If you’re not feeling confident with your current progress, taking a second opinion is completely reasonable. If you want, I can help you with a more personalized plan you can book consultation also. And if you found this guidance helpful, do share your gratitude—it truly motivates us to support you better 🙏🙂

I’ll first explain you about ayurvedic view of SIBO and PMDD. Then I’ll tell you what should be the probable treatment in Ayurveda. The Ayurvedic Pathophysiology (Samprapti) The core issue here is Mandagni (weak digestive fire) leading to the formation of Ama (undigested toxic byproduct). SIBO as Grahani Roga: it is essentially a state of Ajirna(indigestion) leading to grahani. The stagnant food in the small intestine ferments (vidagdha), causing Samana Vayu Dushti. This creates the bloating, altered motility, and gas typical of SIBO. The Gut-Hormone Link: When Rasa Dhatu (the first tissue) is vitiated by ama, it becomes Sama Rasa. Since artava (menstrual fluid/hormones) is the Upadhatu (secondary tissue) of Rasa, the quality of hormones is compromised. PMDD as pata pitta udavarta: The ama and vayu block the downward movement of Apana vayu. Instead of flowing down, the energy moves upward (Udavarta), disturbing the Mano Vaha Srotas (channels of the mind) and causing the irritability, anxiety, and physical pain of PMDD. Integrated Treatment Protocol : The goal is to clear the “sludge” (ama) from the gut to allow the “flow” (vayu) to normalize before the luteal phase begins. Phase I: deepana pachana (kindling Agni & improve digestion) Chitrakadi Vati: Excellent for Grahani to dry up excess moisture in the small intestine. Takra (Buttermilk): medicated with panchakola churnam. takra is laghu (light) and contains natural probiotics that are often better tolerated in SIBO than commercial supplements.
Phase II: vata anulomana (Directing the Flow) To treat the PMDD, we must ensure apana Vayu moves downward. Hingwashtak Churna: taken with the first morsel of food to prevent the upward movement of gas. Phase III: artava & Manas Shanti (hormonal & mental balance) Saraswatarishtam: To stabilize the manas (mind) during the luteal phase.
Ashokarishta: To be started 10 days before your menstrual cycle to regulate Rasa and Artava. Also in addition I want to advise you something regimen to follow… 1. maintain at least 4-5 hours between meals. SIBO thrives on constant “grazing.” 2. Drinking warm water medicated with Shunti (dry ginger powder ) and Dhanyaka (Coriander seeds) throughout the day to flush Ama. 3. Self-massage with Mahanarayan Oil on the lower abdomen (in clockwise circles) during the week before the menstruation.

Hello, You’re dealing with two overlapping conditions- small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and premenstrual dysphoric disorder- and both are sensitive to hormonal shifts, gut imbalance, and stress. Stopping long term birth control while starting treatment can temporarily destabilise both. What you’re experiencing (initial improvement-> relapse) is not uncommon, but it does mean the plan needs adjustments- not blind continuation Ayurvedic view 1) SIBO-> grahani + ama + vatakapha imbalance -weak digestive fire-> improper digestion -leads to toxin accumulation (ama) -gas, bloating, heaviness= vata + kapha disturbance in intestines 2) PMDD= manovaha srotas + vata-pitta imbalance -hormonal fluctuations aggravate vata (mood swings)+ pitta (irritability, intensity ) -long term birth control suppressed natural rhythm -> body now readjusting 3) Why symptoms returned -detox phase gave temporary relief -gut flora not fully corrected -hormonal axis unstable after stopping pills -agni still weak-> relapse So this is not failure-> it’s incomplete treatment ** Treatment goals -rekindle digestion -remove toxins -reulate gut movement -restore microbiome gradually -stabilize hormones and mind Internal medications 1) For digestion + SIBO -Vilwadi gulika= 1 tab twice daily after meals =reduces gas, improves gut motility -Dashmoolarishtam= 15ml+ equal water after meals =reduces inflammation + vata -Hinguvachadi churna= 1/2 tsp before meals with warm water =strong carminative, key for bloating 2) For Hormonal + PMDD support -Ashokarishtam= 15ml + warm water twice daily after meals =regulates menstrual cycle -Kalyanakam kashayam= 15ml with warm water after dinner =mood stabiliser, supports nervous system 3) For mental stability -Brahmi ghrita= 1/2 tsp in morning =calms mind, reduces PMDD severity External therapies 1) Oil massage -daily with sesame oil -reduces vata-> bloating + anxiety Lifestyle and yoga Daily routine -wake before 7 am -eat meals same time daily -sleep before 10:30 pm Yoga -pawanmuktasana as relief -cat cow stretch -childs pose Pranayam -nadi sodhana 10min -bhramari for PMDD. mood swings Diet -warm, cooked, simple meals -moong dal khichdi -jeera + ajwain water -ginger before meals Avoid -dairy especially milk, cheese -sugar -wheat -fermented foods during flare ups -raw salads Home remedies -Ajwain + black salt after meals -ginger + lemon before meals -cumin-coriander fennel tea -warm water only no cold drinks Your concer is valid signs treatment needs adjustment -no sustained improvement after 3-4 months -severe symtoms returning -Pmdd worsening It doesn’t necessarily mean the practioner is wrong but- plan may be incomplete, detox vs rebuilding phase imbalance, hormonal transition not handled well Your body is going through two repair recaibrations at once -gut ecosystem repair -hormonal reset after 13 years That takes time but it should still show steady progress, not regression Right now, your case needs refinement, not abandonment Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you

Namaste, What you are experiencing — return of severe bloating along with worsening PMDD symptoms after initial improvement — indicates that your system is still unstable, especially digestion (agni) and hormonal balance. This kind of fluctuation can happen, but persistent worsening after initial relief means the treatment approach may need adjustment, not blind continuation. The focus should be on stabilizing digestion first and then gradually supporting hormonal balance — both together, but in a balanced way. Stopping birth control after long-term use (13 years) itself can significantly affect hormones and mood. So your recent PMDD worsening may be partly due to this transition, not only the gut issue. At this stage, it is important to re-evaluate the treatment rather than continuing the same plan if symptoms are worsening. Avoid raw foods, excess fiber, salads, and foods that aggravate bloating. Prefer simple, warm, well-cooked meals like rice alternatives (if tolerated), moong dal, soups, and stews. Eat at regular timings and avoid experimenting with too many foods. Reduce caffeine and manage stress, as both gut and hormones are sensitive. Ayurvedic medicines with dose and timing (gentle stabilization): Kutajarishta – 15 ml with equal water, twice daily after food Dadimashtaka Churna – 1 teaspoon, twice daily with food Ashwagandha Churna – ½ to 1 teaspoon in the evening with warm water or milk These are traditionally used to stabilize gut function, reduce bloating, and support the nervous system and hormonal balance. Most important guidance: • If you feel your symptoms are worsening consistently, it is reasonable to seek a second opinion • A good practitioner should adjust treatment based on your response • Treatment for SIBO-like conditions should be gradual — overly aggressive approaches can worsen symptoms You are not “failing” treatment — your body is showing that it needs a more balanced and individualized approach. With the right adjustments, improvement is possible, but it should feel progressively stable, not worsening. Consultation can help tailor this further to your needs.
