Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.

I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.

The symptoms you’re experiencing, such as bloating and constipation, suggest an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which governs movement and elimination in the body. Vata imbalance often manifests as irregular digestion and retention of waste, leading to a feeling of fullness and incomplete bowel movements.

The increase in belly and chest size could be due to Kapha accumulation, which is characterized by heaviness and stagnation. This can occur when digestion is sluggish, leading to the accumulation of undigested food, known as ‘ama,’ which contributes to bloating and a feeling of fullness.

Ashwagandha is generally known for its calming and grounding properties, which can stabilize Vata. However, in some individuals, it can also increase Kapha, potentially leading to the symptoms you’re experiencing.

To give doctors a precise and effective treatment plan, your answers to the questions below are essential. Without this information, the recommendations will be more general and less accurate.

Please answer each question as clearly as possible.

1. How long have you been experiencing bloating and constipation? Please choose from: less than 1 week, 1-4 weeks, 1-6 months, more than 6 months. 2. How would you rate the severity of your bloating? Options are: mild, moderate, severe, or very severe. 3. When do you notice your symptoms are worse? Is it in the morning, afternoon, evening/night, or is there no specific pattern? 4. Have you noticed any specific foods or activities that trigger your bloating? Examples could be certain foods, physical activity, stress, or no clear trigger. 5. How would you describe your appetite and digestive health? Options include: good, occasional bloating or gas, frequent indigestion or acidity, or chronic issues like constipation or IBS. 6. How has your energy level been since starting the medication? Would you say it’s high, average, low, or do you experience fatigue or lethargy? 7. Have you made any other changes to your diet or lifestyle recently? If yes, were these changes significant or minor?

Your detailed responses will help the doctors provide a targeted and effective treatment plan.

a1. How long have you been experiencing bloating and constipation? Please choose from: less than 1 week, 1-4 weeks, 1-6 months, more than 6 months. –It was like for years but it increased recently when i started taking these medication 2-3 weeks ago. I had bad viral flu fever and cough in january so i lost pant size and belly quite a lot but gained again in short time 2. How would you rate the severity of your bloating? Options are: mild, moderate, severe, or very severe. –I dont know its moderate may be i cant tell 3. When do you notice your symptoms are worse? Is it in the morning, afternoon, evening/night, or is there no specific pattern? –Its mostly after eating a lot worse but otherwise its bad all the time. Also my sense of taste is bad now. i cannot taste cofee tea general veggies or meat food but i can tastse only salt sugar red chilli. i tried tongue cleaning no difference. i never used to eat chillies at all in my life but all of a sudden i can tolerate green chillies well no matter how hot. Havent tried Redchilli due to IBS. 4. Have you noticed any specific foods or activities that trigger your bloating? Examples could be certain foods, physical activity, stress, or no clear trigger. –No idea i will keep an eye on it what starts. i avoid all fried foods anyways. I know for sure my IBS is worse with fried food more multigrain wholegrain. its better with plain simple food like naan, whiterice, apple without peel, dry fruit without peel, or lentils and pulses without peel i mean whole grain, its better with daal without chilka like choley daal, mungi masri, maah, arhar is good. belly feels better with dry ginger blended in light ghee ajwain and gur no cold items at all even i heat my salad in pan with sunflower oil oh yea found its WORST FOOD IS COLD for bloating 5. How would you describe your appetite and digestive health? Options include: good, occasional bloating or gas, frequent indigestion or acidity, or chronic issues like constipation or IBS. –I have excess hunger at start but just earting half of meal i feel so tight in belly but not full at all. weird. before i could eat more and digest it also fine after 1 hr or so . I feel eating snacks all the day and night. There is no acidity. sometime i take patsafa churna at night. I feel so good next day i stool soft and normal next day. I had same when i had gulkand with tea or milk but dont take everyday since its high in sugar and cooling its alreay cold here. My allopahty doctor said i have IBS for sure weirdly i cannot stay without eating max 3hrs my hands arm start shaky i go crazy like i have been left in desert for days like they show in bollywood movies 6. How has your energy level been since starting the medication? Would you say it’s high, average, low, or do you experience fatigue or lethargy? –Its getting better for sure much activte i can do my work not normally but way more than before and same with sitting i can do sitting more. my excess thirtst and pee at night is way better now my overeating little less improving i think but next month i will know more 7. Have you made any other changes to your diet or lifestyle recently? If yes, were these changes significant or minor? –yes less chicken or red meat since i feel it but i think it makes digestion worse and NO cold food eating typlical indian food with is a big NO i try to avoid tadkas just plain daal, and just cooking is basic with lightly sautteed onion tomato light ginger garlic and coriander power nothing else. I use this for my veggies cooking chicken also.

Option 1: Correct the way you take it take Ashwagandha like this: With warm milk + pinch of dry ginger After food (not empty stomach Option 2: Add eepan–Pachan support Combine with: trikatu churna Or jeera + ajwain This prevents gas formation Option 3: Reduce dose Start with 250–500 mg only Then increase slowly Option 4: Change form Instead of powder: Use Ashwagandha ghrita tablet extract (lighter digestion) Option 5: If still not tolerated Not every herb suits every person In that case, switch to: Shatavari Safed musli,

Namaste, What you are experiencing can happen sometimes when ashwagandha does not suit digestion or when agni (digestive fire) is already weak. It is a nourishing medicine, but if digestion is not proper, it can lead to bloating, heaviness, incomplete bowel movement, and that feeling of increase around abdomen and chest. In your case, since these symptoms started after taking the medicines and within 2–3 weeks, it is better to pause ashwagandha for now and observe. Continuing it in this condition may increase discomfort further. Right now the focus should be on correcting digestion and clearing the bowels properly. Avoid heavy, oily, dairy-heavy foods for a few days, especially at night. Keep your diet light and simple—moong dal, rice, cooked vegetables, little ghee. Avoid eating late and give at least 2–3 hours gap before sleep. Make sure you are not overeating or eating when previous meal is not digested, as that can directly cause bloating. A simple home remedy: After meals, take 1/2 teaspoon ajwain with a pinch of black salt, or sip warm jeera-saunf water during the day. This will help reduce gas and bloating. In the morning, you can take a glass of warm water, and if needed add 1 teaspoon ghee to help bowel movement. Try to go for a short walk after meals and avoid lying down immediately. Ayurvedic support with dose and timing: Triphala Churna – 1 teaspoon at night with warm water Hingwashtak Churna – 1/2 teaspoon after meals, twice daily Jeerakadyarishta – 2 teaspoons with equal water after meals These will help improve digestion, reduce bloating, and make bowel movement more complete. Once your digestion becomes stable and bloating reduces (usually within 1–2 weeks), ashwagandha can be reintroduced in a smaller dose if needed, or an alternative can be considered based on your body type. If the abdominal increase or discomfort continues even after stopping, it is better to review the full prescription once.

Hlo, This is very unlikely to be “muscle gain” — it’s more likely water retention + digestion slowdown + fat redistribution. – from how many days u are continuing the medicines prescribed to u, and also tell me plz are u continue on respirodon?

At present minor 1) Muscle weakness and heavyness and dryness/dehydration ( sometimes only if i overexert or overstress or ibs attack or too much triphala or soda drinks acidic food) 2) Joint pop like popcorn noise especially neck and left arm and shoulder 3) also weak legs plus mid backbone vertebrae hurts little 4) local doctor recommended DGL licorice tablets few years ago so i take those helps sooth stomach and same does iberogast liquid and digestive enzymes so digestive system good one or 2 days then bad again so goes in cycle 5) little ghee helped a lot in warm water but overall better than before 1) pants loose now from thighs and butock hips

your gut absorption and overall nourishment are improving gradually. –Cold navel orange + sea salt helping may indicate you still need electrolytes/minerals and mild hydration support. –The loose thighs/buttocks earlier were likely from chronic malabsorption + catabolism during prolonged IBS flares. Since strength is improving, focus now should be on rebuilding tissues slowly instead of aggressive detox. –Continue Small amount of ghee daily Warm freshly cooked foods DGL if stomach irritation returns Avoid excessive Triphala –Instead of stronger Guggulu use daily, Rx 1) Punarnava Mandoor – 1 tab after lunch × OD-- 15 days then check for cbc / ferritin 2) Yograj Guggulu – 1 tab after dinner on alternate days not daily for 15 days then gap of 2 days after 15 days 3) Ashwagandha churna – 3 gm HS with warm milk/water 4) Shatavari churna – 3 gm morning with lukewarm water 5) DGL Licorice – before meals if acidity/IBS — ghee continue as advised before

– stop ashwagandha for at present –If stool isn’t clear → bloating & water retention won’t go.Do this nightly: Warm water + 1 tsp ghee If still incomplete → add mild triphala (low dose) –Continue: Brahmi Vati (night only) Maha Yogaraj Guggulu (if no irritation) – if constipation persist punarnva mandooor reduce to 1 tab twice daily

You are experiencing bloating, incomplete bowel movements, and increase in abdominal and chest size, which indicates your digestion is not tolerating the current regimen well. Regarding Ashwagandha: It is hot in nature and can aggravate gastritis, bloating, and constipation in some individuals. If you are having these symptoms, it is reasonable to pause it temporarily. What to do: Focus on improving digestion first and inform your doctor about these changes, as your treatment may need adjustment. Ashwagandha works well only when digestion is stable; otherwise, it can worsen gut-related symptoms it is a scientific fact
