Hello, Since you are currently 60 days post-Virechana and still experiencing specific symptoms like upper abdominal tightness and referred back pain, it’s important to look at how the body recalibrates after such a deep detoxification. Recovery from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) through Ayurveda is rarely a linear process. Because IBS involves the “Gut-Brain Axis,” the timeline depends on how quickly your Agni (digestive fire) stabilizes and how your nervous system responds to the treatment. Understanding Your Current Symptoms The symptoms you described upper abdominal tightness and upper back pain suggest a classic Ayurvedic pattern often seen during IBS recovery: Urdhvaga Vata/Anaha: The tightness in the upper abdomen that makes breathing uneasy (especially while riding a bike, which involves physical exertion and wind exposure) is often due to upward-moving gas or “trapped” Vata. Referred Pain: In many gastrointestinal cases, tension in the diaphragm or distension in the stomach can manifest as referred pain in the upper back (specifically between the shoulder blades). Post-Virechana Sensitivity: Even 60 days later, the gut lining and the digestive fire are in a “rebuilding” phase. If the Vata dosha isn’t fully calmed, these spasmodic symptoms can persist. To answer your question directly: Most patients see a significant “return to normal” between 3 to 6 months of consistent internal medication following the purification process. Since you are at the 2-month mark, you are likely entering the most critical healing phase. Observations on Your Regimen The medications you are taking are well-structured for IBS: Dadimadi Ghrita: Essential for strengthening the digestive fire and “binding” the stool. Bilagyl & Stop-IBS: These act as Grahi (absorbents) to control frequency and inflammation. Anulom-DS: Ensures that Vata moves downward (Anulomana), which should eventually help with that upper abdominal tightness. Additionally I want to suggest following for your current condition. 1. Shankh Vati Dose: 1 tablet (250mg) twice a day, roughly 30 minutes after lunch and dinner. Consuming it with lukewarm water helps release trapped gas more effectively. 2. Mustakarishta Dose: 15ml to 20ml mixed with an equal quantity of water, taken twice daily after meals.

Hello, You’re already on a structured post virechana protocol, which is good- but your current symptoms show vata-udana imbalance + mild residual pitta irritation in upper GI. That’s why you feel -upper back pain-> vata in prana/ udana vaha srotas -Tightness + uneasy breathing -> udana vata + diaphragm spasm -worse on bike -> vibration + posture aggravates vata Recovery timeline -After virechana= 90-120 days total stabilization -You’re at ~60 days-> expect another 4-6 weeks for near normal -Full gut stability (IBS)= 3-4 months depending on Diest discipline Internal management 1) Medicine adjustment (keep it simple and targeted) Continue your current meds but refine Morning empty stomach -Dadimadi ghrita - continue Before breakfast -Amlant tablet- continue After dinner -Stop-IBS + Anulom Ds (good but may be drying vata slightly) Add (important for your symptoms -Dashmoolarishtam= 15ml + equal water after lunch and dinner = best for back pain + vata in upper body -Guluchyadi kashayam tablets= 2 tabs twice daily before food =reduces internal inflammation + IBS correction -Dhanwantaram taila external= apply warm on upper back + chest daily before bath =directly helps tightness and breathing discomfort Key correction (this is crucial) Your current treatment Is more gut focused, but your symptoms now are vata moving upward So priority shift -from only IBS- to vata balancing + diaphragm relaxation Diet most important factor now You said strict diet- good refine it -warm, soft, slightly oily food -rice+ moong dal + ghee -jeera + ajwain + hing In food -buttermilk lunch only, with roasted jeera Avoid strictly -dry foods roti without ghee, khkahra, toast -cold foods , fridge wate -raw salads at night -excess tea, coffee Lifestyle correction often ignored but key here Stop temporarily -long bike rides major trigger in your case -sitting in bent posture ADD -steam inhalation (plain water ) once daily -gentle chest opening stretches -left lateral sleeping (improves digestion + breathing) Simple Ayurvedic breathing reset Do this daily (very important for your symptoms) -slow inhalate 4 sec-> hold 2 sec-> exhale 6 sec -10 rounds, twice daily This stabilizes udana vata If you notice -increasing breath tightness -pain radiating to chest/arm -severe bloating not reducing ->Rule out non-GI causes once (just to be safe) Expect ~1 more month for solid improvement Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you

Okay don’t worry firstly I will explain you about the symptoms your feeling like about feeling gas or air in your upper side which is pointing towards the udavartha 1) So when you ride a bike or sit poorly the air gets pushhed against the diaphragm that’s why you feel tightness in your chest and find its slightly heart to breat it’s not lung issue but gastric pressure 2) now what happened with your back pain because the stomach and upper gut are tight and bloated the nerve transmit that discomfort to back pain once the digestion settle and the gas move download the back pain with disappeared naturally 3) about your Agni the gut is like a healing wound it has been 60 days but it usually take 90 to 120 days for digestive fire to become 100% table As your main symptoms are under control but that tightness and back pain happens because your digestive wind is still moving upward rather than downward when you ride a bike that pressure hits your diaphragm making you feel hard to breathe This reset time takes about 3 to 4 month total so you are very close to your full recovery for now Ensure all meals are warm avoid cold water raw salad add A Pinch of roasted Hing to your butter milk or dal a gentle warm massage on abdomen frombmahanarayan oil or dhanvantaram oil in clockwise direction Don’t worry you will be perfectly fine

Im getting excessive yawning when sitting in office. Is it due to same vata issue ?

Yes excessive yawning is one of the symptom when vata increase in your body and also when you are dehydrated

IBS recovery after Virechana usually takes 2–3 months more (total ~3–4 months) to feel near normal. You are at 60 days, so improvement should continue gradually Your current symptoms: Upper back pain + tight upper abdomen = mostly Vata imbalance + gas pressure Common during IBS recovery phase What to do Continue medicines as advised Avoid bike riding immediately after food Take warm food, no cold items Do light deep breathing (pranayama) daily

Recovery timeline In clinical practice, ibs without major psychological association usually takes around 6 months to 1 year for near-complete recovery. since you are about 60 days post-virechana, this is still the phase where agni is stabilizing and intestinal function is being restored. mild residual symptoms like tightness or back pain can persist during this period. you may require another 2 to 4 months of consistent treatment and discipline for more complete relief. understanding your symptoms the upper abdominal tightness with breathing uneasiness, especially during bike riding, indicates mild vata aggravation in the upper gastrointestinal region. movement and vibration during riding can further disturb vata. upper back pain for more than 4 weeks can be due to referred pain from gut imbalance or vata involvement in mamsa and asthi dhatu. what you should do now diet continue a strict, individualized diet. avoid foods that trigger bloating or discomfort. generally avoid cold, dry, processed, fermented, and heavy foods. prefer warm, freshly prepared, easily digestible meals like rice, moong dal, and small amounts of ghee. diet should be adjusted based on your personal tolerance. post-meal routine walk about 200 steps after 45 minutes of each meal. this supports digestion and reduces gas accumulation. water intake drink according to thirst, not excessively. prefer warm water in small quantities. exercise do mild daily activity. light stretching, gentle yoga like pawanmuktasana and vajrasana, and simple breathing practices are helpful. avoid heavy exercise at this stage. activity modification since bike riding worsens your symptoms, try to limit long rides for some time. avoid riding immediately after meals and maintain proper posture. medicines your current medicines are appropriate for agni deepana, grahani support, and vata anulomana. continue them as advised unless symptoms change significantly. overall, your progress is acceptable for this stage. ibs requires patience, and steady improvement is expected with continued adherence to diet, lifestyle, and treatment over the next few months.

what you are experiencing now is a phase where the body has already undergone cleansing through virechana but is still trying to settle into a stable rhythm of digestion and nervous balance so there can be a mix of relief in some symptoms and appearance of sensations like tightness or discomfort which makes you feel uncertain but this is part of the body readjusting sixty days is still not the final stage of recovery because ibs is not limited to the gut it involves vata imbalance and gut brain coordination so even after shodhana the system needs time to rebuild agni and stabilise the internal movement of vata the upper back pain and tightness in the upper abdomen along with slight breathing difficulty especially while riding bike shows that vata is still moving upwards and getting obstructed in the upper channels this creates a sense of pressure around the diaphragm and chest area which becomes more noticeable during movement strain or exposure to wind this indicates that healing is in progress but vata has not yet settled completely so the treatment is working but the body still needs time and support to reach a steady state in most cases after virechana ibs takes around three to six months to reach stability and sometimes longer depending on how long the issue has been present how consistent the diet and routine are and how much stress is involved so at present you are in the middle phase of recovery it will help if you avoid riding bike immediately after food and also avoid riding on an empty stomach keep the chest and abdomen protected from cold air because exposure can aggravate vata and increase this tightness food should be warm freshly prepared and slightly unctuous avoid dry cold and raw items even if digestion feels better sip warm water or jeera water through the day to support digestion taking a small amount of ghee with food at night or a pinch of hing in warm water can support downward movement of vata

Hi Well it takes about couple of months to get relief…if possible stop riding bike as it causes vata aggravation hence gastric issues You must continue the medicines prescribed post virechan You will definitely get fine

Symptoms you are facing: -Back pain -Tightness during straining your abdominal muscle Why symptoms are still there: -Even after good treatment, these persist because: -A classic vatt agrivated scenerio -Agni is not fully stable yet -Vata takes longer to normalize than Pitta -Gut-brain axis (modern view) still sensitive -Lifestyle triggers (bike riding, irregular meals, stress) What you should adjust (very important) 1. Reduce Vata triggers -Avoid long bike rides (or take breaks) -Avoid eating just before riding -Keep abdomen warm (very underrated but effective) 2. Breathing tightness → key fix -This is often functional spasm, not lung issue Do daily: -Deep diaphragmatic breathing (5–7 min) -Gentle Anulom Vilom (no force) 3. Diet correction (crucial now) -Even if medicines are perfect, diet decides recovery: ✔ Prefer: Warm, soft, slightly oily food -Rice + moong, ghee, pomegranate -Buttermilk Avoid: -Raw salads -Cold foods -Fermented excess -Late-night meals -Curd 4. Add -Hingvastak churna (very small dose) for Vata -Mild Abhyanga (upper abdomen + back) *You are not delayed in recovery *You are in the expected mid-recovery phase

Hello I understand your concern. Even after 60 days of treatment post virechana, having some symptoms can feel worrying. In your case, IBS recovery takes time because it involves gut healing and Vata stabilization after cleansing therapy. The tightness in upper abdomen and back pain is usually due to residual Vata imbalance and gut sensitivity, especially triggered during activities like bike riding. Your current medicines are appropriate and already working on gut repair, so there is no need to change them abruptly. Recovery in such cases usually takes around 2–3 months more for complete stabilization, provided diet and routine are followed strictly. To support faster recovery, you can add Hingwashtak churna ½ tsp with first bite of meals Continue your current medicines regularly as prescribed. Avoid long gaps between meals, avoid dry foods, and include a little ghee daily to reduce internal dryness. Avoid strain like long bike rides for some time, and keep routine calm and consistent. Your condition is improving, just needs more time for full normalization. Warm Regards Dr Raghuveer SN
