In Ayurveda, simple renal cysts are often categorized under Granthi (cystic swellings), resulting from an imbalance of Vata and Kapha doshas. While modern medicine often monitors simple cysts without intervention, Ayurveda focuses on balancing renal function and reducing the “growth-promoting” factors in the body.  Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa) is highly regarded for its Mootrala (diuretic) and Rasayana (rejuvenative) properties.  **there isn’t definitive clinical proof that Punarnava can “dissolve” a cyst entirely, its anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic properties can help manage fluid dynamics within the kidney, potentially preventing the cyst from enlarging. **Research shows Punarnava is effective in improving renal markers. It helps in the “cleansing” of the Mutravaha Srotas (urinary channels), which can assist in stabilizing or slightly lowering creatinine levels.  **Since she already has slightly high potassium levels, caution is needed. Punarnava is a potassium-sparing diuretic in many contexts, but any herbal diuretic can alter electrolyte balance. I have prescribed medications which contains punarnava , also other medications which are essential for your condition , so take them consistently and you will see results soon. Dos:— • Sip lukewarm water throughout the day (unless fluid intake is restricted by her doctor). • Include Petha (ash gourd), Parwal (pointed gourd), and Mung Dal. •Ensure 7–8 hours of quality sleep to allow for tissue repair. Don’ts:— • Strictly limit salt intake, as it increases the workload on the kidneys and can contribute to fluid retention in cysts.  • Since her levels are high, temporarily limit bananas, citrus fruits, spinach, and potatoes. • Avoid heavy red meats or excessive dairy, which can raise creatinine.

In people with kidney disease, any herbal diuretic can potentially affect electrolytes (including potassium) depending on kidney function and combination with other medicines So the concern should be more about kidney safety and electrolyte monitoring, not just potassium alone.

Punarnava is mainly known for its diuretic and shothahara (anti-inflammatory) properties. It supports kidney function, helps reduce fluid accumulation, and may prevent further cyst enlargement indirectly. However, it does NOT reliably shrink or eliminate a simple renal cyst, especially in elderly patients. Its role is more supportive than curative. In this case: Creatinine 1.04 → near normal (monitor regularly) Ayurvedic use Punarnava churna: 2–3 g twice daily with warm water OR Punarnava kwath: 20–30 ml twice daily

Hello, A simple renal cyst -is usually benign (non- cancerous) -common in elderly individuals -often does not require treatment if asymptomatic In your case -no symptoms -recent diagnosis -slightly raised creatinine (1.04)->borderline, needs monitoring -slightly high potassium-> more important clinically The main goal is kidney protection, not aggressive cyst removal Ayurvedic view This condition can be correlated with -Mutravaha srotas dushti (urinary systerm imbalance) -mild kapha + vata involvement -cyst= granthi like structure (localised growth) Treatment goals -support kidney filtration -prevent fluid stagnation -avoid progression of cyst -maintain electrolyte balance -avoid strain on kidney Role of punarnava Punarnava is diuretic, anti inflammatory, mild nephroprotective What it can do -reduce water retention -support kidney function -help mild creatinine imbalance What it cannot reliably do -shrink renal cysts sinificantly So, YES it is supportive, not curative for cyst size Internal management 1) Punarnavadi kashaya= 15ml + 45ml warm water twice daily before meals =reduces fluid accumulation, supports kidneys 2) Nephrosava= already taking continue as prescried =acts as renal support formulation 3) Gokshuradi guggulu= 1 tab twice daily after meals =supports urinary system, reduces inflammation, helps prevent complication 4) Varunadi kashaya= 15ml + equal water twice daily before meals =helps in cyst like growth management Duration -Minimum= 3 months -repeat ultrasound after 3 months Lifestyle and daily routine Hydratiion -moderate water intake not excessive -avoid dehydration Avoid -excess salt important for potassium balance -processed foods -high potassium foods in excess banana, coconut water, potatoes in large amounts Include -bottle gourd, ridge gourd -barley water light, kidney friendly -coriander seed water mild diuretic Yoga and ppranayam -Anulom vilom= improves circulation -bhramari= reduce stress -mild stretching= no abdominal pressure Avoid -intense core exercises -heavy twisting postures Home remedies -Coriander water= boil 1 tsp coriander seeds in water-> drink once daily -Jeera water= indirectly supports kidney metabolism Repeat -serum creatinine every 3 months -serum potassium -ultrasound 3-6 months Simple renal cysts are usually harmless and stable Focus should be on kidney preservation, not agressive shrinkage Punarnava is helpful as supportive therapy, not a cure Regular monitoring is more important than adding medications Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you

Will punanrnavadi kashiya, gokshuradi guglu, and varuna kashya affect potassium levels adversely?

Dr. Sara Garg

Punarnavadi and Varuna Kashaya are mutrala (diuretic) medicines, so in weak kidneys they may disturb dhatu–jala balance and electrolytes; hence potassium should be monitored. Gokshuradi Guggulu is comparatively mild and safer for long-term use.

Gokshura guggulu is safe you can take without hesitation and punarnavadi kashaya and varuna kashaya is milder take it for 2-3 months then review your potassium level main focus should be on diet control

Given your description: –Creatinine: 1.04 mg/dL (borderline / slightly elevated depending on age & lab) Potassium: slightly high Already taking Nefrosave (renal supplement/medication) —This matters because: Some herbal diuretics can alter potassium balance In older adults, kidney handling of potassium is already reduced Combining multiple “kidney support” products can sometimes be unnecessary or risky. –In this case, careful monitoring and kidney-safe management is more important than adding herbal treatment. – supportive treatment 1) Punarnavadi Kashayam - 15 ml + equal water, twice daily before food 2) Gokshuradi Guggulu - 1 tablets, twice daily after food 3) Varunadi Kashayam - 15 ml + water, twice daily before food 4) Chandraprabha Vati - 1 tablet (250 mg), twice daily after food — Important in her case Because she has: Mildly high creatinine High potassium Elderly age---- continue monitoring with reports after 15 days.

Punarnava works great as diuretic so yes it helps removing Renal stone. Drink plenty of water and keep electrolyte balance so you don’t loose excess electrolytes through urine. There are some more medicine you need some more medicine. Take them as well. Avoid Spinach, tomato seeds, brinjal, raisin, brinjal, ladyfinger(okra),beetroot, grapes, chiku etc( bcz high in oxalate, a stone forming content). Keep hydration enough.

A simple renal cyst is usually a benign fluid-filled cyst in the kidney and is commonly found in elderly individuals during routine ultrasound. Most simple cysts do not require active treatment unless they: • Increase significantly in size • Cause pain / pressure symptoms • Affect kidney function • Show complex features on imaging In many cases, treatment focuses on monitoring kidney health rather than shrinking the cyst aggressively. Punarnava may support kidney health, but it should not be expected to reliably shrink a simple renal cyst. You can take 1. Gokshuradi Guggulu Dose: 1 tablet twice daily after food with warm water 2. Chandraprabha Vati Dose: 1 tablet twice daily after food. 3. Varunadi Kashayam Dose: 15 ml + 45 ml warm water twice daily before food. Use for 6–8 weeks, then review: Serum creatinine Potassium eGFR Blood pressure Repeat ultrasound as advised

Punarnava is medicine that improves parameters of kidney , will not dissolve cyst. For cyst you take Kanchanar guggul 1-0-1 after food with water Vriddhivadhika vati 1-0-1 after food with water You also need medicine to improve kidney . Take Chandraprbha vati 1+0-1 after food with water Renogest tablet 1-0-1 after food with water. Lessen intake of salt in your diet If potassium is high Avoid fruits, salads. Pink salt. Coconut water

Hello dear, From an Ayurvedic perspective, a renal cyst is often viewed as a Granthi (a glandular swelling or growth) caused by an imbalance in Vata and Kapha doshas. Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa) is highly regarded as a Mutrala (diuretic) and Rasayana (rejuvenator) that helps flush out toxins and reduce swelling.
While Punarnava helps in fluid balance, Ayurvedic protocols for reducing the actual size of a “Granthi” often combine it with “Lekhana” (scraping) herbs like Kanchanar to break down the cyst wall. Creatinine (1.04) is generally considered within or at the high end of the normal range, In Ayurveda, this indicates a need to improve the “Srotas” (channels) of the kidney. Punarnava is a natural diuretic. Using it alongside Nefrosave (which often contains Taurine and Acetylcysteine to protect kidneys) or if there is already high potassium, requires caution. Diuretics can sometimes shift electrolyte levels.
For a “Granthi” (cyst) with mild renal stress, the following is a common Ayurveda protocol. Prescription : 1. Punarnavadi Kwath Action: Reduces swelling and supports kidney filtration.
Dose: 15 ml mixed with 60 ml of boiled and cooled water, taken twice daily on an empty stomach (approx. 30 minutes before food).
2. Kanchanar Guggulu Action: Specifically used in Ayurveda to reduce the size of cysts and growths.
Dose: 2 tablets twice daily, taken after food with warm water. 3. Chandraprabha Vati Action: A general kidney tonic that helps manage creatinine levels and urinary health.
Dose: 1 tablet twice daily after food. Since the user already has “slightly high potassium,” do not start these without a doctor’s supervision. Some herbs can inadvertently increase potassium if kidney clearance is slow. Maintain adequate water intake unless a fluid restriction has been advised by her nephrologist.
Re-check creatinine and potassium levels after 15–30 days of starting any Ayurvedic treatment to ensure they are trending in the right direction. You can give me follow up after that… By personal consultation.
