How to treat my father's sciatica and back pain caused by diabetes and lumbar issues? - #54396
My father has been suffering from sciatica for the past year and is unable to perform physical activities properly. He also has diabetes. Please suggest an appropriate solution. Doctor’s Assessment: Lumbar muscle spasm → Tight lower back muscles → Loss of normal lumbar curve L5 over S1 anterolisthesis (Grade I–II) → Mild forward slipping of L5 vertebra → Can cause back pain and leg pain Degenerative (wear & tear) changes → Small bone spurs (osteophytes) → Endplate changes at multiple levels Disc bulges → Present at L3–L4 → Present at L5–S1 → Mild indentation on spinal sac Nerve compression → At L3–L4 level → At L5–S1 level → Compression of exiting nerve roots → Can cause sciatica symptoms Disc tear at L5–S1 (annular tear) → Tear in outer disc layer → Possible disc extrusion → Major contributor to pain

avoid spicy food and milk and milk produts do nasya with cow ghee 2 drop each nostril 2 times day take cow ghee 2 drop each nostril 2 times day tab .lumbagest 2-2-2 after food tab chandraprabhavti 2-2-2 use mahanarayan oil do massage with steam
Your father’s MRI shows disc bulge + nerve compression + mild vertebral slip, which is a structural spine issue. So treatment should focus on reducing nerve pressure + improving stability, not just pain relief. What to do (practical plan) 1. Activity modification (very important) ❌ Avoid bending forward, lifting weight, sudden twisting ❌ Avoid long sitting ✔ Use firm bed for sleep ✔ Walk in short intervals (don’t overdo) 2. Physiotherapy (key treatment) Daily guided exercises: McKenzie extension exercises Core strengthening Hamstring stretching 👉 This is most important for long-term improvement 3. Pain & nerve care (Ayurveda support) Yograj Guggulu – 1 tablet twice daily after food Mahayograj Guggulu – 1 tablet twice daily after food Dashmool kwath – 15 ml twice daily 4. External therapy Daily warm oil massage (Mahanarayan oil) on lower back Followed by hot fomentation 5. Diabetes care Since he has diabetes: Avoid sugary formulations Keep sugar well-controlled → nerve healing improves 6. Ghar par Sleeping: pillow under knees (if lying on back) Sitting: lumbar support cushion When to consider advanced care Increasing weakness in leg Loss of bladder/bowel control Severe persistent pain 👉 Then spine specialist evaluation needed (injection/surgery options) Expectation Pain relief: 2–4 weeks Functional improvement: 6–8 weeks (with physiotherapy) Key point: 👉 Exercise + posture correction = main treatment Medicines are only support. If you want, I can give a day-wise exercise routine for him. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)
