Hello, In Ayurveda, these symptoms suggest a combination of Vata-Pitta imbalance and Dhatu Kshaya (depletion of tissues). The swelling (Edema) on the face is likely Shotha, caused by the side effects of long-term medication (Aushadha-sevana) affecting the kidneys or liver. The anxiety, lack of sleep, and hopelessness point towards a Vata disturbance in the mind (Manovaha Srotas), while the burning sensation and gastric issues indicate high Pitta. Prescription : 1. Kalyanaka Gritham: This is a medicated ghee used specifically for anxiety, lack of willpower, and improving mental clarity. Dose: 1 teaspoon on an empty stomach in the morning with warm water. 2. Manasamithra Vatakam: A powerful tablet for deep sleep and calming the nervous system. Dose: 1 tablet twice daily after food. For better sleep, take one dose with warm milk at night. For Burning Sensation & Gastric Issues 3. Alsactil Tablet: This helps reduce the burning sensation (Amlapitta) in the chest and back and treats gastric irritation. Dose: 1 to 2 tablets 30 minutes before food, twice daily. For Arthritis & Facial Swelling 1. Punarnavasava: A liquid preparation that acts as a natural diuretic to reduce facial swelling and detoxify the system. Dose: 15-20 ml with an equal amount of water, twice daily after meals. 2. Pinda Thailam (External): Since she has arthritis and burning sensations, this cooling oil is better than heat-inducing oils. Application: Lightly apply to painful joints; do not massage vigorously. Gentle application of Ksheerabala Thailam on the scalp and soles of the feet before bed can significantly improve sleep quality. Avoid spicy, fermented, and sour foods. Include cooling foods like bottle gourd (lauki), pomegranate, and soaked raisins. 10 minutes of Bhramari and Anulom Vilom will help regain mental zeal and reduce hopelessness.

• Pinda Thailam - Kerala Ayurveda (Pindathailam 200 Ml) — x1 • Punarnavasava (450 Ml) - Kerala Ayurveda (Punarnavasava 450 Ml) — x2 • Alsactil Tablet (100 Nos) - Kerala Ayurveda (Alsactil 100 Nos) — x1 • Manasamithra Vatakam Gulika (Manasamithravatakam Gu. 25 Nos) - Kerala Ayurveda (Manasamithravatakam Gu. 25 Nos) — x1 • Kalyanaka Ghritham (150 Ml) - Kerala Ayurveda (Kalyanaka Ghritham 150 Ml) — x1

In Ayurveda, this condition appears to be a combined imbalance of aggravated Vata and Pitta, along with long-standing disturbance of Agni (digestive fire) and possible accumulation of Ama (metabolic toxins) in the body. Her arthritis indicates chronic Vata aggravation affecting the joints, while the burning sensation, acidity, irritability, disturbed sleep, and anxiety suggest increased Pitta involvement. Continuous strong medicines for pain and arthritis over a long period may also weaken digestion and fluid metabolism, which can contribute to facial swelling, heaviness, gastric irritation, mental exhaustion, and low emotional strength. The emotional symptoms such as hopelessness, lack of motivation, social withdrawal, and poor sleep also indicate depletion of mental energy and Ojas in Ayurveda. At this stage, treatment should focus on: Improving digestion gently without overheating the body Reducing Ama and inflammation Calming Vata in the nervous system Supporting sleep and emotional stability Protecting liver and stomach from long-term medicine effects Helpful Ayurvedic supports commonly considered: Guduchi – for inflammation, immunity, and Pitta balance Ashwagandha – for anxiety, sleep, weakness, and Vata calming Brahmi – supports mind relaxation and sleep quality Avipattikar Churna – may help acidity and burning tendency Mild external oil massage with warm sesame or Mahanarayan oil can help stiffness and nervous tension if tolerated Diet & lifestyle: Warm, freshly cooked, light meals Avoid excessive tea, spicy food, sour food, packaged food, and late-night eating Early sleep routine Gentle walking, sunlight exposure, calming environment, and emotional support are very important

Hello, 1. The reason for arthritis-may be the age and the wear and tear of the joints. 2. The reasons for gastric issue- due to the prolonged irregular eating habits, drinking tea and coffee in empty stomach, consuming pain killers for long time(over the counter)-one and all of these may be the reason for the gastric issues. 3. Reasons for anxiety, lack of will power, seep issues- there should be a history of some emotional trauma/ postmenopausal hormonal issues How to deal with it: 1. For arthritis-as she is on prescription medication please continue the same under medically advised. Along with that take her for physiotherapy sessions. Apply the following mix of oils after making it luke warm over the affected joint/joints: Murivenna+sahacharadi thailam 2. For gastritis-Of there is already a prescription medication please do continue, if not start the following- Ulasant-D syrup(alchem) 10ml-----1o0ml—10ml 30 minutes before each meal. For 30 days. Along with that, please avoid spicy food, deep fries, tea/coffee in empty stomach; improve the hydration levels. 3. For the lacking will power etc. you can start with the following- Manomitram tablet(avn) 1—0----1 after breakfast and after dinner. For 30 days. Along with that, Let her practice gentle yougasana and pranayama after learning from a teacher/you can also make her join group youga classes around your place, which will help her to come out of het current mental status. Take care, Kind regards.

Hello, This is a complex, multi system imbalance, not just arthritis. The symptoms point to a deeper Ayurvedic pattern-you need to treat the root, not just joints Ayurvedic view -Vata + pitta aggravation -ama (toxins) accumulation from long term medication -manovaha srotas imbalance-> anxiety, low willpower -likely drug induced edema (face swelling) + weak digestion In simple terms -toxins. + weak digestion + nervous system imbalance = current condition Internal medications 1) Detox+ inflammation control -Mahayogaraj guggulu= 2 tabs twice daily after meals =arthritis + removes ama 2) Swelling (face edema) + fluid balance -Punarnavadi kashayam= 15ml + water twice daily after meals =best for chronic swelling 3) Anxiety + sleep + mental strength -Manasmitra vatakam= 1 tab at night =deep seated + reduces fear/anxiety 4) Burning sensation (pitta control) -Avipattikar churna= 1 tsp with warm water at bedtime =controls acidity, burning in chest/back 5) Gastric + digestion correction (very important) -Hingwastaka churna= 1/2 tsp before meals with warm water =removes gas + improve agni External therapies -warm oil massage with Mahanarayan taila= daily for arthritis pain + calms vata Diet -warm, light food -khichdi, soups -cow ghee small quantity daily -buttermilk with roasted cumin Avoid -cold, fried, packaged food -excess tea, coffeee -sour + spicy food (increases burning) Lifestyle key for mental recovery -daily morning sunlight exposure -gentle yoga + breathing anulom vilom -fixed sleep time before 10:30 pm Expected recovery -7-10 days= better digestion, less burning -2-3 weeks= reduces anxiety, improved sleep -4-6 weeks= swelling + energy improvement Important -do not abruptly stop current arthritis medicines -facial swelling for 1 year-> rule out kidney/liver side effects -if anxiety is severe, combine with personal consultation Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you

This is not a single problem, but a combined imbalance of body + mind, likely due to long-term medication effect, weak digestion, and increased Vata–Pitta imbalance. That is why you are seeing: * Swelling (fluid retention / drug effect) * Gastric issues and burning (Pitta aggravation) * Anxiety, low mood, poor sleep (Vata disturbance) * Low energy and lack of interest So treatment has to be calming + digestive correction + nervous system support. Keep her routine very simple and regular. Avoid spicy, sour, fried, and packaged food. Give warm, light meals. Avoid long gaps between meals. Reduce tea/coffee. At home: Warm milk at night with a pinch of nutmeg (jaiphal) for sleep Daily gentle oil massage on feet and scalp (sesame oil) Jeera + coriander boiled water once daily for digestion Encourage light walking and sunlight exposure daily, even for short duration. * Ashwagandha tablet – 1 tablet at bedtime * Brahmi vati – 1 tablet twice daily * Avipattikar tablet – 1 tablet after meals (for burning/gastric) * Punarnava mandoor – 1 tablet twice daily after food This will help reduce anxiety, improve sleep, support digestion, and reduce swelling gradually. Do not stop her current arthritis medicines suddenly. If swelling or mood symptoms are severe, a review with her physician is also important. With consistent routine and support, improvement can be seen gradually. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)

The symptoms described suggest a complex interplay between long-term medication side effects, digestive disturbance, and a significant imbalance of the nervous system. Rx 1.Manassmithra vatkam 1 tab twice daily with milk after meals 2.Kalyanaka ghrita 1 tsp with warm milk or water empty stomach in the morning 3.Avipattikar churna 1/2 tsp at bedtime with warm water 4.Saraswatarishta 20 ml with 20 ml water twice daily after meals 5.Punarnavadi kwath 15 ml with 15 ml water twice daily after meals External & Lifestyle Recommendations -Mahanarayan Taila: Gentle daily massage on the joints to relieve Vata-related stiffness. For the head and soles of the feet, Ksheerabala Thailam is recommended before bed to improve sleep quality. -Dietary Adjustment: Focus on warm, light, and easy-to-digest foods like Mung Dal Khichdi. Avoid spicy, sour, and fermented foods which trigger the burning sensation. -Breathwork: 10 minutes of Anulom Vilom (Alternate Nostril Breathing) and Bhramari (Humming Bee Breath) to help stabilize the severe anxiety and lack of willpower.

The swollen face she has had for a year, combined with severe anxiety, disturbed sleep and severe gastric burning, is a classic reaction to Corticosteroids (steroid medications like Prednisolone, Deflazacort or Methylprednisolone) which are often prescribed for severe arthritis. Long-term steroid use causes fat and water to accumulate in the face (known medically as moon face). More importantly, these medications severely irritate the stomach lining, causing intense acid reflux (which is the exact cause of the burning sensation radiating to her chest and back). Furthermore, they drastically alter brain chemistry, leading to severe, chemically induced anxiety, insomnia and profound depression. ✓Ayurvedic Action Plan Our immediate goal is to physically heal the burning stomach lining, rapidly cool her nervous system, and restore her mental strength so she can sleep deeply. 1. Kamdudha Ras (Moti Yukta / With Pearl) Dosage: 1 tablet twice a day. Time: 30 minutes before her lunch and dinner. Vehicle: Normal water. 2. Brahmi Vati Dosage: 2 tablets once a day. Time: 45 minutes before she goes to sleep. Vehicle: A cup of warm milk. 3. Drakshadi Kashayam Dosage: 15 ml mixed with 15 ml of normal water. Time: Twice a day, taken 30 minutes after meals. ✓Crucial Care Rules 1. Do Not Stop Medicines Abruptly: She must not suddenly stop her arthritis medications. If she is on steroids, stopping them overnight can cause a severe and dangerous medical crash (adrenal crisis). The goal of these Ayurvedic medicines is to protect her organs and mind from the side effects while she consults her prescribing doctor about safely tapering or changing her arthritis prescription. 2. Diet: She must strictly avoid all chilies, sour foods (like tomatoes, lemon, yogurt), and fermented items. Her diet should consist of cooling, soothing foods like plain rice, mung dal, bottle gourd (Lauki), and fresh coconut water. 3. Elevate the Head: To stop the stomach acid from burning her chest and back at night, she must sleep with her head and upper chest elevated by using two pillows. Regards, Dr Gursimran Jeet Singh MD Panchakarma
