Can Ayurveda treat my mother's stage 3a kidney disease and diabetic neuropathy? - #54816

venkata purna
$7

My mother due to diabetic complications developed stage 3a kidney decease. Though her A1C is at 7.5 now, earlier it is around 10. I am attaching her current lab results. CREATININE: 1.2 EFGR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) : 51.3 ALBUMIN CREATINE RATIO 38.5 Is there any ayurveda medicines that will cure/stop further progress. My mother also developed diabetic nuropathy. Some one gave punarnava arista, ashoka arista, saraswathi arista and some other powders. She took for 4 months. Earlier she can't do even household work also. She is better now as she is able to perform household work. Please give medications for both Stage 3a Kidney decease and Nuropathy.

Stage 3a CKD (eGFR ~51) can be controlled and progression slowed, not reversed. Focus on kidney protection + sugar control + Vata management for neuropathy. 1) Kidney protection Punarnavadi Kashayam – 15 ml + equal water, twice daily before food Gokshuradi Guggulu – 2 tablets twice daily after food Chandraprabha Vati – 1 tablet twice daily after food (If already using) Punarnava Arishta – 15 ml + water after meals (can continue instead of kashayam) 2) Diabetes control (root cause) Nishamalaki Churna – 3 g twice daily before food Gudmar + Jamun seed powder – 2–3 g twice daily Amalaki Rasayana – 1 tsp morning 3) Diabetic neuropathy Ashwagandha Churna – 3 g at bedtime Balarishta – 15 ml + water twice daily after food Yograj Guggulu – 1 tablet twice daily 4) External therapy Daily foot massage with Ksheerabala taila Mild heat fomentation after massage Diet and precautions Strict diabetic diet, avoid sugar, maida, packaged food Moderate protein, low salt (if swelling/BP) Avoid painkillers (NSAIDs) Continue modern diabetes/BP medicines Monitor every 3 months: creatinine,Hba1c This combination supports kidney function and improves nerve strength while keeping treatment renal-safe.

This condition has reached a stage where complete reversal is not possible but it can be controlled and slowed down very effectively if managed properly with the right combination of Ayurveda diet and regular monitoring Your mother’s creatinine is within a manageable range but eGFR around 51 shows moderate reduction in kidney function and the albumin creatinine ratio indicates early leakage of protein which means we have to act carefully now to protect further damage The earlier high sugar levels have contributed to this condition and though her HbA1c has come down to 7 point 5 it is still better to gradually bring it closer to around 6 point 5 to 7 without causing weakness or hypoglycemia It is a good sign that she responded to the medicines given earlier especially punarnava which supports kidney function and reduces fluid imbalance You can continue punarnavarishta 15 ml with equal water after food twice daily Along with that gokshuradi guggulu one tablet twice daily after food will help reduce protein loss and support kidney filtration Chandraprabha vati one tablet twice daily can be added as it supports both urinary system and sugar metabolism If available varunadi kashayam 10 to 15 ml with water before food twice daily can also be used for additional kidney support There is no need to continue ashoka arishta as it is not required in this condition and unnecessary medicines should be avoided For the neuropathy which is due to vata imbalance and nerve weakness you can continue saraswatarishta at night after food Ashwagandha half teaspoon with warm milk at night can help improve nerve strength and sleep if sugar levels are stable Brahmi vati one tablet twice daily will help calm the nerves and reduce stress For the burning and discomfort in the feet gentle application of ksheerabala taila daily at night is very helpful and improves circulation and nerve function Diet plays a very important role in slowing the progression Salt intake should be controlled and excess protein should be avoided Avoid packaged foods pickles very sour and fermented items Include light vegetables like bottle gourd ash gourd ridge gourd and small quantity of barley water Coriander seed water can also be given Avoid heavy protein intake red meat and protein supplements Water intake should be adequate but not excessive Regular monitoring every three to four months is important to track creatinine eGFR and urine protein With consistent care many patients remain stable in this stage for years and avoid further progression if diet lifestyle and medicines are followed properly

Hello dear, of course Ayurveda can help your mother to recover from her current medical condition. It is encouraging to see your mother’s A1C drop from 10 to 7.5, and her functional recovery following the initial Arishta regimen is a highly positive clinical sign. The restoration of her ability to manage household work indicates a very good response to the Vata-anulomana and Sroto-shodhana properties of those initial formulations. To address the expectation of a “cure,” it is important to ground the approach in clinical reality. Stage 3a Chronic Kidney Disease secondary to diabetes (Diabetic Nephropathy) involves structural changes to the glomeruli. Neither modern medicine nor Ayurveda can completely “cure” or reverse this existing structural damage. However, targeted Ayurvedic intervention is highly effective at halting further progression, preserving her current eGFR of 51.3, reducing the albumin-creatinine ratio, and managing neuropathic symptoms. Diabetic Nephropathy and Neuropathy are classic manifestations of Prameha Upadrava. The persistent Kapha-Pitta dushti in Prameha eventually leads to significant Vata prakopa and Avarana. In the kidneys (Vrukka and Mutravaha Srotas), this manifests as functional impairment and protein leakage (Kleda accumulation and Dhatu Kshaya). In the peripheral nerves, the Vata vitiation causes Supti (numbness) and Daha (burning sensation). The treatment principle focuses on Rasayana (rejuvenation of urinary tissues), Kleda shoshana (managing microalbuminuria), and profound Vata shamana for nerve regeneration. Prescription : For Stage 3a CKD (Renal Preservation & Albuminuria Management) 1. Punarnavadi Kashayam: 15 ml of Kashayam mixed with 45 ml of warm water, to be taken twice daily, 30 minutes before meals. This is essential for nephroprotection, maintaining fluid balance, and clearing sroto-avarodha. 2. Gokshuradi Guggulu: 2 tablets twice daily, taken after meals with warm water. This is the primary targeted formulation for Mutravaha sroto dushti, helping to stabilize the eGFR and support renal architecture. 3. Chandraprabha Vati: 1 tablet twice daily, taken after meals. It is specifically indicated in Prameha complications to actively reduce microalbuminuria and strengthen the urinary tract. For Diabetic Neuropathy 1. Ksheerabala 101 Avarthi Capsules: 1 capsule twice daily, after meals. This is a highly concentrated, powerful neuroprotective that pacifies Vata and deeply nourishes degenerated peripheral nerve tissues. 2. Nishakathakadi Kashayam: 15 ml mixed with 45 ml of warm water, twice daily before meals (can be safely mixed and taken together with the Punarnavadi Kashayam). This formulation is highly specific for stabilizing systemic blood sugar levels and halting further diabetic complications. 3. Ksheerabala Thailam (External): For daily external application. A gentle, downward-stroking massage on the lower limbs before bathing will improve local circulation, relieve stiffness, and reduce neuropathic pain.
