Hello, I’m 35 year old male. Subject: Vata-Pitta Imbalance: Weight Loss, Muscle Tension, and "Ribbon" like small Stool. The Core Issues: • Low Agni: My digestive fire is at roughly 40%. I feel "abnormal fullness" quickly, as if my stomach cannot store or expand for food (which dramatically expands on taking Pitta cooling medicines like Shatavari) • Weight & Vitality: I have lost significant weight due to malabsorption. My libido is very low, though it improves noticeably when I take some random Ayurvedic medicines. • Stomach Tension: I wake up with a "sucked-in," hard, and tight muscular tension in the abdomen. I experience non-acidic burping throughout the day. • Stool Quality: My stools are thin, "ribbon-style," and small. Interestingly, there is no smell to the stool, suggesting a complete lack of "processing" or enzymes. I need a minimalist protocol that balances Vata and Pitta simultaneously. I am looking for a way to: 1. Soften the "hard/sucked-in" abdominal tension (Vayu-Anulomana). 2. Build body weight and Ojas (Brimhana) without overheating my 40% Agni. 3. Restore normal stool bulk and "bounciness" to my stomach. This has been going on for 8 years. Initially it was just farting and burping ( a lot) on eating something. But it gradually came to a point where my stomach doesn’t feel normal ever.

How long have you been experiencing these symptoms?:

- More than 6 years

How would you rate the severity of your abdominal tension?:

- Moderate — affects daily activities

Have you noticed any specific foods that worsen your symptoms?:

How is your appetite throughout the day?:

- Variable — sometimes hungry, sometimes not

How would you describe your energy levels during the day?:

- Moderate — some fatigue

What is your current diet like?:

- Mostly vegetarian

Have you experienced any changes in your stress levels recently?:

- Increased stress

Have you consulted any other healthcare professionals regarding this condition?:

- Yes, with an Ayurvedic practitioner

Your symptoms suggest chronic Vata aggravation with weak Mandagni and secondary Pitta irritation. Long-standing ribbon-like stools should also be medically evaluated once to rule out IBS, chronic colitis, fissure/spasm, or intestinal narrowing. Take Morning empty stomach Warm water with 5 ml cow ghee. After breakfast and dinner Hingvastak Churna 2 grams with first 2 bites of food + 1 tsp ghee. Takrarishta 15 ml + equal water after meals. Night Ashwagandha Churna 3 grams with warm milk or warm water. Avipattikar Churna 2 grams only if heat/burning present. For Vata tension and poor stool bulk: Daily abdominal oil massage with warm sesame oil before bath. Eat soft warm foods rice, moong dal, ghee, cooked vegetables, pomegranate. Avoid fasting, dry foods, excess tea/coffee, spicy packaged foods. For Brimhana and Ojas after digestion improves 2–3 weeks: Shatavari Ghrita 1 tsp twice daily after food.

According to Ayurveda, this appears to be a long-standing Vata aggravation with secondary Pitta imbalance and low Agni. The digestive system has become dry, tense, and irregular, leading to poor digestion, gas, early fullness, weight loss, low strength, and thin stools. –understand it with an example -----Think of the digestive system like a cooking pot on a stove. –In this case: the fire (Agni) is weak and unstable, the pot has become dry and tight because of excess Vata, and a little Pitta heat is irritating the system. So food is not getting “cooked” properly. Instead of moving smoothly, the stomach and intestines become tight and cramped — causing burping, gas, early fullness, weight loss, and thin stools. -If we put heavy food into a weak fire, it cannot digest it. -If we increase the fire too aggressively, the pot gets more irritated and dry. ----rx -1) hingwashtak churn 1 tsf before meal twice daily 2) SYP alkacip 2 tsf in half glass of Luke warm water twice daily after meal 3) Dadimashtaka kwath 20 ml thrice a day after meal 4) tab shatavari 1 tab twice daily after meal 5) avipatikarchurn 1 tsf at night with Luke warm water –Local Abhyanga over abdomen with warm sesame oil daily. —Diet Advice Warm, soft, freshly cooked food Moong khichdi, rice, ghee, cooked vegetables Avoid dry, cold, raw, very spicy, packaged foods Small frequent meals; avoid overeating and fasting —Lifestyle Regular meal timings Adequate sleep Stress reduction, gentle walking after meals Avoid excessive exertion and late nights —Follow-up: 4 weeks for reassessment of Agni, bowel pattern, and weight.

Your symptoms suggest a chronic Vata-Pitta imbalance with Vishama Agni, Apana Vata disturbance, and Dhatu Kshaya. The main aim should be to first stabilize Agni gently, relax abdominal tension, and then rebuild strength and Ojas gradually — not aggressively. Ayurvedic Minimalist Protocol 1. For abdominal tightness, burping & thin stool (Vata Anulomana) Take Hingvashtak Churna ¼ tsp with first 2 bites of lunch & dinner. At bedtime: 1 tsp warm cow ghee in warm water or milk. Avoid dry fasting, raw salads, excess tea/coffee, and very cold foods. 2. To improve Agni without aggravating Pitta Use Shunthi Siddha warm water (light ginger-infused water) in small sips through the day. Eat small but frequent warm meals. Best foods: soft rice, moong dal khichdi, ghee, cooked vegetables, soaked black raisins, dates. 3. For weight loss, low libido & Ojas depletion (Brimhana) Ashwagandha + Shatavari combination works well in Vata-Pitta cases. Simple option: Ashwagandha Churna 3 gm + Shatavari Churna 3 gm with warm milk at night. If digestion feels too weak for milk, take with warm water + ghee. 4. To soften the “sucked-in stomach” feeling Daily gentle abdominal oil massage with warm sesame oil or Bala Ashwagandha taila before bath. Do not overexercise; prefer walking, yoga, deep breathing.

Hello, Managing a chronic Vata-Pitta imbalance with low Agni (digestive fire) requires a sequence: first, clearing the “tightness” (Anulomana), then gradually building tissue (Brimhana). When Agni is at 40%, heavy tonics will cause further stagnation. Your symptoms suggest Samana Vayu and Apana Vayu dysfunction. The “sucked-in” tension is Vata gripping the abdominal muscles, while the “ribbon” stools and lack of odor indicate Mandagni (weak digestion) and Grahani (malabsorption). The stomach expands with Shatavari because it cools the Pitta “burnout” that causes the tissue to contract, but too much cooling can further dampen your Agni. Prescription : 1. To Soften Tension & Redirect Vata (Anulomana) Dhanwantharam Kwath: Take 15 ml diluted with 60 ml boiled and cooled water, twice daily, 30 minutes before food. This is the gold standard for internal Vata-rigidity and abdominal tension. Gandharvahastadi Castor Oil: Take 1 teaspoon mixed into a cup of warm water or ginger tea at bedtime, twice a week. This “scrapes” the intestines and ensures the downward flow of Vata to fix stool shape. 2. To Ignite Agni & Process Nutrients (Deepana-Pachana) Dadimhashtaka Churna: Take 3 grams (approx. 1 tsp) mixed with a little pomegranate juice or warm water after lunch and dinner. It improves stool bulk and absorption without being overly heating for Pitta. 3. To Build Weight & Ojas (Brimhana) Balarishta: Take 20 ml with equal water after food, twice daily. This provides “liquid strength” that is easier to digest than heavy jams or gheos, helping to restore vitality and libido. 4. External Relief for Muscle Rigidity Dhanwantharam Thailam: Warm the oil and apply a gentle, clockwise massage to the abdomen for 10 minutes before your morning bath. This directly addresses the “hard/sucked-in” feeling by relaxing the local nerves. Avoid raw salads or cold water, which freeze Vata. Stick to Laja Manda (puffed rice water) or well-cooked Mung Dal Khichdi with a teaspoon of Ghee. The Ghee is essential; it is the only substance that increases Agni while calming both Vata and Pitta simultaneously.

Hello dear, Your symptoms are likely to be due to your lifestyle routine… look upon that… firstly try to set your routine according to circadian rhythm. Try to wake up when sun rises. Do some yoga or stretch work in morning. Take soaked black raisin in the morning first then after 30-40 min you can take your breakfast. Any meal of your day should be warm, freshly prepared. Try to avoid curd, cheese, chilled water or soft drinks, packed food. Try to take 2-3 spoon/day of pure cow ghee in your diet. Avoid day sleep and walk 200 steps after each meal. Take early dinner and avoid late night awakening if possible. Incorporate one fruit at a time. Don’t take all fruit altogether. Try to massage your foot every night for around 10 minutes with Brahmi or sesame oil. All these gives you relief from your symptoms. If you wanna take medicine then you can take: Mahashankh vati 2-0-2 after food Manasmitra vati 1 tab at night Aampachak vati 2-0-2 after food If weakness or constant fatigue take Laghumalini vasant 2-0-2 Continue this medicine for a month and then take follow up… don’t take any medication yourself. And also check if any food items or any running medication causes these symptoms

Your symptoms strongly suggest a chronic Vata-Pitta imbalance with grahani involvement (malabsorption/irregular digestion). The “sucked-in abdomen,” excessive burping, variable appetite, thin stools, weight loss, and stress-related worsening often happen when Vata becomes aggravated in the gut and weakens Agni over time. The good thing: this has been chronic, but it is still manageable—you likely need gentle correction, not very strong medicines. Ayurvedic medicines (minimal approach) Hingwashtak Churna – ½ tsp with first few bites of lunch and dinner (helps gas, bloating, abdominal tightness, Vata anulomana) Avipattikar Churna – ½ tsp at bedtime with warm water (if there is heat/acid tendency or burning) Dadimashtaka Churna – ½ tsp twice daily after food (helps improve digestion without aggravating Pitta) Ashwagandha Lehyam – 1 tsp at bedtime with warm milk/water (for weight gain, strength, libido, Ojas support) If stools remain very thin and incomplete: Takra Siddha with roasted jeera + pinch of rock salt after lunch can help grahani and improve stool formation. Diet advice Eat small frequent meals instead of heavy meals Prefer warm, freshly cooked food Rice, moong dal khichdi, ghee, ripe banana (if suits), soaked almonds, dates milk can help healthy weight gain Avoid excessive fasting, raw salads, cold drinks, packaged foods, and excess tea/coffee Avoid frequently switching medicines on your own Lifestyle Practice stress reduction (pranayama/walking) because stress clearly worsens your digestion Sleep on time Avoid overeating even on days when appetite feels better Since weight loss has been ongoing for years, it would also be wise to rule out issues like IBS, malabsorption syndromes, thyroid issues, or gut infections for further evaluation please consult me Your body sounds more depleted than damaged—once digestion is stabilized gradually, weight, stool quality, and energy often improve well. Be patient and consistent.

Hello doctor! Thanks for the reply. Just to mention here that I don’t have diarrhoea or anything like it. Dadimashtak churna is still ok for my conditions, right?

This is a classic case of deeply aggravated Samana and Apana Vata creating chronic spasms in your intestinal walls and abdominal muscles. When Vata (air/ether) dominates the gut, it creates a drying, constricting effect. This physical constriction is why your stomach feels tight, why you experience early satiety, and why your colon is literally squeezing the stool into thin ribbons. The lack of smell in your stool and your 40% digestive fire indicate Mandagni. Your body is lacking Pachaka Pitta (digestive enzymes), meaning food is passing through without undergoing proper chemical breakdown (Paka). However, because Pitta-cooling herbs like Shatavari provide relief, your gut is highly inflamed and sensitive to heat. We need a minimalist, highly targeted protocol of Snigdha (unctuous/lubricating) and Brimhana (nourishing) therapies that relax the spasms and build weight, without suffocating your fragile digestive fire. ✓Ayurvedic Action Plan 1. Dadimadi Ghrita (The Primary Corrector) Dosage: 1 teaspoon twice a day. Time: 15 minutes before your lunch and dinner. Vehicle: A small sip of warm water. 2. Vidaryadi Kashayam Dosage: 15 ml mixed with 15 ml of warm water. Time: Twice a day, 30 minutes after your meals. 3. Nabhi Purana and Swedana (Physical Release) Procedure: Every night before bed, pool 4 to 5 drops of warm Sesame oil or Mahanarayan oil in your navel (Nabhi). Leave it for 15 minutes. Follow this immediately with a mild Swedana (fomentation) using a hot water bottle over your entire lower abdomen for 10 minutes. ✓Crucial Care Rules Stop All Raw and Dry Foods: You must absolutely eliminate raw salads, dry crackers, popcorn, and cold smoothies. Your gut lacks the heat and moisture to process them. Every single meal must be warm, cooked, and naturally moist (like well-cooked stews, soups and khichdi). Diaphragmatic Breathing: Your increased stress levels are directly feeding the abdominal tension. Before eating any meal, take 5 deep, slow breaths, ensuring your stomach physically expands outward on the inhale. This signals the vagus nerve to exit “fight or flight” mode, allowing the digestive tract to open up and receive food. Hydration with Warm Water: Never drink cold water. Keep a thermos of warm water and take small, frequent sips throughout the day to continuously encourage downward Vata movement. Regards, Dr. Gursimranjeet Singh MD Panchakarma

Your symptoms suggest a long-standing Vata aggravation with depleted digestion and tissue nourishment. The abdominal tightness, early fullness, burping, low weight, and thin stool indicate poor movement and weak digestive transformation happening together. The main goal now should be to calm Vata first and support Agni gently without overheating Pitta. Avoid fasting, raw foods, cold drinks, excess salads, dry foods, and overuse of cooling herbs. Keep meals warm, soft, mildly spiced, and regular. Small frequent meals will suit you better than large meals. Do not overload digestion with too many medicines together. Stress management and proper sleep are also important because chronic nervous tension can keep the abdomen contracted. Morning: Warm water with small pinch dry ginger + little ghee Before meals: A small piece of fresh ginger with few drops lemon and pinch rock salt if tolerated At home, gentle sesame oil application over abdomen followed by mild warmth can help reduce the “sucked-in” tension and support Vata movement. Hingvastak churna – ½ teaspoon with first few bites of lunch and dinner Avipattikar tablet – 1 tablet at bedtime if heat or fullness increases Ashwagandha capsule – 1 capsule at bedtime with warm milk or water Dadimashtak churna – ½ teaspoon after meals twice daily This approach should help improve digestion gradually, soften abdominal tension, improve stool form, and support healthy weight gain without aggravating Pitta. Since symptoms are long-standing with ribbon-like stool and weight loss, proper medical evaluation including gut assessment is also important if not done recently. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)
