According to Ayurveda, Haritaki (kali harad) usually supports digestion and cleansing, but prolonged or excess use may sometimes increase Pitta or cause mild dehydration, which can lead to a slight increase in heartbeat in sensitive individuals. –stop it for a few days, maintain proper hydration, and observe the pulse. If the heartbeat remains elevated, then consult

Regular long term use of Kali Harad (Haritaki) can increase Vata in some people, which may cause slight increase in heart rate or palpitations. Stop Haritaki for 10 to 15 days and observe heart rate Ashwagandha 1 gram twice daily with warm milk Jatamansi 500 mg at night with water or milk Avoid tea, coffee, stress, and take warm, light food If heart rate remains high, check BP, thyroid and ECG to rule out other causes

Hello, While Kali Harad (Laghu Haritaki) is generally used in Ayurveda for digestive health and detoxification, its prolonged or improper use can sometimes lead to an increase in heart rate (tachycardia) or palpitations. In Ayurveda, Haritaki is considered “Ushna Virya” (hot in potency). If consumed for an extended period (like 4 months) without supervision, it can aggravate Pitta and Vayu. When Vayu (Vata) is aggravated in the heart region (Hridaya), it can manifest as an irregular or increased heart rate. Additionally, its “Lekhana” (scraping) property can sometimes cause dryness or stimulation that affects sensitive individuals. It is also important to note that Haritaki is contraindicated in cases of extreme exhaustion, severe dehydration, or high Pitta conditions. Prescription : 1. Arjunarishtam This is the primary cardiac tonic. It strengthens the heart muscles and regulates the heart rate. Dose: 15 ml to 25 ml mixed with an equal amount of lukewarm water, twice daily after meals. 2. Kshirabala 101 Capsules This helps in calming the nervous system and balancing Vata, which helps if the palpitations are stress or dryness-related. Dose: 1 capsule twice daily before food with warm water or milk. It is highly recommended that your husband stops taking the Kali Harad immediately to see if the heart rate stabilizes. Ensure he increases his intake of cooling liquids like coconut water or pomegranate juice.

Regular use of Haritaki (Kali Harad) is generally considered safe in Ayurveda when taken in the correct dose and according to body constitution. It is not commonly known to directly increase heart rate. However, in some individuals, prolonged or excessive use may aggravate Vata and Pitta dosha, leading to symptoms like mild palpitations, restlessness, dryness, anxiety, or a slightly faster heartbeat — especially if the person is naturally lean, stressed, dehydrated, or taking it daily without breaks. Since your husband has only a slight increase in heart rate for less than a week and no other symptoms, it may not be serious, but it is advisable to: Stop or reduce Kali Harad for 7–10 days and observe. Ensure good hydration and proper sleep. Avoid taking it on an empty stomach if he is doing so. Use a smaller dose (if restarting later) and preferably Include cooling and nourishing foods like ghee, soaked raisins, or fennel water to balance Pitta-Vata.
