Persistent numbness after wrist fracture may mean ongoing median nerve compression or nerve injury. Since steroid injection did not help and numbness increases on lifting arm, consult an orthopedic hand surgeon or neurologist. Nerve conduction study may be needed. Hello, Persistent numbness and tingling after a wrist fracture especially when it worsens with arm elevation and fails to respond to local steroid injections often indicates that the compression may not be limited to the carpal tunnel. In Ayurveda, this is viewed as Vishwachi or Vata Vyadhi, where aggravated Vata dosha causes “Suptata” (numbness) and “Chimchimayanat” (tingling) due to nerve involvement or restricted circulation. The trauma of the fracture and subsequent immobilization can lead to Margavarodha (blockage of channels). Since lifting the arm exacerbates the symptoms, there may be involvement of the cervical nerves or brachial plexus, suggesting that the Vata imbalance is higher up in the neck or shoulder region. Prescription : 1. Ksheerabala (101) Capsules A potent, fortified version of Ksheerabala oil used for nerve rejuvenation and pain relief. Dose: 1 capsule twice daily, roughly 30 minutes before food with warm water. 2. Maharasnadi Kwatham (Tablets) A traditional formula used for systemic Vata disorders, specifically those affecting the upper extremities and nerves. Dose: 2 tablets twice daily after food with warm water. 3. Balarishta A fermented liquid preparation that acts as a restorative tonic for the nervous and muscular systems. Dose: 20 ml mixed with an equal quantity of lukewarm water, twice daily after meals. 4. Kottamchukkadi Thailam (External) For external application to reduce swelling and improve local circulation. Usage: Apply warm oil gently from the neck down to the fingertips. Leave for 30 minutes before a warm bath. Avoid applying heavy pressure to the previous fracture site.
Persistent numbness and tingling after wrist fracture can happen due to nerve compression or irritation, especially if symptoms increase on lifting the arm and gripping objects. Since steroid injection has not helped and fingertip numbness is constant now, proper nerve evaluation is important. Avoid prolonged wrist bending, excessive phone holding, or pressure on the wrist. A wrist support at night may help reduce nerve irritation. Do not do aggressive massage or heavy exercises on the wrist right now. At home: Warm sesame oil or Mahanarayana taila gentle application around wrist and forearm followed by mild warm fomentation may help circulation and stiffness. Yograj Guggulu – 1 tablet twice daily after food Ashwagandha capsule – 1 capsule at bedtime Dashmoolarishta – 15 ml with equal water twice daily after food This may help reduce inflammation and support nerve recovery gradually. Since numbness is persistent and worsening with arm position, nerve conduction study (NCS) or orthopedic/neurology follow-up is strongly advisable to assess ongoing nerve compression.
