Chandan Bala Lakshadi Tel: Benefits and Uses of This Traditional Ayurvedic Oil

Written by
Dr. Harsha Joy

I am Dr. Harsha Joy, and I mostly work with women who are struggling with stuff like hormonal issues, skin flare-ups, hair thinning, or fertility troubles that don't always have one straight answer. Over the years, I’ve realised that real healing doesn’t come from a standard protocol—it comes when you actually sit with a person, understand what their day looks like, how they eat sleep think feel. That’s where Ayurveda makes all the sense in the world to me. My clinical work revolves around women’s health—especially gynecology and infertility care. Many women who reach out to me have tried many things, felt confused or unheard. Whether it’s PCOS, irregular cycles, or just feeling "off" hormonally, I try to look at the root imbalance—agni, ama, ojas—basic Ayurvedic fundamentals that still explain modern conditions better than most charts or labels. Fertility support is something close to my heart... we don’t rush anything. It’s more like—let’s fix the ecosystem inside first. I also work with chronic skin and hair problems. Acne that just won't leave, hyperpigmentation, postpartum hair loss, oily scalp with dandruff... and again, for these too, it’s usually not a skin problem. It’s digestion, stress, sleep, circulation—internal stuff showing up outside. We work with diet tweaks, gut reset, herbs, maybe some lepas or sneha therapy—but always after tuning into what *your* body wants. Outside my clinic I write a lot. I'm part of content teams that simplify Ayurveda into understandable bits—whether it's about hormonal balance or skincare or daily routines. Writing has helped me reach people who aren’t ready to consult but want to start somewhere. And I think that matters too. I don’t believe in intense detoxes or piling on medicines. The work I do is slow, layered, sometimes messy—but that's healing. That’s what I try to offer—whether someone walks in with hair loss or years of failed fertility cycles. Every body has its own story and my job’s just to hear it right. Maybe guide it back home.

Introduction to Chandan Bala Lakshadi Tel

Chandan Bala Lakshadi Tel is a revered Ayurvedic oil that combines the healing properties of natural ingredients like sandalwood, bala, and laksha. Known for its rejuvenating effects, this oil is widely used in Ayurveda to promote healthy skin, relieve inflammation, and improve overall wellness. Its cooling and calming properties make it an excellent remedy for a variety of skin conditions, body pains, and stress-related issues.

Historical Roots & Ayurvedic Significance

In Ayurvedic traditions, oils like Chandan Bala Lakshadi Tel are integral for both therapeutic and cosmetic purposes. The combination of sandalwood (Chandan), Bala, and Laksha has been used for centuries to enhance skin health, reduce pitta-related ailments, and soothe the body. It is especially beneficial for cooling the body, making it ideal for conditions exacerbated by heat, such as skin rashes, inflammation, and joint pain.

Key Ingredients & Therapeutic Benefits

1. Herbal Composition

Chandan Bala Lakshadi Tel contains several key herbs, each chosen for their unique benefits:

  • Sandalwood (Chandan): Known for its soothing, cooling properties, sandalwood helps reduce inflammation and skin irritation.
  • Bala (Sida cordifolia): A powerful herb used in Ayurvedic medicine to support joint health, muscle strength, and overall rejuvenation.
  • Laksha (Laccifer lacca): Resins from this tree are known for their healing properties, especially in skin-related issues like rashes and acne.
  • Other Ingredients: The oil may also contain additional herbs like Manjistha and Turmeric, which are known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

2. Skin Health & Rejuvenation

One of the primary benefits of Chandan Bala Lakshadi Tel is its ability to rejuvenate and refresh the skin. The cooling properties of sandalwood reduce redness and irritation, while the other herbs help to detoxify and nourish the skin. It is particularly useful for treating conditions like acne, eczema, and sunburn.

3. Reducing Inflammation & Joint Pain

The anti-inflammatory properties of Bala and Laksha make this oil an effective remedy for pain relief, particularly for joint and muscle pain. Regular massage with Chandan Bala Lakshadi Tel can help soothe inflamed areas, reduce stiffness, and promote better mobility, making it a useful treatment for conditions like arthritis.

4. Stress Relief & Relaxation

This oil’s calming effects extend beyond skin and joint health. It can also be used for stress relief, as the soothing fragrance of sandalwood has a natural calming effect on the mind. Regular application may help reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality, supporting mental well-being.

How Chandan Bala Lakshadi Tel Works: The Science Behind the Oil

Chandan Bala Lakshadi Tel works by harnessing the natural healing properties of its herbal components. The oil penetrates the skin and enhances circulation, allowing the active compounds to reduce inflammation and promote detoxification. The combination of these herbs helps restore balance to the body, providing holistic benefits for both skin and muscle health.

Start by doing a patch test, like maybe on your wrist, just to be safe. Mix a few drops of the sandalwood oil with a carrier oil like coconut or almond oil, since diluting helps keep it gentle on sensitive skin. Use it every other day at first and just be mindful of any changes—your skin will tell ya!
How do I determine which Ayurvedic oil is best for my specific skin condition?

To find the right Ayurvedic oil for your skin, consider your dosha (like Pitta, Vata, or Kapha), as imbalances can affect skin conditions. If you have sensitive, irritated skin, oils with cooling and soothing herbs like sandalwood might help. For thicker, more oily skin issues, something with turmeric could be beneficial. It's best to understand your skin type related to your dosha!
