Dr. Ayush Varma
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)
I am an Ayurvedic physician with an MD from AIIMS—yeah, the 2008 batch. That time kinda shaped everything for me... learning at that level really forces you to think deeper, not just follow protocol. Now, with 15+ years in this field, I mostly work with chronic stuff—autoimmune issues, gut-related problems, metabolic syndrome... those complex cases where symptoms overlap n patients usually end up confused after years of going in circles. I don’t rush to treat symptoms—I try to dig into what’s actually causing the system to go off-track. I guess that’s where my training really helps, especially when blending classical Ayurveda with updated diagnostics. I did get certified in Panchakarma & Rasayana therapy, which I use quite a lot—especially in cases where tissue-level nourishment or deep detox is needed. Rasayana has this underrated role in post-illness recovery n immune stabilization, which most people miss. I’m pretty active in clinical research too—not a full-time academic or anything, but I’ve contributed to studies on how Ayurveda helps manage diabetes, immunity burnout, stress dysregulation, things like that. It’s been important for me to keep a foot in that evidence-based space—not just because of credibility but because it keeps me from becoming too rigid in practice. I also get invited to speak at wellness events n some integrative health conferences—sharing ideas around patient-centered treatment models or chronic care via Ayurvedic frameworks. I practice full-time at a wellness centre that’s serious about Ayurveda—not just the spa kind—but real, protocol-driven, yet personalised medicine. Most of my patients come to me after trying a lot of other options, which makes trust-building a huge part of what I do every single day.

Ayurveda healing for Ophthalmology

The eye is the most important sense organ and it directly linked to the brain. It is a very sensitive organ that is extremely close to the working of the human brain.  Eye diseases like myopia, cataract, glaucoma, and retinopathy are common.

Eyes are critical to the quality of life, these are the windows to the world and the soul. Vision is one of the five sensory organs that is used in Ayurvedic healing. Eye diseases today are very popular, which is partly caused by a number of fast life factors – long working hours at computers, poor eating habits, insufficient sleep hours, stress and so on.  Also occur from long hours of watching TV, constantly reading small prints, inappropriate head position

What Causes Ophthalmology?

It seems there might be a misunderstanding in your question. Ophthalmology is a medical specialty focused on the study and treatment of eye disorders, and it is not typically considered a condition or something that “causes” issues. If you are referring to the causes of eye disorders or conditions related to ophthalmology, such as cataracts, glaucoma, or refractive errors, they can arise from various factors like age, genetics, environmental influences, and underlying health conditions. Clarifying your question might help provide a more accurate response.

Ways to Prevent Eye diseases According to Ayurveda

  • Eye Hygiene: Maintain cleanliness by washing eyes regularly.

  • Balanced Diet: Adopt an Ayurvedic diet with eye-friendly nutrients.

  • Herbal Eye Care: Use triphala for eye health, either in eye washes or supplements.

  • Avoid Eye Strain: Practice eye exercises and take breaks to prevent strain.

  • Ayurvedic Therapies: Consider Netra Tarpana for eye rejuvenation using medicated ghee.

Yep, Ayurveda suggests avoiding foods that may aggravate the pitta dosha, which can affect eye health. Spicy, sour, and oily stuff like chilies, fermented foods, and really greasy dishes might be best to limit a bit. You might want to incorporate cooling foods like cucumber, sweet fruits, and leafy greens to balance things out. 😊

Finding a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for eye health is a great step. Look for someone who has a background in Ayurvedic medicine and experience specifically in eye health. You could search in local holistic health directories or ask for recommendations from wellness centers or forums online. Checking credentials and reviews can also be really helpful, just to make sure you're in good hands.

Ayurveda suggests exercises like Trataka, which involves gazing at a candle flame without blinking to strengthen eye muscles and improve focus. Also, Palming is relaxing—just rub your hands, cup them over your closed eyes. Eye rotations and blinking exercises help too! But it's best to balance your Pitta with diet n' lifestyle changes for overall eye health.

To start with Ayurvedic eye exercises, focus on simple practices like palming (rubbing your palms and placing them over your eyes). Also, try gently rolling eyes in circles or focusing on a near object then a far one. Make it a part of your morning or night routine for 5-10 mins. Keeping pitta in check is crucial too, so, try cooling practices like cucumber slices on eyes.

To find a good Ayurvedic practitioner for eye health, look for someone with solid credentials and experience, maybe from a recognized Ayurvedic institution. You might wanna check reviews or get recommendations from people who've had similar concerns. It's important that they take into account your dosha imbalances and digestion, aiming for a holistic treatment. Let me know if you need more detailed advice!

Ayurvedic practices suggest some simple exercises like "Trataka," which involves focusing on a single point or flame, and "Palming," where you rub your hands together to warm them and gently cup your eyes. These help in relaxing eye muscles and improving focus. Remember, balance is key, so also pay attention to nourishing foods and oils.
