Doctors’ responses

After experiencing an acute kidney infection due to malaria and undergoing dialysis, it's crucial to focus on supporting kidney recovery and managing proteinuria and high creatinine. Ayurvedic remedies can help promote kidney health by addressing inflammation and detoxification. Herbs like Punarnava and Gokshura support kidney function and reduce creatinine levels, while Ashwagandha and Shatavari aid in reducing inflammation and stress. Amla and Coriander seeds can help detoxify the kidneys and flush out toxins, while Brahmi improves kidney health and reduces oxidative stress. Medicated ghee’s like Varunadi or Punarnavadi ghritham helps in later stages. A kidney-friendly diet rich in hydration, cooling foods, and reduced protein and salt intake is essential, alongside regular yoga and pranayama (breathing exercises) to promote healing. Panchakarma therapy, performed under the guidance of an Ayurvedic practitioner, can further support detoxification and kidney rejuvenation. It’s important to consult with both an Ayurvedic Doctor and your healthcare provider to create a safe, holistic treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Dealing with lingering proteinuria and elevated creatinine after such an ordeal definitely isn't easy. Acute kidney issues post-malaria, then losing time on dialysis and steroids, it sounds like you've been through a lot. Let's look into how Ayurveda could lend a supportive hand in your recovery. Firstly, it's important to ensure that your primary treatment plan with your healthcare provider is being strictly followed. This is crucial. Ayurveda can serve as a complementary approach here, rather than a replacement. In Ayurveda, kidney function is heavily tied to dosha imbalances, especially those involving Vata and Kapha. Digestive fire, or agni, plays a significant role here as well because it's involved in nutrient assimilation and waste elimination. For proteinuria and creatinine levels, maintaining strong digestion and metabolism is key. Start with your diet. Think sattvic – light and easy to digest meals are your go-to. Good old mung dal khichdi with cumin and turmeric, maybe add just a hint of rock salt, could be your staple. Avoid too much protein and cut down on salt. Herbal help? Consider herbs like Punarnava and Gokshura. These are known for helping kidneys function optimally. Make a decoction – take a teaspoon of these in a cup of water, boil down till half, and drink, perhaps twice a day, after meals. Kidneys hate stress, apparently. So in addition to physical aid, incorporate some calming practices. Regular pranayama, especially Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing), can help soothe both mind and body. Stress reduction is vital here. Hydration is as important but not overdoing it. Let your thirst guide you. If symptoms worsen, see your doc immediately, don't delay. Always keep them in the loop about any new things you try. Little steps towards stability, ayurveda doesn't promise overnight magic but takes a patient path. Keep faith and consistency with it – hang in there!
