how to reduce heat in body - #35909

I am struggling with this really annoying problem of feeling hot all the time, like, no matter what season it is! The other day, I was at my friend's wedding, and while everyone was enjoying the warm sun, I was just sitting in the shade, sweating buckets. It was super embarrassing! I've been trying to figure out how to reduce heat in body for a while now, but nothing seems to work. I've noticed I get these hot flashes, especially after meals, and sometimes even at night, which is the worst! My skin gets really flushed, and I kinda feel drained afterwards. I tried drinking more water thinking that would help cool me down, but that just made me have to run to the bathroom more often! I did some research and saw stuff about how certain foods can, like, increase the heat in the body but I really don’t know what to avoid. I feel like, maybe I'm eating too many spicy things or something! Could this be affecting me? Also, what other simple ways are there to how to reduce heat in body naturally? I'm really looking for tips that are easy to follow since I'm not super into complicated routines. Anyway, any help or advice would be super appreciated!!! Txs!

Experiencing persistent body heat can definitely be bothersome, especially if it leads to those uncomfortable moments during social events. In Ayurveda, it’s important to understand the balance of doshas, in your case, it seems you might be dealing with an imbalance of Pitta dosha, which is typically characterized by heat in the body. Here’s what you can do to address this:

Let’s start with your diet. As it turns out, spicy, acidic, and fried foods can indeed increase Pitta, leading to more heat in the body. Try reducing intake of these foods, along with sour fruits (like oranges and tomatoes), caffeinated beverages, and alcohol, all of which contribute to raising body temperature. Instead, incorporate cooling foods like cucumbers, watermelon, coconut water, and sweet fruits. Also, drink cooling herbal teas made from ingredients like mint, fennel, or coriander—they’re quite effective!

Timing is crucial too. Avoid eating large, heavy meals close to bedtime, as digestion generates heat. Opt for lighter dinners, focusing on easily digestable foods like vegetable soups or steamed greens. Incorporating a handful of soaked almonds can also help, provided it doesn’t cause indigestion.

For lifestyle adjustments, consider integrating the regular practice of cooling pranayama techniques like Sheetali or Sheetkari. These are breathing exercises aimed at reducing heat within and are best practiced early in the day on an empty stomach. Make sure you’re in a relaxed setting, which can be as simple as finding a quiet corner at home or in your garden.

Daily application of cooling oils like Brahmi or coconut oil on the scalp and body before showering might be soothing. These oils have a naturally calming effect on your body heat.

Avoid strenuous exercise during peak heat hours; early morning or evening exercises are a better fit since they’re less likely to cause overheating. A brisk walk or gentle yoga can be refreshing without overly exerting your body.

Dress in light, breathable clothing, and keep your environment cool and airy where possible. Run fans or open windows to let air circulate, and consider using light-colored linens to help absorb less heat.

These simple changes, taken together, should offer substantial relief and help in restoring balance. If the issue persists, it would be valuable to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can provide a personalized assessment based on your unique constitution and lifestyle.

Feeling excessive heat can indeed be uncomfortable. Within the Siddha-Ayurvedic framework, this may suggest an imbalance in your pitta dosha, which governs heat, metabolism, and transformation in the body. Let’s explore some practical steps to help you balance pitta and reduce body heat.

First, consider your diet. Spicy and oily foods, caffeine, alcohol, and fermented items can increase pitta. Try to reduce their intake. Focus on cooling foods like cucumbers, melons, sweet fruits, and leafy greens. Dairy products like milk and ghee can be soothing, but with moderation if you have any intolerance. Cooked foods are generally better for digestion than raw ones.

Hydration is crucial, but balance is key. Opt for coconut water or cold herbal teas like chrysanthemum or mint throughout the day. Avoid ice-cold drinks, as they can disturb digestive fire. Instead, aim for beverages at room temperature as a good compromise.

Incorporate some lifestyle changes too—avoid working in hot temperatures or stressful environments as much as possible. Regular practice of calming yoga or pranayama (breathing exercises), focusing on cooling breaths, can help maintain balance. Yoga poses like the moon salutation, forward bends, and twists can help soothe the system.

Apply cooling oils like sandalwood or coconut oil to your skin before morning or evening baths. These can help reduce heat and soothe the skin. Bathing with lukewarm rather than hot water is preferable too.

Lastly, maintain a regular, calming routine. The body’s internal clock can better handle fluctuations when you have set habits in sleep, meals, and work. It may be beneficial to consider a detailed assessment with a Siddha-Ayurvedic practitioner for formulation tailored to your unique constitution if these issues persist. If the symptoms worsen, it’s wise to seek medical advice to rule out underlying conditions.
