how to reduce body heat ayurveda - #36200

I am really struggling with feeling super hot all the time, especially this summer! Like, I can't even go outside without feeling drained, and my skin feels like it's on fire. I'm not sure what's causing it, but it’s been a few months now. I've tried drinking more water and staying in the shade, but i don't feel like it's helping that much. I heard about Ayurveda and am curious about how to reduce body heat ayurveda style. My digestion has been off too, maybe some kind of pitta imbalance? My nose keeps getting stuffy, and I sweat a lot, even when I'm just sitting around. Plus, I tend to crave cool foods like salads and yogurt, but sometimes even they don't help. What are some natural ways to reduce body heat ayurveda suggests? I've thought about trying some herbal teas or something, but I'm honestly not sure where to start. Do you think specific foods or practices can really help with this? I read that things like mint and coconut might be good, is that true? I just want to feel normal again without always battling this heat sensation!

It sounds like you might be experiencing an imbalance of Pitta dosha, which in Ayurveda is known for generating heat in the body. To help pacify excess Pitta, Ayurveda suggests several dietary and lifestyle mods that can make a significant difference. Yes, diet does play a crucial role in managing body heat, and things like coconut water and mint can indeed have cooling effects.

Start with incorporating cooling foods. Emphasize on foods that naturally decrease heat, like cucumber, watermelon, coconut water (as you mentioned), and sweet, bitter, and astringent tastes. Foods like yogurt are cooling but taken with sugar or sweet fruits can help enhance its benefits. Avoid spicy, salty, sour and fried foods as these can aggravate Pitta and worsen the sensation of heat.

Drinking herbal teas such as chamomile, mint, or fennel can help, too. These herbs are not just cooling, but also support the digestive system. Make sure to drink these slightly warm—or room temperature—not too hot or cold.

Aloe vera juice is another effective remedy when taken moderately. You can blend fresh aloe gel with water for a calming drink.

In terms of lifestyle, avoid excessive sun exposure and opt for light-colored, cotton clothing. Incorporate pranayama practices like Sheetali and Sheetkari (cooling breath) that help regulate body temperature and reduce stress.

Try Triphala at bedtime because it’s balancing for all three doshas and helps with digestion, there by reducing internal heat build-up.

Tulsi, or holy basil, though warming, is an exception as it also helps in maintaining balance in Pitta.

Remember, though Ayurveda provides countless natural ways to balance body heat, it’s essential to consult with a qualified practitioner to ensure suitability for your specific situation, especially if symptoms persist.

The symptoms you’re experiencing indeed suggest a pitta imbalance, which can cause excessive body heat and related issues like the ones you’ve described. In Siddha-Ayurveda, we focus on cooling the body and balancing the pitta through diet, lifestyle, and herbal remedies. Let’s explore some practical steps you can take to find relief.

First, consider introducing certain cooling foods into your diet. You mentioned an inclination towards salads and yogurt, which are beneficial. Include cucumbers, watermelon, and ripe mangoes, which are hydrating and naturally cool the body. Additionally, coconut water is an excellent choice for reducing heat; it helps soothe the body from within. However, don’t go overboard with yogurt, consume it in moderation around mid-day when digestion is stronger.

Regarding herbal teas, you mentioned mint, and it is indeed a great option. Peppermint and fennel teas have cooling properties. You can also try coriander seed tea: lightly crush a teaspoon of coriander seeds, boil in water, strain, and enjoy the cool drink. Such teas can be sipped throughout the day to keep body temperature in check.

For lifestyle modifications, ensure you engage in calming activities. Excessive exercise or being in a hot environment can aggravate pitta. Practicing yoga with a focus on calming asanas like forward bends and twists can be beneficial. Pranayama techniques like Sheetali or Sheetkari (cooling breaths) are also effective.

Finally, use natural oils like sandalwood or jasmine for their cooling properties. A few drops mixed with a carrier oil can be applied on the temples or used in a bath.

These suggestions align with the principles of reducing excess heat. However, if symptoms persist or worsen, consulting an Ayurvedic practitioner for a detailed personal consultation is recommended, as they can offer more personalized advice considering your prakriti and current health status.
