can we drink hot water in copper bottle - #36830

I am really curious about this hot water thing. Lately, I've been hearing all this buzz about drinking hot water from a copper bottle, but I can't help but wonder, can we drink hot water in copper bottle? I mean, I just switched to using a copper bottle for my water, mainly because a friend swears by its health benefits. But now I’m stressing over whether drinking hot water in it is safe or if I’m making a total mistake! The other day, I heated some water and poured it into my copper bottle, thinking it would help with my digestion issues, which have been crazy lately. Like, I feel bloated all the time and stuffy. But after I did that, I started thinking, wait, can we drink hot water in copper bottle or is that kind of bad. Is there any risk of the copper reacting with hot water? I guess I could just drink room-temperature water, which I usually do, but there’s something about the heat that just feels soothing. I've read conflicting opinions online and honestly, that has me more confused. Some say it's great for detox, others seem super cautious. What do you all think? Can I keep sipping my hot water from this copper bottle or should I just stick to cold? Would love any insights!!!

Drinking water stored in a copper bottle has numerous benefits, according to Ayurveda, but there’s also some important considerations to keep in mind. In Ayurveda, copper is known to have properties that help balance all three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. It’s known for aiding digestion, enhancing the immune system, and even supporting the skin. However, when it comes to drinking hot water from a copper bottle, caution is advised.

Copper can naturally oxidize and form copper oxide which might dissolve into hot liquids. Drinking water that’s been in prolonged contact with copper, especially hot water, may increase copper levels in your body. Consuming excess copper can lead to side effects like nausea, dizziness, or even disruptions in liver function. The issue with hot water is that heat can accelerate the leaching of copper ions into the water, compared with room temperature or cold water.

With your specific digestion concerns like bloating, drinking warm water might indeed be soothing and help stimulate your digestion according to Ayurvedic principles. But it’s better to warm your water in another vessel before transferring it to a copper bottle, allowing it to cool down to a more tepid, safer temperature before drinking. Alternatively, you could enjoy your warm water from glass or stainless steel, then drink room-temperature water from the copper bottle at other times of the day.

Also, remember not to store water in copper containers for more than 6 to 8 hours to avoid any potential over-exposure to copper. Regularly cleaning your copper bottle is crucial to prevent copper oxide buildup — using lemon juice or a solution of salt and vinegar works well without harsh chemicals. To address bloating, consider incorporating fresh ginger or fennel seeds into your warm water routine as they are known in Ayurveda for supporting digestion.
