how long does it take for shilajit to work - #38713

Grace

I am really curious about this whole shilajit thing. A couple months ago, I started feeling super drained and sluggish, like no energy at all. My doctor said I might be low on minerals or something. Anyway, I read that shilajit can help boost energy levels and I thought, why not? I got some from a local shop, and I'm really trying to figure out, how long does it take for shilajit to work? I've been taking it daily for about three weeks now, but honestly, I can’t tell if it’s actually doing anything. Some days I feel a bit more energized, but then other days, like yesterday, I was just totally wiped again. Like, I really want this to work! I’ve heard people rave about shilajit and its benefits, but the waiting is kinda making me restless. Can someone share their experience with how long does it take for shilajit to work for them? Also, should I be taking it with something special to make it more effective? I wonder if I’m even taking the right dosage. Any tips or thoughts would be super helpful! Thanks, everyone!

Doctors' responses

When looking into the effects of shilajit, it’s important to remember that individual responses can vary significantly. Generally, shilajit can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks to start showing noticeable benefits, depending on various factors such as your unique body constitution (prakriti), level of imbalance (vikriti), and current lifestyle choices. It seems you’ve been using shilajit for about three weeks, which should typically be enough time to notice some changes, though this isn’t absolute. Your experiences of energy fluctuations could point toward an ongoing adjustment period—your body might still be in the process of rebalancing.

In Ayurveda, shilajit is known as a Rasayana, meaning it’s a rejuvenative substance, and its effectiveness often depends on the underlying doshic imbalance and how well it’s being absorbed by body. Before jumping into the optimal dosage, consider if your agni (digestive fire) is strong enough to assimilate the properties effectively. Sometimes, if agni is weak, no matter how potent the substance, its effects won’t show well. Supporting your digestive system with herbs like trikatu (a blend of ginger, black pepper, and long pepper) can help enhance assimilation.

Your dosage is crucial: often shilajit is advised in small doses ranging from 300-500 mg per day. Taking it with warm milk or honey can help its absorption and enhance its energizing properties, as shilajit is believed to synergize with these substances better. Timing is another factor; usually it’s taken in the morning to support the body’s natural rhythms.

Also, incorporating a sattvic diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts can help support energy levels naturally. Additionally, practices such as yoga and pranayama can work in tandem with shilajit to bolster vitality by supporting holistic well-being. If there’s still no discernable change, or if you continue to feel “wiped out,” it could be beneficial to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can offer a personalized assessment, ensuring there aren’t other factors or deficiencies at play. Keep in mind too that shilajit alone isn’t a sole remedy and should be a part of a balanced lifestyle for optimal results.

Shilajit can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks to manifest its effects, depending on an individual’s prakriti (constitution), current state of dosha imbalance, and the severity of the issues faced. Since you’ve been taking it daily for about three weeks, you might be on the brink of starting to truly notice its effects if it’s aligning with your body’s needs.

For some people, especially those with a vata imbalance, it may work relatively quickly to help restore energy and vitality. Others, particularly with an underlying kapha imbalance or systemic issues affecting sapta dhatus (tissue systems), might require a more extended period to see consistent results.

Ensure you’re taking shilajit correctly; the typical dosage is around 300-500 mg per day, but this can vary according to the brand or form. Consuming it with warm water or milk is traditionally recommended to enhance its absorption and assimilation. Warm milk, in particular, helps kindle agni, facilitating better integration of nutrients.

It’s also crucial to maintain regularity in your regimen and lifestyle, making sure to support the body’s natural rhythms. Practice getting adequate rest, nurturing a balanced diet that strengthens your digestive fire, and including light exercise to fend off sluggishness—such routines complement shilajit’s effectiveness.

Remember, if your low energy persists or worsens, consult your healthcare provider to rule out other underlying conditions. This dual approach, integrating both the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda and contemporary medical understanding, ensures a harmonized strategy for restoring your vitality.
