how to increase bilirubin - #38813

I am really worried about my recent health issues and I feel so lost. I went for a checkup last week and they told me my bilirubin levels are lower than normal. I honestly don't know how to increase bilirubin? My skin has also started to look a bit paler and I have felt really fatigued. The doctor said these low levels might be affecting my energy. I've tried to eat healthy — lots of greens and fruits, but now I'm wondering if that's even the right thing to do? Should I be changing my diet to some foods that naturally boost bilirubin or something? I read online that certain foods could help, but how do I know what works? Also, are there any lifestyle changes I should consider? After checking online, I found some conflicting info on how to increase bilirubin, some say to eat beets or drink dandelion tea, but is that really true? I feel kind of clueless here. Every time I look in the mirror I just see how dull I look, and it's stressing me out. I’m hoping someone can share their experiences or advice on how to increase bilirubin safely and effectively without causing other health issues. Any insights would be super appreciated!

Ayurvedically speaking, to address low bilirubin levels, it is first important to understand the root cause of these changes. Bilirubin levels can be influenced by several factors including liver function which plays a significant role in Ayurvedic health principles. Balancing your lifestyle and diet can indeed support this.

Consider focusing on foods that nourish the liver. Ayurveda often recommends bitters like amla (Indian gooseberry), which is one of the richest sources of vitamin C and promotes liver health. It’s good that you’re eating greens; continue, especially leafy ones like spinach, kale, or fenugreek, as they are supportive for liver function. Beets and dandelion tea, both touted for their liver-cleansing properties, can be consumed but moderation is key; begin with small quantities and observe how your body respond.

Include turmeric in your diet as it is beneficial for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Milk thistle extract can also be supportive, though you might want to consult with a healthcare provider knowledgeable in herbal supplements to determine appropriate dosages.

Ensure your diet includes healthy fats, such as ghee and avocados, as they are crucial for bile production. Incorporating proteins like lentils and chickpeas can also be supportive. Hydration is another key, aim for warm water regularly throughout the day as it aids digestion and helps in the elimination of toxins.

Avoid excess oily, fried, processed foods, and refined sugars as they can burden the liver. Incorporate a regular waking routine aligned with the sun to harmonize your body’s natural rhythms—adequate sleep also promotes healing.

Regular physical activity, suited to your capability, helps stimulate circulation and is very useful in improving overall energy levels. Gentle yoga and pranayama (breathing exercises) such as Kapalabhati can support digestion and promote liver health. However, if your fatigue or skin issues persist or worsen, it’s crucial to followup with your physician to rule out underlying conditions that might necessitate a different approach.

While an increase in bilirubin is not typically desired, your situation seems to indicate an underlying issue, possibly around anemia or liver dysfunction. In the Siddha-Ayurvedic tradition, we often focus on balancing the doshas and optimizing agni, particularly because a sluggish digestion may lead to problems like fatigue and changes in complexion.

Even though your diet is rich in greens and fruits, considering certain specific foods could be practical. For increasing bilirubin indirectly, focus on enhancing liver function and boosting digestion. Small amounts of ghee when cooking can support liver health, as ghee enhances agni and supports tissue nourishment (particularly dhatus related to anemia like rakta dhatu—blood tissue).

Whole grains and legumes like lentils, chickpeas, and kidney beans can be useful for their iron content—critical for ensuring adequate hemoglobin. While you mentioned eating greens, ensure they’re iron-rich ones like spinach, kale, and swiss chard.

Beets and carrot juice are believed to support liver health in Ayurveda, but moderation is key since balance is essential. Be aware of kidney functions, and consult your healthcare provider if concerns there apply. Dandelion tea has gentle detoxifying effects, supporting both liver and digestive energies (pitta-agni).

On the lifestyle front, practicing pranayama can improve oxygen flow, helping both energy and complexion. Vishuddhi kriya—gentle cleaning practices—are equally beneficial. Favor moving meditations like surya namaskar (sun salutations) in the morning to invigorate your system.

Remember, consultation with a healthcare provider is necessary if your health seems critical or deteriorating. Sudden changes or worsening symptoms need immediate medical assessment to prevent more significant issues. Ayurveda supports but should not replace necessary biomedical interventions where applicable.
