does castor oil reduce body heat - #39031

Ryan

I am really confused about something. A few weeks ago, I started feeling really hot all the time, like I’m burning up inside even when the AC is on. I heard from a friend that castor oil might help cool down the body or whatever, and I’ve been curious if castor oil reduce body heat, right? The other day, I was at a family gathering and everyone was bundled up in sweaters while I felt like I was about to melt. It was kinda embarrassing! I’ve tried drinking more water and some herbal teas, but still no luck. My cousin mentioned that she used castor oil for some reason when she had heat problems and felt much better after. But does castor oil actually reduce body heat? Like, is there any specific way to use it for this, or is just swallowing it not very effective? I applied some on my skin too, but I don't feel much difference. Should I be doing something different? I really want to get to the bottom of this before summer really hits. Anyone else have this problem and found relief with castor oil? Thanks for any advice or shared experiences!

Yes, castor oil can indeed be beneficial for reducing body heat due to its cooling and detoxifying properties, according to Ayurvedic principles. Now, this might require a slightly different approach than what you’ve tried so far. Castor oil is considered ‘ushna’ or hot in its potency, but it has the ability to balance ‘Pitta dosha’, which is responsible for heat-related concerns when it gets aggravated. By expelling excess heat and wastes, it restores balance in the body.

For using castor oil to reduce body heat, you might consider the following:

1. Internal Use: It’s recommended to use it internally as a mild, natural laxative. Consume 1-2 teaspoons of cold-pressed, food-grade castor oil at night before going to bed, for not more than three days straight. It helps to cleanse the intestines of built-up toxins (ama) and effectively reduces excessive Pitta. Also, don’t exceed the recommended intake as it can lead to diarrhea or digestive discomfort.

2. Topical Application: You tried applying it on your skin, but you should leave it overnight with a more systematic approach. Apply a thin layer of castor oil to your abdomen or feet before going to sleep. Wrap the area with a clean, warm cloth to enhance absorption and remove in the morning with lukewarm water.

3. Dietary Adjustments: While you’re using castor oil, balance it with a Pitta-pacifying diet. Incorporate cooling foods like cucumbers, melons, leafy greens and coconut water to help maintain your body temperature. Avoid spicy, sour, or salty foods that can increase Pitta levels.

4. Stay Hydrated: Continue with what you are already doing by increasing your water and herbal tea intake. Herbal teas like peppermint or chamomile can further aid cooling down the body.

If symptoms persist or you experience severe discomfort, it would be wise to consult a certified Ayurvedic practitioner to personalize your treatment. While castor oil seems to be a good fit for many, it’s essential to assess how your body uniquely responds to these remedies.

Castor oil is often talked about in Ayurvedic circles for its cooling and soothing properties. In the tradition of Siddha-Ayurveda, it is known to help with cooling the excess pitta dosha, which might be why you’re feeling so heated internally. While castor oil indeed possesses cooling qualities, using it internally for someone who feels “burning up” should be approached mindfully.

Instead of ingesting it, which some people might suggest, applying castor oil topically can be a more effective and subtle way to help reduce body heat. Ayurveda also recommends this oil for its ability to soothe and support the body’s natural detoxification process. You might try applying castor oil to the soles of your feet at night. This simple technique can help calm the system and balance the internal heat, especially when practiced regularly.

You could also consider using a warm towel to cover the foot after applying the oil, which enhances absorption and further aids body cooling. If you’re using it during the day, ensure you’re in a relaxed environment, as its properties might have a soothing effect that can make one feel drowsy. Beyond castor oil, incorporating more cooling foods into your diet like cucumbers, aloe vera juice, or coconut water may assist in achieving a more balanced state. Herbal teas like coriander or fennel can be quite beneficial too.

However, if your symptoms persist or worsen, it’s crucial to check with a health practitioner. Excessive internal heat could point to underlying health issues requiring immediate attention. Don’t rely on castor oil alone if the sense of heat becomes unbearable or you experience additional symptoms. Always prioritize getting medical advice in such scenarios to rule out any serious health concerns.
