Feeling occasional right-sided chest pain when deeply breathing may have various causes, and while it might not be serious, it’s important to approach this with care. In Ayurveda, chest pain can be linked to imbalances in doshas, particularly related to the Vata dosha, since Vata governs the movement and can lead to discomfort when it’s disturbed.

First, one thing you might want to consider is your digestion, as improper digestion can lead to ama (toxins), that could indirectly be causing tension in your body, including the chest area. To support this, make sure you have regular meals, consume warm and easily digestible foods, and incorporate spices like cumin, coriander, and fennel to aid digestion. Ginger tea might also be beneficial.

Pay attention to your posture and breathing. Poor posture can stress the rib muscles on one side. Practice deep breathing exercises without strain. Sit comfortably, place your hands on your abdomen and inhale slowly through your nose, allowing your belly to expand, then exhale gently through your mouth.

Practicing specific yoga asanas like cat-cow stretch, gentle twists and side bends can help open up the chest and alleviate discomfort if they’re practiced carefully and with attention.

In cases where the pain persists or intensifies, whether it’s on the right or left side, and especially if it accompanies other symptoms like shortness of breath, dizziness, or nausea, it’s crucial to consult a healthcare professional promptly to rule out any serious conditions. Ayurveda emphasizes balance, and it’s important that includes understanding when modern medical intervention may be necessary. Stay observant of your symptoms, and ensure you seek help for any concerning changes or if your anxiety around this doesn’t settle.
