where to stay in kerala - #40302

Alexander

I am planning a trip to Kerala and I've been doing my research on where to stay in Kerala, but I’m feeling kind of overwhelmed. I've heard so much about the beautiful backwaters and hill stations, but honestly, it’s tough to figure out the best spot. Last year, I went on a vacation and ended up in a not-so-great hotel - a total disaster!! I don’t want to make that mistake again. I’m looking for a place that's nice but not too expensive you know? I’ve narrowed it down to maybe Alleppey for the backwaters and Munnar for the hills, but I am unsure about the best areas there. Is it better to stay in a homestay, a resort, or something else? I read that some places offer ayurvedic treatments and I would love to try that but just dont know if I should prioritize that over scenery. Plus, being new to Kerala, I wanna make sure wherever I stay in Kerala is close to popular attractions but also has a good vibe. Any recommendations on specific accommodations or areas? Like, genuinely, where to stay in Kerala without breaking the bank but still soaking in the experience? Any tips would help loads!

When deciding between Alleppey and Munnar, each offers its unique charm. Alleppey is renowned for its tranquil backwaters and houseboats; consider a stay on a traditional houseboat or a homestay near the water. It’s a classic way to experience the peaceful vibe of Kerala’s waters, and if your budget allows, you might indulge in one night on a houseboat for an unforgettable experience, though they can be pricy. For a more economical stay, opt for riverside homestays which often offer great hospitality at reasonable prices.

In Munnar surrounded by lush tea plantations and cool, mist-covered hills, staying in a boutique tea estate could offer you immersive, picturesque views. Munnar has plenty of budget-friendly resorts or homestays closer to the town which keep you near amenities and shops. The Misty Greens is a good mid-budget choice offering comfortable stays with easy access to tea gardens and hills.

Both locations offer ayurvedic retreat options if wellness is a priority. Ayurveda treatments can rejuvenate and deeply refresh you, especially in Kerala’s traditional settings. Green Gram Wellness Village in Alleppey weaves Ayurveda with nature, providing a holistic experience while being surrounded by natural beauty. Meanwhile, in Munnar, The Wind Munnar is known for incorporating genuine Ayurveda treatments with stunning scenery.

Staying at a homestay adds a personal touch to your trip. Hosts often guide you to explore less-commercial settings and authentic local food. Always look for places with positive guest reviews on hospitality to avoid discomfort.

To make the most of Kerala without stretching your budget, balance between luxurious moments like a houseboat night or an authentic ayurvedic treatment, and cost-effective lodgings is key. Book in advance during peak seasons, and enjoy the serene combo of Kerala’s landscapes and its traditional wellness offerings. Whatever you choose, you’re sure to enjoy the rich experience that Kerala offers, just remember to tailor your itinerary around what you’d most like to experience!

As you’re exploring Kerala, making a decision between the serene backwaters of Alleppey and the lush hills of Munnar is challenging yet exciting. Both destinations have their own charm. If the backwaters entice you, Alleppey is a great choice. Staying in a houseboat is iconic but not always budget-friendly unless shared. Instead, consider staying in a homestay or a budget resort near the backwaters where you can relish the local culture and scenery.

If Munnar’s cool hills and tea plantations are calling, you’ll find various accommodations ranging from budget homestays to mid-range resorts. A homestay would offer a local vibe, engaging you in the community’s lifestyle. While, resorts often boast fantastic views and added amenities. Consider areas like Chithirapuram or Pallivasal in Munnar for easy access to attractions such as Eravikulam National Park and Tea Estates.

Regarding Ayurvedic treatments, Kerala indeed excels in this. You can find customized Ayurvedic packages in both these areas. Some resorts have in-house massage therapists, but it doesn’t always equate to quality. If you prioritize authentic treatments, consult local ayurvedic clinics attached to government-run hospitals in these regions. This ensures genuine practices compared to commercial setups fraudulent in nature.

In sum, strike a balance by choosing accommodations within your budget close to the attractions you desire most, and from there, you can decide if it’s feasible to partake in any Ayurvedic experiences. Such an approach ensures you’ll savor both the natural beauty and holistic experiences Kerala offers without compromising one for the other.
