Thank you for this site of services. I'm very grateful! I have a 1.3cm gallbladder polyp with a history or gallstones and kidney stones which I yielded a great result from the gallbladder miracle cleanse about 7 yrs ago. I am strongly against the western medical insistence of removal due to the consequences of dysbiosis. I take no medications, am over 60 but have been lean and healthy all my life until the last few years, which was stress related, so I understand the causes. I will be sourcing your sites services to try to best navigate natural treatment options to mitigate any worsening risk and improve healthy balance. Thank you!

Doctors' responses

Thank you for your thoughtful approach toward natural healing. In Ayurveda, your condition suggests a combination of Pitta aggravation, mild Kapha accumulation, and long-term disturbance of Agni (digestive fire) leading to improper bile metabolism and formation of growths such as polyps or stones. Stress over many years can strongly disturb the liver–gallbladder axis in Ayurveda, especially when digestion becomes irregular. Your lean body type and previous stone history also indicate deeper metabolic dryness with heat imbalance. Ayurvedic Understanding Gallbladder polyps are viewed as a form of: Meda/Kapha accumulation (abnormal tissue growth) Associated with Pitta imbalance in the liver and bile system Along with Ama (metabolic toxins/incomplete digestion) The aim of treatment is not aggressive “cleansing,” but: Improving bile flow naturally Reducing inflammation and stagnation Supporting liver detoxification Correcting digestion and stress response Preventing further enlargement or stone formation Diet Guidance (Most Important) Favor These Foods Warm, freshly cooked meals Steamed vegetables Bottle gourd, ridge gourd, zucchini, pumpkin, beetroot Green leafy vegetables in moderation Old rice, barley, quinoa, light khichadi Moong dal soup Small amount of cow ghee Pomegranate, pears, cooked apples Coriander, fennel, cumin, turmeric Avoid Strictly Fried and oily food Heavy cheese and processed dairy Red meat and processed meat Excess eggs Refined sugar and bakery foods Alcohol Very spicy food, vinegar, fermented excess foods Late-night eating Repeated fasting or harsh cleanses Very intense “gallbladder flushes” are generally not advised repeatedly in Ayurveda at your age because they may aggravate Vata and trigger biliary irritation. Helpful Ayurvedic Herbs Liver & Gallbladder Support Bhumi Amla – supports liver and bile channels Kutki – classical Pitta-liver balancing herb Kalmegh – supports detoxification Turmeric – anti-inflammatory and improves bile quality Guduchi – improves immunity and metabolism For Digestion & Ama Triphala at night in mild dose Warm cumin-coriander-fennel water through the day For Stress Component Stress is a major factor in your case. Helpful supports: Brahmi Jatamansi Ashwagandha (if digestion tolerates and no excess heat) Daily Routine Wake early and sleep before 10:30 pm Eat meals at fixed times Do not suppress natural urges Gentle walking after meals Avoid excessive sitting after eating Yoga & Breathing Very beneficial: Anulom Vilom Bhramari pranayama Gentle twisting yoga postures Meditation 15–20 min daily These help regulate the gut–liver–nervous system connection which Ayurveda considers extremely important.

Hi Dr. Aggeral, Thank you for your thoughtful recommendations and education. I would like to provide more accurate detail for the initial questionnaire on symptoms, history, etc. May I do so through your consultation fee? I very much appreciate access to Ayurveda doctors at such reduced rates. I dont want to close the Question yet, because I am in need of as much education as I can, to address this serious health condition, with limited funding. Let me know, if thats acceptable.
Kathie Oremus

Dear Kathie, You are most welcome to continue the discussion and share additional details through the consultation. In chronic gallbladder and digestive conditions, understanding the full history is very important in Ayurveda because treatment is individualized according to digestion, body constitution, stress patterns, and metabolic strength. Please do not feel rushed to close the question. I will do my best to provide supportive guidance, dietary education, and safe Ayurvedic direction within your comfort and resources. Kindly share any reports, scan findings, symptoms after meals, bowel pattern, weight changes, sleep, stress history, and foods that aggravate or relieve your symptoms. This will help assess the condition more deeply and guide the next steps appropriately. Take care and stay hopeful — gradual and consistent correction often gives the best long-term results in Ayurveda.

A 1.3 cm gallbladder polyp with age >60 and history of stones needs careful monitoring. Ayurveda can support liver–biliary health and help stabilize progression, but regular ultrasound is essential. Pitta–Kapha imbalance with Medo dhatu dushti affecting yakrit–pittashaya Take Arogyavardhini Vati 250–500 mg twice daily after food Punarnavadi Kashayam 15 ml + 45 ml warm water, twice daily before food Varunadi Kashayam 15 ml + 45 ml water, twice daily before food Triphala Guggulu 1–2 tablets twice daily after food Kalmegh Churna 500 mg twice daily Avipattikar Churna (if acidity/pitta high) 3–5 g at bedtime Weekly cleansing Castor oil 5–10 ml with warm milk once weekly (if tolerated) Diet Light, low-fat diet Avoid fried, oily, heavy foods Include bitter vegetables, turmeric, warm water Monitoring Ultrasound every 3–6 months This regimen supports bile regulation, reduces inflammation, and helps control growth tendency. Complete disappearance is uncertain, but progression can be managed with discipline. Dr RC BAMS MS

Understanding your problem Gall bladder stone are formed due to crystallization of bile salts and pigment. , if it does not bother then with liver function enhancing medicine you can continue. If pain is there ,best option is surgery, as these Gall bladder stone when moves out can cause Pancreatitis, or jaundice as it will obstruct the passage. Many times small stones get dissolved. Start with Heposem tablet 1-0-1 after food with water, liver tonic will balance digestion and liver health. Alsactil tablet 1-0-1 after food with water will maintain balanced pH in the stomach , prevent further complications. For polyp to not increase the size you can take Kanchanar guggul 1-0-1 after food with water. Need to follow certain suggestions: Donot remain hungry for long, as long hrs. Of fasting triggers GAll bladder stone. Avoid spicy high sugary diet, carbonated drinks. Do pranayam lom -vilom bhastrika bhamri 5-10mins twice daily. For stress management Start with Brahmi capsules 0-0-1 at bedtime with warm water. Triphala tablet 0-0-2 after dinner will help cleanse your system. Drink adequate amount of water, as less water forms crystallization of bile salts and pigment in Gall bladder.

Hello dear, It is completely understandable that you wish to avoid surgery, especially given your history of successfully managing gallbladder health naturally in the past. At over 60, maintaining systemic balance and avoiding the digestive “dysbiosis” that can follow a cholecystectomy is a common and valid concern. However, a 1.3 cm (13 mm) gallbladder polyp is clinically significant. While many polyps are benign “cholesterol polyps” (small deposits of fat), medical guidelines generally recommend surgical removal for any polyp over 10 mm because the risk of malignancy increases significantly at this size (Foley et al., 2021). For someone over 60, this risk is prioritized even more highly in clinical settings (Foley et al., 2021). In Ayurveda, gallbladder polyps are often categorized under Granthi (tumors/protuberances) or Pittashmari (related to gallstones). They are viewed as an imbalance of Kapha and Medas (fat tissue) accumulating in the Pitta-sthana (the seat of bile). Stress, which you noted, can lead to Vata aggravation, which “dries out” bile and causes stagnation, further complicating these growths. The goal of treatment is Lekhana (scraping) to reduce the size of the growth and Pitta-Rechana (bile cleansing) to improve flow and prevent further deposits. Ayurveda Medicines : 1. Varanadi Kashayam Action: This is the primary “Lekhana” (scraping) formula. It is specifically used to address internal growths, obesity, and fatty deposits. Dose: 15 ml mixed with 45 ml of lukewarm water, twice daily on an empty stomach (approx. 30 minutes before breakfast and dinner). 2. Kanchanara Guggulu Action: A classic Ayurvedic formulation for Granthi (cysts/tumors/polyps). It helps in clearing the lymphatic system and reducing Kapha-related growths. Dose: 2 tablets (typically 500 mg each) twice daily, taken after food with warm water. 3. Avipathi Choornam Action: To manage the Pitta imbalance and ensure smooth bowel movements (Mridu Virechana), which helps “flush” the system. Dose: 1 teaspoon (approx. 5g) at bedtime with warm water, twice a week (adjust based on bowel response). Because your polyp is 1.3 cm, “natural treatment” must be paired with strict objective monitoring. Unlike gallstones, which can be “flushed,” a true polyp is a growth attached to the gallbladder wall. Imaging: You should ideally have a follow-up ultrasound in 3 to 6 months to ensure the size is not increasing. If you experience jaundice (yellowing of eyes/skin), persistent pain in the upper right abdomen, or unexplained weight loss, the risk of malignancy must be re-evaluated immediately. Incorporate bitter gourds, turmeric, and ginger to stimulate bile flow. While you likely eat healthy, ensure you are using small amounts of “medicated” fats like Siddha Ghee (ghee infused with bitter herbs) rather than heavy, fried, or processed fats. Since you identified stress as the trigger, Pranayama (specifically Nadi Shodhana) is vital to keep Vata from stagnating your bile.

I understand your preference to avoid surgery, but I’ll give you a clear and practical answer. A 1.3 cm (13 mm) gallbladder polyp is considered clinically significant. Above 10 mm, there is a higher risk of malignancy, so most doctors advise removal as a precaution. From an Ayurvedic perspective: Complete removal of a polyp of this size through medicine alone is not reliably achievable. Treatment can help in: * Improving bile flow * Reducing inflammation * Supporting digestion and metabolism * Possibly slowing progression But it cannot guarantee shrinkage or eliminate cancer risk. So the approach should be supportive + close monitoring, not blind avoidance. Diet and lifestyle: Keep diet light and low-fat Avoid fried, heavy, processed foods Do not do extreme cleanses or flushes (can aggravate) Regular meals, good hydration Stress control is very important in your case At home: Warm water through the day Jeera + coriander boiled water once daily Avoid long fasting and heavy late dinners * Arogyavardhini vati – 1 tablet twice daily after food * Varunadi kwath – 15 ml with equal water twice daily * Punarnava mandoor – 1 tablet twice daily after food Monitoring is very important: Repeat ultrasound every 3–4 months When to strongly consider surgery: * Polyp increases in size * Reaches >15 mm * Persistent pain or new symptoms * Any suspicious changes on scan Important point: Natural treatment can support your system, but it should not delay intervention if risk increases. This balanced approach keeps you safe while respecting your preference. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)

Hello, A 1.3 cm gallbladder ploylp is not a small or low risk finding. In modern medicine (and even when viewed through an Ayurvedic view) aything > 1 cm carries a significantly higher risk of malignant change. So while your concern about surgery and gut health is valid, this is not a condition to manage casually or rely only on cleanses That said- Ayurveda can play a strong role is -slowing progression -correcting the root imbalance (pitta + kapha + ama) -improving bile flow and digestion -supporting long term metabolic balance But it should be done with monitoring, not in isolation Ayurvedic view A gallbladder polyp is essentially a growth inside the gallbladder lining In your case -History of stones-> kapha accumulation + bile stagnation -stress-> vata aggravation of disturbing digestion -digestive issues-> ama (matabolic toxins) formation so this becomes -Ama + kapha + pitta imbalance in liver and gallbladder -Leads to granthi like growth (polyp) Your occassional pain= vata involvement + obstruction Treatment goals (very important) -stop further growth of polyp -improve bile flow without aggressive flushes -reduce ama (root cause) -stabilize liver gallbladder function -manage stress (critical in your case) Internal medications 1) Liver + gallbladder correction -Avipattikar churna= 1 tsp with warm water at bedtime =reduces pitta + improves bile regulation, helps prevent further irritation of gallbladder lining -Gandharvahastadi kashaya= 15ml + 15ml warm water twice daily before meals =clears ama + regulates vata in abdomen, important due to your digestive issues 2) Anti-growth + detox support -Kanchanar guggulu= 2 tabs twice daily after meals =classical for granthi (growths, cysts, polyps), helps reduce abnormal tissue proliferation 3) Liver rejuvenation -Bhringarajasavam= 20ml with equal water after meals = supports liver metabolism and bile quality 4) If constipation/sluggish digestion present -Triphala churna= 1 tsp with warm water at night =keeps gut clean-> prevents ama accumulation External therapies very helpful 1) Abdominal oil application daily= Dhanwantaram taila -gentle clockwise massage around abdomen, improves vata + organ function 2) Mild fomentation (warm compress) -over right upper abdomen, helps bile flow and reduces discomfort Diet- this is critical in your case -warm, freshly cooked food -light grains, rice, millet -bitter vegetables= methi, kerala (important) -turmeric + cumin +coriander -small amount of ghee supports bile flow Avoid -fried/oily foods major trigger -cheese, heavy dairy -red meat -refined sugar -cold foods and drinks Important -light but nourishing- not fasting, not heavy eating Lifestyle + mind (your key root cause) You clearly mentioned stress as a turning point- this is not secondary, it’s central Daily practices -Anulom vilom= 10 mins -Bhramari= 5 mins =reduces vata + stabilizes liver function Yoga -Ardha matsyendrasana = improves bile flow -bhujangasana -pawanmuktasana Walking -20-30 mins daily Simple Home remedies -warm water + lemon (small amount) in morning -1 tsp aloe vera juice before food -turmeric + black pepper in diet Avoid exterme flushes - they can aggravate vata and worsen instability Investigation -ultrasound every 6 months -liver function test Your body has handled a lot over the years- you’re starting from a strong baseline. The goal now is not aggressive cleansing, but steady correction and balance If you stay consistent with -digestion correction -stress management -liver support You can significantly improve your internal environment and reduce progression risk Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you

It is understandable that you want to avoid surgery, especially given your positive experience with natural cleanses in the past and your concerns about long-term digestive health. However, because a 1.3 cm gallbladder polyp is clinically significant, balancing your holistic preferences with medical safety is essential. Rx 1.Kanchnar guggulu 2 tab twice daily with water after meals 2.Arogyavardhini vati 2 tab twice daily with water after meals 3.Varunadi kwath 15 ml with 15 ml water twice daily after meals 4.Punarnavadi kwath 15 ml with 15 ml water twice daily after meals Addressing the Stress Trigger -Pranayama: Daily practice of Anulom Vilom and Bhramari can help stabilize the nervous system. -Herbs: Consider Brahmi at bedtime to support stress management and sleep. Diet & Lifestyle -Bitter Foods: Incorporate bitter gourd, turmeric, and ginger to stimulate natural bile flow. -Warmth: Eat warm, freshly cooked meals. Avoid cold, processed, and excessively oily foods. -Hydration: Sip warm water throughout the day to prevent the crystallization of bile salts.
