It is understandable to be concerned when your son is reluctant to continue Basti therapy. From an Ayurvedic perspective, Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (Aamavata/Sandhigata Vata with autoimmune involvement) is a chronic condition that requires individualized management. Basti is considered one of the most important therapies for controlling aggravated Vata and reducing joint inflammation, but it should not be forced on a child if he is experiencing significant discomfort, nausea, or emotional resistance. A few important points: Yes, the treatment can be paused or reassessed after discussing it with the treating Ayurvedic physician. There is no guarantee that a 45-day Basti course will permanently cure arthritis forever, especially in long-standing autoimmune conditions. Basti may help reduce pain, stiffness, swelling, and improve long-term disease control, but results vary from person to person. If your son is developing nausea or is strongly unwilling, the doctor may consider modifying the Basti type, dosage, schedule, or using alternative internal medicines and supportive therapies. Since he still has persistent finger and wrist involvement, regular monitoring is important to prevent long-term joint damage. My suggestion would be to speak openly with the treating doctor about his reluctance and side effects before discontinuing completely. The treatment plan should be comfortable and sustainable for the child. Along with therapy, continue an Ama-reducing diet, warm freshly prepared foods, adequate sleep, and gentle joint exercises as advised by the physician. With proper Ayurvedic management, many children achieve good symptom control and maintain an active lifestyle, but ongoing follow-up is usually required.
The doctor has given vaitaran for 3 days and anuvasna for 3 days. When I asked to stop the doctor is telling that it cannot be stopped midway as it can cause serious harm to his body and he will be suffering even more. There is a course of 15 days and only after that it can be stopped and there is no other way. And still if we decide to stop the doctor will not be responsible and i had to give in writing that she/he has not done any treatment. And i will be blaming myself for life for this
Thank you for sharing the update after discussing with the treating physician. In Ayurveda, Vaitarana Basti and Anuvasana Basti are often administered as part of a planned Panchakarma protocol. Once a Basti course is initiated, the physician may recommend completing the prescribed schedule to achieve the intended therapeutic benefits and to maintain treatment continuity. However, the decision to continue or discontinue treatment should always be made after carefully understanding the expected benefits, possible consequences, and the patient’s comfort level. If you have concerns, it is advisable to discuss them openly with the treating doctor and seek complete clarification regarding the necessity of the remaining course. An informed decision based on a clear understanding of the treatment plan is always in the best interest of the patient.
Yes basti can be given after a pause, if not comfortable, since juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is Auto immune , some ayurvedic treatment in oral form should be continued till the child feels better, then doses can be altered, as such vaitaran basti is quite strong, gap will not harm, please consult your treating doctor to help you continue treatment benefits achieved is not compromised.

Since the is already under a doctor’s treatment, and is feeling better, it’s best the same doctor evaluates and decide what is best. Can explain the doctor about the child’s discomfort and let your doctor who examines physically take decision

Better, take some pause…
I completely understand your concern as a mother. Seeing an 11-year-old go through chronic joint pain and struggle with rigorous procedures like basti can be incredibly stressful for the entire family. 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇 1. Can the Basti treatment be stopped if he is reluctant? Yes, it can be paused or modified. In Ayurveda, (the patient’s mental and physical comfort) is crucial for a treatment to be successful. If an 11-year-old child is highly reluctant, anxious, or crying during the procedure, it can vitiate Vata Dosha further, which contradicts the purpose of the treatment. 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇 Regarding the Nausea/Vomiting: 👉👉👉 You mentioned he experienced nausea or vomiting. Vaitarana Basti contains ingredients like Saindhava (rock salt), Guda (jaggery), Imli/Chinch (tamarind), Gomutra (cow’s urine), and Eranda Taila (castor oil). It is highly potent and deep-cleansing (Teekshna). In a child, it can sometimes stimulate the gastrointestinal tract intensely, causing mild nausea. 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇 I advise you to speak with his treating doctor in Pune immediately. They can modify the dosage, switch to a milder Kala or Karma Bastischedule, alternating with soothing Anuvasana (oil-based) basti, or temporarily rely on gentle oral medications until he feels comfortable. 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇 2. Does this 45-day treatment have the power to treat Arthritis forever? In Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (which correlates closely with Amavata or Sandhigata Vata in Ayurveda), aiming for a “permanent cure” can be misleading. 👇👇👇👇👇👇 Because this is an autoimmune condition that started at a very young age, the goal of Ayurveda is to achieve deep, long-term remission, prevent further joint damage, and significantly improve his quality of life. 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇 Please don’t stree
1.Can the Basti Treatment Be Stopped Midway? Yes, you can absolutely pause or stop the treatment. 2. Can a 45-Day Treatment Cure Arthritis Forever? To give you an honest and transparent medical reality: No, a single 45-day course cannot guarantee a permanent, lifelong cure for Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Alternative, Painless Options for His Hands and Wrists The small joints of the hands and wrists are often the hardest to clear because blood circulation and joint spaces there are very small, allowing toxins to lodge deeply. Instead of a distressing internal enema, these specific joints can be treated very effectively using targeted, painless external therapies: -Upanaha: Medicated poultices wrapped around his wrists and fingers overnight to draw out deep-seated inflammation. -Valuka Sweda: Gentle, warm sand-bag or herbal pouch fomentation to instantly relieve morning stiffness and pain. -Local Lepas: Applying soothing, herbal pastes directly to the affected joints.
