how to reduce body temperature - #36289

Anna

I am really struggling right now and could use your advice on how to reduce body temperature. Lately, I've been dealing with some intense heat on my body. Like, I notice it mostly during the afternoons, and I feel super hot even when others are comfortable. Yesterday, I took my temperature and it was a bit higher than usual, around 100°F. I thought it might just be the weather or that I’ve been a bit stressed from work. I’ve been feeling fatigued and a little dizzy too. My friends suggested drinking a lot of water, but that only helps a little. I did look into some natural remedies because I prefer those. I even tried some cool baths and peppermint tea—but did not seem to work very well! Also, I’ve been wearing just light cotton clothes, which I thought would help with heat, but nope, still hot. Could anyone share some effective ways on how to reduce body temperature naturally? I heard something about the influence of food and spices, maybe? I just want to feel better and not sweaty all the time, especially since it’s affecting my daily life. Any tips or experiences would be super helpful!

Feeling excessively hot can certainly be uncomfortable. Let’s look at some ayurvedic approaches to help bring down your body temperature naturally, considering what you’ve shared. In Ayurveda, this could be linked to an imbalance in Pitta dosha, which governs heat and metabolism. Stress and diet can affect this, and working in the afternoons might intensify the feeling.

First, consider implementing a Pitta-pacifying diet. Focus on foods that are cooling and calming. Incorporate more of sweet, bitter, and astringent tastes, eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, melons, sweet grapes and leafy greens. Coconut water is particularly effective—drink it regularly as it naturally cools and hydrates the body. Avoid spicy foods and anything sour, salty, or pungent as they can increase Pitta.

Hydration is important, but you’re right—sometimes just plain water isn’t enough. Try sipping herbal teas like coriander, fennel, or mint, which are known to cool the body. Add a pinch of rose petals or cardamom for enhanced effect.

Also, include practices that help release excess heat. Practicing sheetali pranayama, a breathing technique, can cool you down. Stick your tongue out, curl its sides, and inhale deeply through the mouth. Close your mouth, exhale through the nose. Repeat 5 to 10 times in the late afternoon when you feel the heat the most.

Topically, you can apply a sandalwood paste (mixed with rose water) to your forehead or use aloe vera gel to cool the skin. These should help soothe and reduce heat sensation. For bath time, add a few drops of peppermint or lavender oil into cool water, rather than hot.

Adapting your environment is also crucial. Ensure your living space is well-ventilated. Light cotton clothes are great, but consider their colors too—white or light shades can be more cooling.

If symptoms persist or worsen, it’s wise to consult a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying health condition.

To reduce your body temperature naturally, especially given your symptoms and preference for Ayurvedic solutions, let’s focus on balancing your Pitta dosha, which is likely elevated here. High Pitta, associated with heat, can make you feel hotter than usual and contribute to symptoms like fatigue and dizziness. Here are some effective methods:

Begin with your diet, which plays a crucial role in regulating body heat. Opt for cooling foods like cucumbers, watermelon, and leafy greens. Stay away from spicy, salty, or fried foods, as these can exacerbate heat. Ensure you eat at regular intervals to maintain even energy and avoid stress.

Incorporate coconut water into your daily routine; it’s naturally cooling and hydrates efficiently. Amla juice is another excellent choice, known for reducing Pitta. Prepare a drink by mixing a tablespoon of Amla juice in a glass of water and have this in the morning on an empty stomach.

Curate your lifestyle to have a cooling environment while sleeping and avoid overexposure to sun — especially during midday. You might also benefit from a short abdominal massage using coconut or castor oil. These oils are known in Siddha-Ayurveda for their cooling properties.

Include a few minutes of cooling pranayama exercises like Sheetali or Sitkari each day. These breathing practices help lower internal heat and calm the mind. Perform them in a quiet space in the morning or when you’re feeling particularly warm.

Stay physically active, but choose cooler times of day, such as early morning or late evening. Light yoga is preferable over intense exercises.

For herbal supplementation, you may consider Triphala. Ideally, have it in powder form with lukewarm water at night to assist with internal cleansing, which indirectly helps reduce heat in the body.

If these approaches don’t relieve your discomfort, it’s important to consult a healthcare professional to ensure no underlying condition is at play. Testing may be needed to rule out any infection or other causes of persistent high body temperature.
