Perimenopausal changes like dry skin, weight gain, and morning puffiness often link to hormonal shifts and require a holistic approach to balance your doshas, particularly Vata and Kapha. Firstly, let’s address the dry skin. Hydration is key, focus on internal and external moisture. Drink warm water through the day to support digestion and apply sesame oil to the skin for a nourishing effect. Amla (Indian goosebery) can help both hydrate the skin and improve overall complexion.

Your diet should emphasize warming, nourishing foods to balance Vata. Opt for cooked, easily digestible meals like soups and stews made with warming spices—ginger, cumin, and turmeric. Avoid raw vegetables or cold foods as they may aggravate Vata. Incorporating healthy fats, like ghee or coconut oil, helps in sustaining moisture levels.

For managing weight gain and belly fat, it’s useful to incorporate exercise into your daily routine that is moderate in intensity. Yoga or brisk walking for 30 minutes can be effective. Include spices like black pepper, chili, cinnamon, which improve metabolism and help in breaking down fat.

Triphala can be beneficial here as it aids in digestion and cleansing. Take about half a teaspoon of Triphala churna with warm water before bed. In terms of puffy face, ensure that you are retaining equilibrium between salt intake and hydration. High salt can lead to water retention. Practice Nasya (nasal oil therapy) with Anu Thailam to help balance fluids in the head and face.

Ashwagandha can balance the doshas during this transitional phase, boosting energy levels and reducing stress. You can take it in powder form in warm milk before bed.

If symptoms persist or worsen, you should consult with a healthcare professional to rule out any other underlying conditions.
