Abhayarishtam is a wonderful medicine for haemorrhoids and constipation issues It has vatanulomana action so it helps in normal evacuation of stools but the thing is it is a fermented medicine so it should be diluted with water and after it should be consumed
Hello Aaron Abhayarist is a fermented where main ingredient is Harde along with other ingredients medicine . It’s good to use under ayurvedic doctor’s advice for time recommended Later better to switch to Harde or Shiva tablet 0-0-2 at bedtime with warm water , if need to use on daily basis.
Hello Aaron, Your observation is quite valid - Abhayarishta is one of the most commonly used Ayurvedic formulations for chronic constipation, sluggish digestion, and hemorrhoids. It primarily contains Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) as the key ingredient, which gently stimulates the intestines and supports natural bowel movement.
✅Safety and Daily Use
Yes, Abhayarishta is generally safe for daily use when taken in the right dose (usually 15–25 ml once or twice daily with equal water after meals).
It is not habit-forming like synthetic laxatives and does not harm natural peristalsis. Instead, it helps restore normal bowel tone by: Improving Agni (digestive fire) Reducing Aama (toxic buildup) Supporting the colon’s natural motility
✅ Why It Worked Quickly
Yes — it’s quite normal for Abhayarishta to act within a few hours or the same day, especially if your system is responsive. The formulation contains herbs like:
Haritaki – mild laxative and detoxifier Trivrit & Vidanga – remove intestinal toxins Danti, Gokshura, and Draksha – balance water retention and support gut lubrication
This synergistic blend often restores bowel movement rhythm faster than single-ingredient remedies.
✅ Usage Tips
Take 15–20 ml after dinner with equal water. Stay well-hydrated through the day. Avoid excess tea, coffee, dry, or fried foods that cause intestinal dryness.
Combine with Triphala Churna (½ tsp at bedtime) if constipation alternates with incomplete evacuation.
✅ Lifestyle Support
Eat on time and include fiber-rich warm meals (oats, khichdi, vegetables, ghee).
Practice Abdominal breathing and gentle yoga poses like Pawanmuktasana and Malasana to enhance peristalsis.
Sleep by 10 PM to support natural gut rhythm.
Abhayarishta is safe for daily use and helps normalize, not suppress, peristaltic function. Your quick response shows that your digestion is reactivating well. You may continue it for a few weeks, then gradually taper as your bowel movements stabilize.
Wishing you a good health😊
Warm Regards Dr Snehal Vidhate
Thank you my fear was it would cause my colon to become dependent on it to have a bowel movement. Kind regards Aaron
No it wont cause any dependency 😊
Hi Aaron meyler ji,
Long-term, daily use of Abhayarishta is not generally recommended without medical supervision due to the risk of side effects and dependency. While often used for chronic constipation, it contains a natural laxative that can lead to dependency and other issues over time. You can it for 15-30 days.
Its totally safe. Take 3-4 tsp twice daily with equal quantity of water after meals.
Follow the do’s and don’ts of diet for best results.
Abhayarishta is an Ayurvedic formulation commonly used to relieve constipation, primarily made from ingredients like Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), which is known for its digestive benefits. It’s generally safe for regular use, but the appropriateness for daily consumption largely depends on individual health conditions and dosha balance. If you have a vata constitution or its imbalance, for instance, prolonged use could potentially exacerbate vata dosha due to its purgative nature.
Regarding peristalsis, Abhayarishta is designed to support natural bowel movements by enhancing digestive fire (agni) and not disrupting natural rhythms. However, if the product is causing you to have bowel movements more frequently or differently than usual, it could indicate that your body is particularly responsive to the formulation or that the dose may be too strong for you.
It’s not unusual for Abhayarishta to have a quick effect, like causing a bowel movement within a day. Factors such as the state of your digestive health, hydration levels, and existing bowel routine could contribute to its prompt action. Your pre-existing regimen of using magnesium oxide in the evenings for this purpose combined with Abhayarishta might be significantly stimulating your system.
If considering using Abhayarishta daily, it’s essential to monitor your symptoms and consult an Ayurvedic practitioner to evaluate its long-term suitability given your specific prakriti and health context. Always ensure it’s balanced with a proper diet to support digestive health. Include warm, cooked foods, and spices like ginger and cumin can aid digestion further. If you find irritation or any undesirable effects, adjusting the dose or frequency, or discontinuing might be necessary. For any persisting or severe symptoms, seek professional guidance promptly to rule out underlying conditions.
