how to decrease body temperature - #37614

Evelyn

I am trying to figure out how to decrease body temperature because I've been experiencing these weird heat waves lately. Like, just a few days ago, I was sitting at my desk working, and suddenly I felt this rush of heat flooding my face and neck. It's not just once, it’s happening pretty often now! I thought it could be something serious, so I went to the doc, and all the tests came back normal. They said it might just be stress, but I really have no clue how to handle it. I've tried cool showers and drinking ice water, but nothing seems to work for long. Friends suggest wearing loose clothes or even eating lighter meals, but I'm curious if there are Ayurvedic remedies or specific herbs that could help with how to decrease body temperature on a more permanent basis. Like, does triphala or something help? Or should I be looking at my diet? Is there something in Ayurveda that can really bring my body temp down? Does anyone have experience with this? I really wanna avoid feeling so hot and bothered all the time, especially with summer approaching. Any advice on how to decrease body temperature effectively would be super helpful!

Experiencing those sudden heat waves can be quite discomforting, especially when your regular medical tests come out on the normal side. In Ayurveda, such sensations of heat may indicate a Pitta imbalance, which is often associated with heat and inflammation in the body. To address this condition, Ayurveda recommends both dietary and lifestyle adjustments, along with the use of specific herbs that can help pacify excessive Pitta.

Firstly, focus on your diet which plays a significant role in managing body heat. Favor foods that have a cooling effect – include more of cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens. These foods help in calming Pitta. Try to reduce intake of spicy, fried, or fermented foods and opt for more bland, nourishing options. Dairy products like milk and ghee can also be beneficial, but make sure they come from healthy sources and don’t use them if you have lactose intolerance.

A daily practice of drinking about half a cup of cold coconut water can also be effective due to its natural cooling properties. For herbal remedies, Amla (Indian gooseberry) is known for its Pitta-pacifying effects. You can consider taking Amla juice or its powder. Likewise, the herb manjistha is helpful in regulating heat by cooling and detoxifying the blood — it’s available in powder or capsule form.

While triphala is generally good for balancing all three doshas, its main usage is more about aiding digestion and detoxification rather than directly addressing heat, so it might not be your primary solution here.

Lifestyle adjustments also play an essential role: practicing calming activities such as yoga or meditation can help manage stress and thus reduce heat waves. Breathing exercises like Sheetali Pranayama, known for its cooling effects, can be beneficial. Wear light, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen to let your skin breathe. Taking lukewarm, rather than cold, showers might sometimes be more effective as sudden cold can make your body try to produce more heat.

Remember, these Ayurvedic remedies are meant to support and complement your overall health management and it’s important to maintain regular health check-ups. If the symptoms persist or worsen, consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner alongside your regular healthcare provider might offer more personalized insights.
