Hello I completely understand how distressing it can be to experience frequent migraines, especially when they intensify during your menstrual cycle. But dont worry we are here to help you out😊

✅AYURVEDIC PLAN OF TREATMENT

✅INTERNAL MEDICATION

1 Pathyadi kadha 20 ml twice daily with equal water before food ( Relieves migraine, clears head channels)

2 Sootashekhar Rasa 1 tab twice daily after food (Balances Pitta, relieves headache & acidity)

3 Pathyakashadhtryadi ks tab 2-0-2 twice daily after food ( Relives headache)

4 Kumaryasava 15 ml with equal water after lunch & dinner (especially before menstruation) (Regulates menstruation & reduces period-related headaches)

✅EXTERNAL TREATMENT

1 Balahatadi taila - Warm Oil apply on head half hour before bath ( Relieves headache)

✅DIET MODIFICATION

✅Include

Warm, fresh meals — moong dal khichdi, rice gruel, ghee, pomegranate, coriander water Herbal teas — Tulsi, Brahmi, Shatavari, or Triphala at night Drink lukewarm water infused with fennel, jeera, or coriander seeds Add ghee daily for brain nourishment and to pacify Vata

❌Avoid:

Skipping meals or fasting for long periods Spicy, sour, fermented, and oily foods (increase Pitta) Coffee, alcohol, and excessive screen exposure Late nights or irregular sleep — these aggravate Vata and trigger attacks

✅LIFESTYLE AND MIND - BODY CARE

Maintain regular sleep schedule — 10 PM to 6 AM is ideal.

Gentle Abhyanga (self-oil massage) with Ksheerabala Taila daily before bath.

Yoga & Pranayama: Anulom Vilom (alternate nostril breathing) – 10 min/day Bhramari Pranayama – very effective in calming headaches

Avoid excessive sun, noise, or emotional stress.

Apply Chandan (sandalwood paste) during attack for cooling effect.

✅DURING MIGRAINE ATTACK (Quick Relief Measures)

Apply a paste of rose water + sandalwood or cow ghee on the temples. Take 10–15 drops of ghee in warm milk — pacifies Pitta. Steam inhalation with mint leaves or tulsi decoction can relieve heaviness. Lie down in a quiet, dark room, and avoid gadgets or strong smells.

By balancing digestion, calming the mind, and maintaining a consistent lifestyle, you will definitely see the results

Wishing you a good health😊

Warm Regards Dr. Snehal Vidhate

HELLO,

You are experiencing migraine headaches that become worse during your menstrual period In Ayurveda, this condition is described as 'Ardhavabedaka", which literally means “pain that splits one half of the head”

Let’s break down what’s going on -normally, vata dosha controls all movement in body-including nerve impulses and circulation -Pitta dosha controls heat, hormones and metabolism -blood works closely with pitta -during menstruation there are natural hormonal and blood flow changes in your body- apana vata (which governs menstrual flow) becomes active -If your vata and pitta are already sensitive, this period activity disturbs the balance between apana vata (;lower body) and prana vata(head and mind region) -This imbalance causes headache, one sided throbbing pain, nausea, sensitivity to light/sound and irritability

Thus, migraine during periods is mainly due to aggravate of vata and pitta, with support from rakta and hormonal imbalance

TREATMENT GOALS -balance vata and pitta -remove accumulated toxins -regulate menstrual cycle -improve blood and nerve circulation to the head -provide mental calmness and deep relaxation -prevent recurrence

INTERNAL MEDICATIONS

1) PATHYADI KASHAYA= 20 ml twice daily after meals for 3 months =classic migraine remedy, cools pitta soothes nerves

2) SUTSEKHAR RAS + KAMDUDHA RAS= 1 tab each twice daily with milk after meals for 2 months =calms stomach fire and heat related headache

3)BRAHMI VATI = 1 tab twice daily after meals for 2 moths =improves memory, calmness, reduces tension

4) KUMARYASAVA= 20 ml + equal water twice daily after meals for 3-4 cycles =normalizes hormonal cycle ad reduces premenstrual aggravation

5) GODANTI BHASMA + MUKTA PISHTI= 125 mg with ghee or hoey twice daily for 1 month =cools the system, reduces headache intensity

6) ASHWAGANDHA CHURNA= 1 tsp with warm milk at night =strengthens nerves, reduces recurrence

EXTERNAL TREATMENTS

1) HEAD MASSAGE = WITH BRAHMI OIL =relaxes nerves, reduces tension headache, balances vata

2) NASYA= 2 drop of ANU TAILA in each nostril In morning empty stomach =clears head channels, relieves sinus pressure, improves sleep

3) NETRA SEKA(eye wash) with cooled triphala decoction or rose water daily =releieves eye heat

HOME REMEDIES

1) SOAKED RAISINS AND DATES -soak 5-6 raisins or 2 dates overnight and eat in morning =helps build blood and energy, cools pitta

2) CORIANDER- FENNEL TEA =reduces eye and head heat

3) GHEE IN DIET -1 tsp daily in food or warm milk- nourishes brain and balances vata

4) FOOT MASSAGE AT BEDTIME -use sesame oil . grounds vata and improves sleep

5) COLD ROSE WATER EYE PADS -soak cotton pads in rose water and place on eyes for 10 mins. releieves warmth

6) APPLY SANDALWOOD PASTE OR ROSE WATER TO FOREHEAD/TEMPLES

7) COLD COMPRESS ON FOREHEAD DURING ACUTE PAIN

8) PEPPERMINT OIL MASSAGE ON TEMPLES (mild diluted)

LIFESTYLE MODIFICATIONS

DO -wake up and sleep at consistent times -protect your eyes from excessive screen/light exposure -take short breaks during mental work -walk barefoot on grass (calming for nerves) -maintain regular bowel movements -stay hydrated

AVOID -skipping meals -excessive screen time or late night work -excess heat (sun exposure, spicy food, long fasting) -prevent exertion or excessive talking/ stress -avoid heavy exercise during menstrual days

DIET TO BE FOLLOWED -warm, cooked foods (soups, dals, rice, boiled veggies) -cooling herbs- coriander, fennel, cardamom, mint -ghee, coconut, almonds , soaked dates/figs -buttermilk with cumin and coriander (good digestion+pitta balance) -milk with a few drops of ghee at bedtime -sweet fruits= apple, pear, pomegranate, watermelon

AVOID -sour, spicy, and fermented items- pickle, vinegar, curd at night -raw salads in large quantities -tea, coffee, alcohol, fried snacks -very dry foods (biscuits, crackers)- aggravates vata -citrus fruits lemon, orange during headache attack -ice cold food or drinks -excess screen exposure and loud music

YOGA AND PRANAYAM -balasana= relieves head pressure -paschimottanasana= calms nervous system -viparita karani= relaxes brain, improves circulation -shavasaa=deep relaxation -setu bandhasana= balaces hormones

PRANAYAM -Anulom vilom= balances both brain hemisphere -sheetali and sheetakari= cools body and mind -nadi sodhana= balances both vata and pitta -yoga nidra= deep restoration

Practice daily, even for 15 minutes. Avoid hot yoga or intense pranayam like kapalbhati

Migraines during menstruation are manageable and reversible through consistent Ayurvedic lifestyle and therapies -Relief usually starts within 2-4 weeks, but full stabilisation may take 3 months -The focus is not only to stop the pain but to correct the root hormonal and nervous imbalance -once balance is restored, attacks become less frequent, less intense and may stop altogether -stress management, regular sleep, mindful eating, and gentle yoga are lifelong tools

DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU

DR. MAITRI ACHARYA

Migraines, particularly those that intensify during menstruation, often link to imbalances in Vata and Pitta doshas. During the menstrual cycle, especially around ovulation and menstruation, hormonal fluctuations can provoke these imbalances. Addressing this can help manage your symptoms more effectively.

First, consider incorporating calming and cooling practices. Daily routine (dinacharya) is important. Start your morning with Abhyanga, which is a self-massage using warm sesame or almond oil. Focus on massaging the scalp, temples, and neck — areas often involved in migraine pain. This can help pacify Vata and provide some relief from the pulsating pain.

Diet can play a vital role in managing migraines. Emphasize a Pitta-pacifying diet, especially close to and during your period. Include cooling, hydrating foods like cucumber, watermelon, and cilantro. Avoid spicy, fermented, and overly salty foods, which could aggravate Pitta. Ensure your meals are regular, as skipping meals can disturb Vata.

Additionally, maintaining a healthy digestion (agni) is crucial. Sipping on triphala tea before bed might aid in keeping your agni balanced. Prepare by steeping ½ teaspoon of triphala in a cup of warm water.

Cover lighting or screen exposure, enhancing relaxation and encouraging sound sleep. Use calming herbs like Brahmi or Ashwagandha which helps reduce stress levels. These can be taken as teas or supplements, but consult a practitioner for appropriate dosing.

For periods when headaches worsen, Shirodhara — the application of warm oil on the forehead — often provides significant relief, though it’s best administered by a professional. Any persistent, severe, or escalating symptoms should be promptly evaluated by a healthcare provider to rule out conditions needing immediate attention.
