Vacha (Acorus calamus) is a very strong herb. It is not meant to be used casually in children, especially in syrup form unless prescribed by a qualified Vaidya. 🌿 Vacha (Acorus calamus) Traditionally used for: Speech delay Memory improvement Autism spectrum support Kapha-related speech block Slow cognitive response But ⚠ it is: Heating (Ushna) Sharp (Tikshna) Can irritate stomach High doses may be unsafe ❗ Very Important Safety Note Some varieties of Vacha contain beta-asarone, which in high amounts may be neurotoxic. That’s why dose must be strictly controlled in children. General Pediatric Dose (If Using Classical, Properly Processed Form) For a 7-year-old child: 🔹 Powder form (safer than random syrup): 30–60 mg once daily mixed with honey OR 🔹 If using a standardized pediatric syrup: Usually 2.5 ml once daily after food ⚠ Do NOT exceed without supervision. But this varies by brand and concentration. You must check the exact composition of the syrup. ⚠ When NOT to Give Vacha Avoid if child has: Hyperactivity with anger Gastritis Frequent nosebleeds Very thin body type High Pitta symptoms Better & Safer Support for Speech Delay Instead of strong Vacha alone, combination therapy works better. 🌿 Saraswatarishta (mild brain tonic) 2.5–5 ml with equal water after food 🌿 Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) Safer for children Improves: Speech clarity Memory Cognitive processing Dose: Pediatric syrup 2.5 ml once or twice daily MOST IMPORTANT Herbs alone do NOT correct delayed speech. Child must have: ✔ Regular speech therapy ✔ Interaction-based learning ✔ Reading aloud daily ✔ Limited screen exposure ✔ Structured communication exercises Herbs are supportive, not primary treatment.
