Can I take Gudmar leaves for my hypothyroid, pre-diabetes, and arthritis conditions? - #53903

I am a 57 year male. I am on medication for hypothyroid for more than 20 years, on medication (on and off) for uric acid for more than 20 years, pre-diabetic (HBa1c - 6.2/ 6.3) for many years, and also have high LDL (around 120), arthritic on knee joints. My fasting sugar generally remains around 120 and PP normal. But recently fasting sugar has gone up to 134, though I am yet to check PP and HBa1c. I bought raw Gudmar leaves, dried and crushed from my recent trip to south India. Given the above conditions, can I take Gudmar leaves? If so, what should be the dosage?

Yes you can take gudmar leaves powder because it is excellent for managing fasting sugar spikes gudmar dose - 1/2 tsp twice/day ~take 30 min before breakfast and dinner with warm water ⚠️ gudmar should be taken 2 hours away from your thyroid medications (which you take on empty stomach ) Apart from gudmar which you will use daily , you have to take the prescribed medications consistently for your overall conditions .

Dos - replace wheat and rice with barley or millets , barley is best for diabetes and uric acid Drink warm water all day A 30 min evening walk is essential to manage fasting sugar spikes gudmar Use more dry ginger and turmeric in food they are naturally anti inflammatory for your knee Donts - avoid curd / yogurt switch to diluted buttermilk with cumin Avoid spinach , cauliflower , mushrooms , heavy pulses Avoid day time sleep Avoid salt and refined sugar Important - check your thyroid , monitor your blood sugar weekly if it drops reduce dose of gudmar Long term uric acid can affect kidney , get done your KFT

Yes definitely Gudmar is highly effective for managing blood sugar as it suppresses the taste of sugar and slows glucose absorption. However, you have multiple co-morbidities like hypothyroidism and arthritis, it should be part of a balanced formulation rather than a standalone treatment like gudmar 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇 1) gudmar churna - 1/2 teaspoon 15 minutes before lunch and dinner 2) Nisakatakadi kashayam- 15 ml with 45 ml lukewarm water 30 minute before breakfast and dinner 3) chandraprabha vati- 1 tablet after breakfast and dinner 4) shiva gutika - 1 tablet twice daily with water 5) kottamchukkadi thailam- apply to knees before bath 👇👇👇👇👇 Include Barley millets and old rice in your diet vegetables like bitter gourd bottle guard pointed guard drumsticks and leafy green vegetables Include moong dal in your diet 👇👇👇👇👇 Avoid redmi sea foods white sugar refined flour potatoes and excessive sweet fruit like mango Avoid curd instead of use fresh butter milk Drink warm water throughout the day 30 minute brisk walking practice Pranayam like anulom vilom daily

Yes, you can safely take the raw, crushed Gudmar leaves. Your overall clinical picture is long-standing hypothyroidism, high LDL, elevated uric acid, creeping fasting blood sugar and extremely low energy, it points to a classic Kapha-Meda metabolic block. Your body’s cellular metabolism is sluggish, causing toxins to accumulate as cholesterol, uric acid and unabsorbed glucose. Gudmar is a potent scraping herb that will not only manage your fasting sugar but also help clear the LDL cholesterol. ✓Gudmar Dosage & Preparation Dosage: 1/2 teaspoon (approx. 2-3 grams) of the dried, crushed leaves. Preparation: Boil the leaves in one glass of water until it reduces to half a glass. Strain it to make a fresh decoction (Kwath). Timing: Drink this twice daily, 30 minutes before lunch and dinner. ✓Crucial Medical Precautions The Thyroid Med Gap: Never take this herbal decoction first thing in the morning alongside your thyroid medication. Bitter herbs and tannins can severely interfere with the intestinal absorption of Levothyroxine. You must maintain at least a 2 to 3-hour gap between your thyroid pill and any herbal water. Monitor Your Sugar: Gudmar literally translates to sugar destroyer. It actively blocks sugar absorption in the intestines and stimulates the pancreas. Since you are starting a potent raw herb, you can no longer monitor your blood sugar rarely. Check your fasting and PP levels at least twice a week to ensure it doesn’t drop too low (Hypoglycemia). ✓Addressing the Low Energy & Uric Acid Your severe lack of energy is because your food is converting into metabolic waste (like uric acid and LDL) rather than pure energy. To safely support your Gudmar protocol: Amrutadi Guggulu Dosage: 2 tablets twice daily. Time: 30 minutes after meals with warm water. Action: This classical formulation specifically targets high uric acid, reduces your mild arthritic knee discomfort, and clears metabolic blockages, naturally restoring your energy levels. Thank you so much, Dr. Singh. I have a few questions: 1) Since it is difficult to make the gudmar concoction during lunch hours in weekdays, as I am an office goer, can I take it only before dinner? Or else, is it ok if, for the pre-lunch dose, I take raw crushed leaves dry and for the pre-dinner dose it take the concoction? 2) Since I am not of diabetes medication, is there still a chance of hypoglycaemia? 3) Is it safe to take Amrutadi Guggulu given the medicines that I am already taking? 4) I am taking some homeopathy medicines for my various ailments. Is it safe to have Gudmar and Amrutadi Guggulu along with homeopathy?

Yes, you can safely use the raw, crushed Gudmar leaves you purchased. Gudmar (Gymnema sylvestre) is known as the “sugar destroyer” and is effective for “scraping” excess sugar and cholesterol from the system. Gudmar Dosage & Preparation Dosage: Use 1/2 teaspoon (approximately 2–3 grams) of the dried, crushed leaves. Preparation: Boil the leaves in one glass of water until the liquid reduces to half a glass. Strain it to create a fresh decoction (Kwath). Timing: Drink this twice daily, 30 minutes before your lunch and dinner. Lifestyle Tip Since your energy is poor, ensure you are drinking plenty of warm water throughout the day. This helps the Gudmar and other supplements flush out the uric acid and metabolic waste more efficiently.

Gudmar (Gymnema) is useful for blood sugar control, but in your case (hypothyroid + prediabetes + uric acid + medications), it should be used carefully and in a controlled dose. Yes, you can take Gudmar, but: Do not take it on empty stomach with other medicines Do not take high dose, as it can lower sugar unpredictably Start low and observe: Gudmar leaf powder – ¼ teaspoon once daily after lunch After 1–2 weeks, if well tolerated, you can increase to ¼ teaspoon twice daily after food. Monitor: Check fasting and PP sugar regularly Watch for symptoms like weakness, sweating (low sugar) Important: Continue your thyroid medicine as it is Do not mix too many herbs together at once For overall support: Keep dinner light Daily walking + joint-friendly exercises Reduce sugar and refined carbs At home: Fenugreek seeds (soaked) in morning can also help sugar control (small quantity) Gudmar will help mainly for sugar, but for joints and metabolism, broader management is needed. Regular monitoring is key in your case. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)

Yes,you can take in moderate dosage ½ teaspoon twice daily (approx. 2–3 grams/day total Take with: Lukewarm water Avoid taking on empty stomach initially. Take your thyroid tablet exactly as prescribed in the morning empty stomach. Keep Gudmar at least 3–4 hours away from thyroid medicine. Since you monitor rarely, please increase monitoring when starting
