I have two active abscesses in my lower gums (I already have advanced periodontal disease with severe bone loss (and only 12 teeth remain, two more condemned to go when I get the infection down). I am being treated with homeopathy for the infection but would like to help myselfwith the correct diet. Infection has lasted ten days and I have become very 'wired' episodes of extreme nervousness, feeling ungrounded.

How would you describe the pain or discomfort from the abscesses?:

How is your overall digestion and appetite during this time?:

- Slightly reduced appetite

How would you rate your energy levels throughout the day?:

- Moderate — some fatigue

How often do you experience episodes of nervousness or feeling ungrounded?:

- Occasionally

Have you made any recent changes to your diet or lifestyle?:

- Yes, minor changes

Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.

I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.

Your gum abscesses and advanced periodontal disease suggest an imbalance in Pitta dosha, which often manifests as inflammation and infection. The presence of severe bone loss also indicates a potential Vata dosha imbalance, contributing to deterioration and dryness in the tissues. The nervousness and feeling of being ungrounded are classic signs of aggravated Vata, which can lead to anxiety and restlessness.

In Ayurveda, these symptoms are interconnected, reflecting a systemic imbalance. The infection and inflammation from the abscesses can increase Pitta, while the chronic nature of your periodontal disease and bone loss may have weakened your body’s tissues, a sign of Vata disturbance. Furthermore, the nervousness and ungrounded feeling indicate that Vata is not being properly managed, possibly exacerbated by stress or dietary factors.

To give doctors a precise and effective treatment plan, your answers to the questions below are essential. Without this information, the recommendations will be more general and less accurate.

Please answer each question as clearly as possible.

1. How long have you had periodontal disease? This helps identify the chronicity and dosha involvement. 2. How would you describe the pain or discomfort from the abscesses? (Mild, Moderate, Severe, Very severe) This indicates the intensity of Pitta involvement. 3. Have you noticed any specific foods that worsen your gum condition? (Sugary, Acidic, Hard, None) This can reveal dietary triggers for Pitta or Vata imbalance. 4. How is your overall digestion and appetite during this time? (Good, Slightly reduced, Poor, Unchanged) This helps assess Agni (digestive fire) and Vata influence. 5. How would you rate your energy levels throughout the day? (High, Moderate, Low, Very low) This reflects the overall vitality and possible Vata imbalance. 6. How often do you experience episodes of nervousness or feeling ungrounded? (Rarely, Occasionally, Frequently, Constantly) This helps gauge the severity of Vata disturbance. 7. Have you made any recent changes to your diet or lifestyle? (Significant, Minor, None, Not sure) This can identify potential triggers or changes affecting your dosha balance.

Namaste, Aapke symptoms dekhkar lagta hai ki gum infection ke saath long-standing periodontal disease aur nervousness dono involve hain. Gum abscesses ke liye diet aur lifestyle kaafi important hote hain, especially jab homeopathy se infection control kiya ja raha ho. Aapka nervousness aur “ungrounded” feeling bhi pitta-vata imbalance aur stress se linked ho sakta hai. Diet tips: Avoid sugary foods, processed snacks, cold drinks, and very spicy items, kyunki ye infection aur inflammation ko worsen karte hain. Soft, easy-to-chew foods lein, jaise dal soup, khichdi, steamed vegetables, soft fruits (papaya, banana, apple puree). Protein intake maintain karein: moong dal, paneer, yogurt, milk, eggs (if tolerated) — infection recovery me madad karta hai. Plenty of warm water and herbal teas (like tulsi or chamomile) throughout the day, to stay hydrated and reduce inflammation. Home care: Saltwater rinse 2–3 times daily, lukewarm water me 1/2 teaspoon salt, gentle swish for 1 minute, then spit. Clove oil dabbed lightly on abscess (with cotton) can soothe pain temporarily. Avoid chewing on the side of abscesses. Ayurvedic/Herbal support for grounding and immunity: Ashwagandha Churna – 1 teaspoon at night with warm milk, helps nervousness and stabilizes vata. Guduchi Churna – 1 teaspoon with warm water once daily, supports immunity and infection management. Triphala Churna – 1 teaspoon at bedtime with warm water, maintains digestive balance, which affects immunity and gum healing. Lifestyle: Light breathing exercises or meditation for 10–15 min daily, to calm nervousness. Adequate sleep (7–8 hours) is essential for infection recovery. Avoid excessive caffeine, stimulants, and late-night screen use, as these aggravate nervousness. With this approach, you may start noticing pain relief in gums within 3–5 days and gradual reduction in nervousness in 1–2 weeks. Since you have advanced periodontal disease, follow-up with your dentist or periodontist is essential for long-term oral health. Home care and diet will support treatment, but professional dental intervention is key.
